Book excerpt: The authors have studied the 3P{sub J} ([chi]{sub e}) states of charmonium in formation by antiproton-proton annihilations in experiment E835 at the Fermilab Antiproton Source. The authors report new measurements of the mass, width, and B([chi]{sub cJ} 2!{bar p}p) x [Lambda]([chi]{sub eJ} 2!J/[psi] + anything) for the [chi]{sub c1} and [chi]{sub c2} by means of the inclusive reaction {bar p}p 2![chi]{sub cJ} 2!J/[psi] + anything 2!(ee−) + anything. Using the subsample of events where [chi]{sub cJ} 2![gamma] + J/[psi] 2![gamma] + (e+e−) is fully reconstructed, we derive B([chi]{sub cJ} 2!{bar p}p) x [Lambda]([chi]{sub cJ} 2!J/[psi] + [gamma]). They summarize the results of the E760 (updated) and E835 measurements of mass, width and B([chi]{sub cJ} 2!{bar p}p)[Lambda]([chi]{sub cJ} 2!J/[psi] + [gamma]) (J = 0,1,2) and discuss the significance of these measurements.

Book excerpt: The authors report on a study of the[sup 3]P[sub 1]([chi][sub 1]) and[sup 3]P[sub 2]([chi][sub 2]) states of charmonium formed in antiproton-proton annihilations. An energy scan through the resonances, performed with a very narrow momentum-band beam of antiprotons intersecting a hydrogen jet target, enables them to perform very precise measurements of the mass and the total width of the two resonances. From their measurement of the quantity[Gamma](R[r-arrow][anti p]p)[times] BR(R[r-arrow] J/[psi][gamma])[times] BR(J[psi][r-arrow] e[sup+]e[sup[minus]]), using known branching ratios, the authors obtain:[Gamma]([chi][sub 1][r-arrow][anti p]p)= (69[+-] 13) eV;[Gamma]([chi][sub 2][r-arrow][anti p]p)= (180[+-] 31) eV.

Book excerpt: The 90% confidence upper limits for the decay channels studied in the mass range 3525.1--3527.3 MeV for a 1P 1 resonance with a presumed width of 1.0 MeV were determined to be B(pp¯ → 1P 1) x B(1P 1 → J/psi + X) ≤ 1.8 x 10-7, B(pp¯ → 1P1) x B( 1P1 → J/psi + pi 0) ≤ 1.2 x 10-7, and B( pp¯ → 1P1) → B(1P1 → J/psigamma) ≤ 1.0 x 10-7. No evidence for a 1P1 enhancement was observed in either of the two additional reactions studied; pp¯ → J/psi + pi0pi0 → e+e- + 4gamma and pp¯ → etacgamma → (gammagamma)gamma.
