The data sample consists of 177.3 pb{sup -1} of p{bar p} collisions at {radical}s = 1.96 TeV collected by the D0 detector. The results are consistent with the predictions of the standard model.

Book excerpt: Measurements of the differential and double-differential Drell-Yan cross sections are presented using an integrated luminosity of 4.5(4.8) inverse femtobarns in the dimuon (dielectron) channel of proton-proton collision data recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC at sqrt{s} = 7 TeV. The measured inclusive cross section in the Z-peak region (60-120 GeV) is \sigma(\ell \ell) = 986.4 +/- 0.6 (stat.) +/- 5.9 (exp. syst.) +/- 21.7 (th. syst.) +/- 21.7 (lum.) pb for the combination of the dimuon and dielectron channels. Differential cross sections $d\sigma/dm$ for the dimuon, dielectron, and combined channels are measured in the mass range 15 to 1500 GeV and corrected to the full phase space. Results are also presented for the measurement of the double-differential cross section d2̂\sigma/dm d.

Book excerpt: We present cross section measurements for Z/?* + jets + X production, differential in the transverse momenta of the three leading jets. The data sample was collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron p{bar p} collider at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 1 fb−1. Leading and next-to-leading order perturbative QCD predictions are compared with the measurements, and agreement is found within the theoretical and experimental uncertainties. We also make comparisons with the predictions of four event generators. Two parton-shower-based generators show significant shape and normalization differences with respect to the data. In contrast, two generators combining tree-level matrix elements with a parton shower give a reasonable description of the shapes observed in data, but the predicted normalizations show significant differences with respect to the data, reflecting large scale uncertainties. For specific choices of scales, the normalizations for either generator can be made to agree with the measurements.

Book excerpt: This study presents a measurement of the double-differential cross section for the Drell-Yan Z/[gamma]* → l+l- and photon-induced [gamma][gamma] → l+l- processes where l is an electron or muon. The measurement is performed for invariant masses of the lepton pairs, mll, between 116 GeV and 1500 GeV using a sample of 20.3 fb-1 of pp collisions data at centre-of-mass energy of √s = 8 TeV collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC in 2012. The data are presented double differentially in invariant mass and absolute dilepton rapidity as well as in invariant mass and absolute pseudorapidity separation of the lepton pair. The single-differential cross section as a function of mll is also reported. The electron and muon channel measurements are combined and a total experimental precision of better than 1% is achieved at low mll. A comparison to next-to-next-to-leading order perturbative QCD predictions using several recent parton distribution functions and including next-to-leading order electroweak effects indicates the potential of the data to constrain parton distribution functions. In particular, a large impact of the data on the photon PDF is demonstrated.

Book excerpt: We report the measurement of differential diphoton direct production cross sections and a study of photon + 3-jet events with double parton (DP) interactions, based on data taken with the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron proton-antiproton collider. We measure single differential cross sections as a function of the diphoton mass, the transverse momentum of the diphoton system, the azimuthal angle between the photons, and the polar scattering angle of the photons. In addition, we measure double differential cross sections considering the last three kinematic variables in three diphoton mass bins. The results are compared with different perturbative QCD predictions and event generators. We have used a sample of photon + 3-jet events collected by the D0 experiment with an integrated luminosity of about 1 fb−1 to determine the fraction of events with double parton scattering (f{sub DP}) in a single p{bar p} collision at √s = 1.96 TeV. The DP fraction and effective cross section ([sigma]{sub eff}), a process-independent scale parameter related to the parton density inside the nucleon, are measured in three intervals of the second (ordered in p{sub T}) jet transverse momentum p{sub T}{sup jet2} within the range 15

Book excerpt: We have used 86 pb-1 of data collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF) to measure the cross section for production of two or more jets as a function of dijet invariant mass. The data are corrected for detector response and calorimeter resolution effects. Our results are compared with predictions from next-to-leading order Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) and a measurement performed by the DØ experiment. We see a trend, similar to the excess observed in the inclusive jet cross section at high transverse energy, but find our data to be in agreement with the QCD predictions. The CDF and DØ data are in good agreement.
