The measurements are based on the B meson decays into the two-body state ({pi}{pi}), the quasi two-body state ({rho}{rho}), and the three-body state ({pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -}{pi}{sup 0}). The results are obtained from data samples of about 230 million {Upsilon}(4S) {yields} B{bar B} decays collected between 1999 and 2004 with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC.

Book excerpt: The authors present results from an analysis of B{sup 0} {yields} {rho}{sup +}{rho}{sup -} using 316 fb{sup -1} of {Upsilon}(4S) {yields} B{bar B} decays observed with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC. They measure the B{sup 0} {yields} {rho}{sup +}{rho}{sup -} branching fraction, longitudinal polarization fraction f{sub L}, and the CP-violating parameters S{sub long} and C{sub long}: {Beta}(B{sup 0} {yields} {rho}{sup +}{rho}{sup -}) = (23.5 {+-} 2.2(stat) {+-} 4.1(syst)) x 10{sup -6}, f{sub L} = 0.977 {+-} 0.024(stat){sub -0.013}{sup +0.015}(syst), S{sub long} = -0.19 {+-} 0.21(stat){sub -0.07}{sup +0.05}(syst), C{sub long} = -0.07 {+-} 0.15(stat) {+-} 0.06(syst). Using an isospin analysis of B {yields} {rho}{rho} decays they determine the angle {alpha} of the unitarity triangle. One of the two solutions, {alpha} [74,117]{sup o} at 68% CL, is compatible with the standard model. All results presented here are preliminary.

Book excerpt: The primary objective of the BABAR Experiment is to test the Standard Model explanation of CP violation in weak decays by over-constraining the CKM Unitarity Triangle. This includes the measurement of all three angles of the triangle. Although precise measurements of the angle [beta] have been obtained using B decays to charmonium states, the remaining angles, [alpha] and [gamma], pose greater experimental challenges. In this paper, the latest measurements of modes which will constrain [alpha] and [gamma] will be presented, including B[sup 0] --> [rho][sup +][rho][sup -] for [alpha] and a measurement of sin(2[beta] + [gamma]) from the B[sup 0] --> D(*)[sup [+-]][pi][sup [-+]] system.

Book excerpt: A precise measurement of the angle [alpha] in the CKM triangle is very important for a complete test of Standard Model. A theoretically clean method to extract [alpha] is provided by B° → [rho][pi] decays. Monte Carlo simulations to obtain the BTeV reconstruction efficiency and to estimate the signal to background ratio for these decays were performed. Finally the time-dependent Dalitz plot analysis, using the isospin amplitude formalism for tre and penguin contributions, was carried out. It was shown that in one year of data taking BTeV could achieve an accuracy on [alpha] better than 5{sup o}.

Book excerpt: Using a data sample of 122 million {Upsilon}(4S) {yields} B{bar B} decays collected with BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric B factory at SLAC, we measure the time-dependent-asymmetry parameters of the longitudinally polarized component in the B{sup 0} {yields} {rho}{sup +}{rho}{sup -} decay as C{sub L} = -0.23 {+-} 0.24(stat) {+-} 0.14(syst) and S{sub L} = -0.19 {+-} 0.33(stat) {+-} 0.11(syst). The B{sup 0} {yields} {rho}{sup 0}{rho}{sup 0} decay mode is also searched for in a data sample of about 227 million B{bar B} pairs. No significant signal is observed, and an upper limit of 1.1 x 10{sup -6} (90% C.L.) on the branching fraction is set. The penguin contribution to the CKM angle {alpha} uncertainty is measured to be 11{sup o}. All results are preliminary.

Book excerpt: This book highlights two essential analyses of data collected during the LHCb experiment, based on the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. The first comprises the first observation and studies of matter-antimatter asymmetries in two three-body b-baryon decays, paving the way for more precise measurements of the relatively unknown decay properties of b-baryon decays. The second is an analysis of a charged B meson decay to three charged pions, where previously large matter-antimatter asymmetries were observed in a model-independent analysis. Here a model of the decay amplitude is constructed using the unitarity-conserving ‘K-matrix’ model for the scalar contributions, so as to gain an understanding of how the previously observed matter-antimatter asymmetries arise; further, the model’s construction yields the most precise and comprehensive study of this decay mode to date.
