Book excerpt: We have searched for the radiative leptonic tau decays[tau][yields] ee[sup+]e[sup -][nu][sub[tau]][nu][sub e] and[tau][yields][mu]e[sup+]e[sup -][nu][sub[tau]][nu][sub[mu]] using 3.60 fb[sup -1] of data collected by the CLEO-II experiment at CESR. We present a first observation of the[tau][yields] ee[sup+]e[sup -][nu][sub[tau]][nu][sub e] process. For this channel we measure the branching fraction B([tau][yields] ee[sup+]e[sup -][nu][sub[tau]][nu][sub e])= (2.8[+-] 1.4[+-] 0.4) x 10[sup -5]. An upper limit is established for the second channel: B([tau][yields][mu]e[sup+][nu][sub[tau]][nu][sub[mu]])

Book excerpt: We present {tau}{sup -} lepton branching fraction measurements based on data from the TPC/Two-Gamma detector at PEP. Using a sample of {tau}{sup -} {yields} {nu}{sub {tau}}K{sup -}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -} events, we examine the resonance structure of the K{sup -}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -} system and obtain the first measurements of branching fractions for {tau}{sup -} {yields} {nu}{sub {tau}}K{sub 1}{sup -}(1270) and {tau}{sup -} {yields} {nu}{sub {tau}}K{sub 1}{sup -}(1400). We also describe a complete set of branching fraction measurements in which all the decays of the {tau}{sup -} lepton are separated into classes defined by the identities of the charged particles and an estimate of the number of neutrals. This is the first such global measurement with decay classes defined by the four possible charged particle species, e, {mu}, {pi}, and K.

Also measured is the tau mass, m{sub {tau}} =(1778.2 ± 1.4) MeV. Lepton universality is affirmed by the relative branching fractions ([Beta]{sub {mu}}/[Beta]{sub e} = 0.9777 ± 0.0063 ± 0.0087, [Beta]{sub h}/[Beta]{sub e} = 0.6484 ± 0.0041 ± 0.0060) and the charged-current gauge coupling-constant ratios (g{sub {mu}} = g{sub e} = 1.0026 ± 0.0055, g{sub {tau}}/g{sub {mu}} = 0.9990 ± 0.0098). A measurement of B([tau]- 2![phi][pi]-[nu][tau]) =(3.42±0.55±0.25)×10-5, a measurement of B([tau]- 2![phi]K-[nu][tau]) =(3.39±0.20±0.28)× 10-5 and an upper limit on B([tau]- 2!K-K-K+[nu][tau] [ex.[phi]]) d"2.5 × 10-6@90%CL are determined from a binned maximum likelihood fit of the [tau]- 2!K-[pi]-K+[nu][tau] and [tau]- 2!K-K-K+[nu][tau] K+K- invariant mass distributions. The branching ratio B([tau]-2!-[nu][tau])/ B([tau]-2!pi]-[nu][tau]) is measured to be (6.531±0.056±0.093)×10-2 from which.

All measurements are compatible with the current world averages whereas the uncertainties are significantly smaller by a factor of up to five. The determination of [beta]([tau]0 2![pi]-[pi]0[pi]0[pi]0[pi]0v[tau]) is the first measurement of this branching fraction. The data sample, obtained with the TPC detector facility at PEP, corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 72 pb−1 at 29 GeV center of mass energy. The measured value for this branching fraction is somewhat greater than the theoretical prediction and, taking errors into account, resolves the present difference between the inclusive and the sum of the exclusive tau− branching fractions into one charged prong. In addition, a lower limit of 8.3% (95% CL) is placed on the branching fraction B(tau− .-->. nu/sub tau/.pi.−.pi.°.pi.°).
