Book excerpt: Decays of the type B[yields] D[sup (*)][bar D](*) can be used to provide a measurement of the parameter sin2[beta] of the Unitarity Triangle that is complementary to the measurement derived from the mode B[sup 0][yields]/K[sub S][sup 0]. In this document we report a measurement of the branching fraction for the decay B[sup 0][yields] D*[sup+]D*[sup -] with the BABAR detector. With data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.7 fb[sup -1] collected at the[Upsilon](4S) resonance during 1999-2000, we have reconstructed 38 candidate signal events in the mode B[sup 0][yields] D*[sup+]D*[sup -] with an estimated background of 6.2[+-] 0.5 events. From these events, we determine the branching fraction to be[Beta](B[sup 0][yields] D*[sup+]D*[sup -])= (8.0[+-] 1.6(stat)[+-] 1.2(syst)) x 10[sup -4] (preliminary). The measured fraction of the component with odd CP parity is 0.27[+-] 0.17(stat)[+-] 0.02(syst).

The following branching fractions are also determined: B(B[sup 0] --> D*[sup -]p[bar p][pi][sup +]) = (5.61 [+-] 0.59 [+-] 0.73) x 10[sup -4], B(B[sup 0] --> [bar D]*[sup 0] p[bar p]) = (0.67 [+-] 0.21 [+-] 0.09) x 10[sup -4], and B(B[sup 0] --> [bar D][sup 0]p[bar p]) = (1.24 [+-] 0.14 [+-] 0.12) x 10[sup -4]. In each decay mode the invariant mass spectra of the charmed mesons and the baryons are compared with a pure phase-space hypothesis in order to gain insight into the B meson decay dynamics. In particular, the Dalitz plots of [bar D]*[sup 0]p versus [bar D]*[sup 0][bar p] for B[sup 0] --> [bar D]*[sup 0]p[bar p] and of [bar D][sup 0]p versus [bar D][sup 0][bar p] for B[sup 0] --> [bar D][sup 0]p[bar p] are presented. All results are preliminary.

We find the branching fraction (40.2 {+-} 3.9 {+-} 3.9) x 10{sup -6}, where the first error quoted is statistical and the second is systematic. The fitted values of the a{sub 1}(1260) parameters are m{sub a{sub 1}} = 1.22 {+-} 0.02 GeV/c{sup 2} and {Lambda}{sub a{sub 1}} = 0.423 {+-} 0.050 GeV/c{sup 2}.

With these results and the current world average for the branching fraction for the color-suppressed decay {bar B}{sup 0} {yields} D{sup (*)0}{pi}{sup 0}, the cosines of the strong phase difference {delta} between the I = 1/2 and I = 3/2 isospin amplitudes are determined to be cos{sigma} = 0.860{sub -0.006-0.028}{sup +0.007+0.029} for the {bar B} {yields} D{pi} process and cos{sigma} = 0.917{sub -0.016-0.051}{sup +0.018+0.059} for the {bar B} {yields} D*{pi} process. The results for cos{delta} suggest that final-state interactions are presented in the D{pi} system.

Using partial reconstruction of the decay [bar B][sup 0] --> D*[sup +][ell][sup -][bar [nu]][sub [ell]] they obtain a preliminary result of f[sub 00] = 0.486 [+-] 0.010(stat.) [+-] 0.009(sys.). The result does not depend on branching fractions of the [bar B][sup 0] and the D*[sup +] decay chains, on the simulated reconstruction efficiency, on the ratio of the charged and neutral B meson lifetimes, nor on assumption of isospin symmetry. This measurement is important for normalizing many B decay branching fractions, and contributes to an understanding of isospin violation in the [Upsilon](4S) system.

From the[Beta](B[sup 0][yields] D*[sub s][sup+] D*[sup -]) angular distributions, we measure the fraction of longitudinal polarization[Lambda][sub L]/[Lambda]= (51.9[+-] 5.0[+-] 2.8)%, which is consistent with the theoretical prediction, based on factorization. These results are preliminary.
