Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A measurement of GE(P)/GM(P) at squared Q values of 0.38 and 0.50 GeV(2) was performed at Bates Linear Accelerator Center using a focal plane polarimeter (FPP) to measure the recoil proton polarization following elastic scattering of polarized electrons on a hydrogen target. These are the first measurements of all three polarization components and determination of the proton's form factors via spin transfer rather than Rosenbluth separation. The ratio GE(P)/GM(P) is obtained in a nearly systematic free manner. The measured polarizations are consistent with the Plane Wave Impulse Approximation (PWIA). This is the first experiment to use the newly built BATES-FPP and that device is described in detail.

Book Measurement of Proton Electromagnetic Form Factors in the Time like Region Using Initial State Radiation at BESIII

Download or read book Measurement of Proton Electromagnetic Form Factors in the Time like Region Using Initial State Radiation at BESIII written by Medina Ablikim and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The electromagnetic process is studied with the initial-state-radiation technique using 7.5 fb-1 of data collected by the BESIII experiment at seven energy points from 3.773 to 4.600 GeV. The Born cross section and the effective form factor of the proton are measured from the production threshold to 3.0 GeV/ using the invariant-mass spectrum. The ratio of electric and magnetic form factors of the proton is determined from the analysis of the proton-helicity angular distribution.

Book Recoil Polarization Measurements of the Proton Electromagnetic Form Factor Ratio to High Momentum Transfer

Download or read book Recoil Polarization Measurements of the Proton Electromagnetic Form Factor Ratio to High Momentum Transfer written by Andrew James Ruehe Puckett and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The electromagnetic form factors of the nucleon characterize the effect of its internal structure on its response to an electromagnetic probe as studied in elastic electronnucleon scattering. These form factors are functions of the squared four-momentum transfer Q2 between the electron and the proton. The two main classes of observables of this reaction are the scattering cross section and polarization asymmetries, both of which are sensitive to the form factors in different ways. When considering large momentum transfers, double-polarization observables offer superior sensitivity to the electric form factor. This thesis reports the results of a new measurement of the ratio of the electric and magnetic form factors of the proton at high momentum transfer using the recoil polarization technique. A polarized electron beam was scattered from a liquid hydrogen target, transferring polarization to the recoiling protons. These protons were detected in a magnetic spectrometer which was used to reconstruct their kinematics, including their scattering angles and momenta, and the position of the interaction vertex. A proton polarimeter measured the polarization of the recoiling protons by measuring the azimuthal asymmetry in the angular distribution of protons scattered in CH2 analyzers. The scattered electron was detected in a large-acceptance electromagnetic calorimeter in order to suppress inelastic backgrounds. The measured ratio of the transverse and longitudinal polarization components of the scattered proton is directly proportional to the ratio of form factors GE/Gpm. The measurements reported in this thesis took place at Q2 =5.2, 6.7, and 8.5 GeV 2, and represent the most accurate measurements of G' in this Q2 region to date.

Book Measurement of the Proton Form Factors Ratio GE GM to Q2

Download or read book Measurement of the Proton Form Factors Ratio GE GM to Q2 written by and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this thesis, we present the results of the experiment E99-007, which measured the ratio of the electric to magnetic form factors of the proton to the four momentum transfer square Q2 = 5.6 GeV2, by recoil polarimetry. Data were taken in 2000 at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility in Virginia, USA. A 4.6 GeV polarized electron beam was scattered off a cryogenic hydrogen target. The polarization of the recoil proton was measured in the Focal Plane Polarimeter, located after one of the two High Resolution Spectrometers in the hall. The ratio of the transverse to longitudinal components of the recoil proton polarization is proportional to the ratio of the form factors. Elastic events were selected by detecting the scattered electron in a large acceptance lead-glass calorimeter. The main result of this experiment is the linear decrease of the form factor ratio with increasing Q2, corresponding to different spatial distributions of the electric charge and the magnetization. Numerous theoretical calculations show that relativistic effects, such as mixing of spin states due to Lorentz boosts, are important to account for the observed data in this critical intermediate kinematic region.
