Book Measurement of the Polarization Observables Is and Ic for gamma rho rho pi pi Using the CLAS Spectrometer

Download or read book Measurement of the Polarization Observables Is and Ic for gamma rho rho pi pi Using the CLAS Spectrometer written by Charles Hanretty and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ABSTRACT: Presented in this work are the first ever measurements of the polarization observable Is for a final state with two pions and the first ever measurements of Ic for a final state containing charged pions (let alone the first measurements of both observables for the specialized case of [gamma][rho] -> [rho] [pi]+[pi]- reactions). The presented measurements were made using the high-statistics data available in the CLAS g8b data set. This data were taken at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (JLab) from July 20th to September 1st of 2005 using linearly polarized photons, an unpolarized liquid hydrogen (LH2 target), and the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS). The highly-polarized photons were produced via bremsstrahlung using an unpolarized electron beam provided by the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility (CEBAF) accelerator and a well-oriented diamond radiator. These polarized photons were produced at five different coherent edge energies: 1.3 GeV, 1.5 GeV, 1.7 GeV, 1.9 GeV, and 2.1 GeV. Considering the 200 MeV-wide window of highly polarized photons whose upper limit is the coherent edge energy, and the five different coherent edge energies used, highly polarized photons were produced covering an total energy range of 1 GeV. These data along with the utilized analysis tools have lead to clean, continuous, low-error measurements of Is and Ic which will aide the hadronic physics community in its search for the complete description of one of the most fundamental systems in nature, the baryon.

Book First Measurement of the Polarization Observable E in the vec P vec Gamma Pi n Reaction Up to 2 25 GeV

Download or read book First Measurement of the Polarization Observable E in the vec P vec Gamma Pi n Reaction Up to 2 25 GeV written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 53 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First results from the longitudinally polarized frozen-spin target (FROST) program are reported. The double-polarization observable E, for the reaction y2!2![pi]+n, has been measured using a circularly polarized tagged-photon beam, with energies from 0.35 to 2.37 GeV. The final-state pions were detected with the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer in Hall B at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. These polarization data agree fairly well with previous partial-wave analyses at low photon energies. Over much of the covered energy range, however, significant deviations are observed, particularly in the high-energy region where high-L multipoles contribute. The data have been included in new multipole analyses resulting in updated nucleon resonance parameters. Lastly, we report updated fits from the Bonn-Gatchina, Jülich-Bonn, and SAID groups.

Download or read book Measurement of the Polarization Parameter for the Reaction pi sup p Yields pi sup 0 n Between 1 03 and 1 79 GeV c written by and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From 2nd international conference on elementary particles; Aixen- Provence, France (6 Sep 1973). Measurements of the polarization parameter for the reaction pi /sup -/p yields pi /sup o/n were made at the five momenta 1.03, 1.245, 1.44, 1.5 and 1.79 GeV/c. A polarized target was used, with polarizations achieved ranging from 48 to 57%. Salient features of the experiment were the use of neutron counters for time-of-flight measurements as well as angular information and the use of optical spark chambers, seven to eight radiation lengths thick, for the detection of the gamma rays from the decay of the pi /sup o/. The center-ofmass angular range covered by the 20 neutron counters was typically --.78

Download or read book Polarization Observables From The Photoproduction Of Omega Mesons Using Linearly Polarized Photons written by and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 47 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We report on the extraction of Polarization Observables Spin Density Matrix Elements (SDMEs), and Beam Asymmetry Sigma for omega meson photoproduction using a beam of linearly polarized photons in the photon energy region of Egamma = 1.3 to 1.7 GeV, by means of the angular distributions of the daughter pions from omega decay. These preliminary results are from the g8b dataset, which were collected with the CLAS detector in Hall B of Jefferson Lab.

Book Polarization Observables for Two Pion Production Off the Nucleon

Download or read book Polarization Observables for Two Pion Production Off the Nucleon written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We develop polarization observables for the processes [gamma]N → [pi][pi]N and [pi]N → [pi][pi]N, using both a helicity and hybrid helicity-transversity basis. Such observables are crucial if processes that produce final states consisting of a spin-1/2 baryon and two pseudoscalar mesons are to be fully exploited for baryon spectroscopy. We derive relationships among the observables, as well as inequalities that they must satisfy. We also discuss the observables that must be measured in ''complete'' experiments, and briefly examine the prospects for measurement of some of these observables in the near future.

Book Measurement of Proton Polarization in the D gamma P n Reaction

Download or read book Measurement of Proton Polarization in the D gamma P n Reaction written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A proposal was approved by CEBAF PAC7 to measure angular distributions of the proton polarization for the d([gamma], p)n reaction in the GeV region. This proposed measurement will test the validity of extensions of conventional nuclear-physics theories to the higher energy regime. The results of the experiment will further constrain the evidence from SLAC experiments NE8 and NE17 that asymptotic scaling was observed above a photon energy of 1.3 GeV. Photoproton polarization measurements at lower energy indicate that the magnitude of the polarization increases with energy. This is consistent with the observation that polarizations are large in high-energy processes, e.g. A{sub nn} in pp 2!pp scattering or A{sub y} in pp 2![pi]°X. However, the polarizations in hadron-hadron scattering are believed to arise from Landshoff mechanisms. The higher energy photoproton experiment will permit the first measurements of polarization for a reaction, [gamma]d 2!pn, where there are no Landshoff terms. The experiment would make use of a polarimeter installed in either the High Resolution Spectrometer in Hall A or the Short Orbit Spectrometer in Hall C at CEBAF.
