Book Measurement of Neutral B Decay Branching Fractions to K sub S sup 0 pi sup pi sup Final States

Download or read book Measurement of Neutral B Decay Branching Fractions to K sub S sup 0 pi sup pi sup Final States written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The branching fractions for B[sup 0] --> K[sup 0][pi][sup +][pi][sup -], B[sup 0] --> K*[sup +][pi][sup -] and B[sup 0] --> D[sup -]( --> K[sub s][sup 0][pi][sup -])[pi][sup +] decaying to a K[sub s][sup 0][pi][sup +][pi][sup -] state have been measured and agree with previous measurements. The direct CP violating parameter A[sub K*[pi]] was measured for the decay B[sup 0] --> K*[sup +][pi][sup -] and is in agreement with the CLEO measurement, with no evidence of CP violation with the statistics used. Using larger datasets, one can extract amplitudes and relative phases of the resonant contributions to the Dalitz plot, with the possibility to observe new B-meson decays.

This book was released on 2005 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors analyze the decay B{sup 0} {yields} K{sub S}{sup 0}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -} using a sample of 232 million {Upsilon}(4S) {yields} B{bar B} decays collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric-energy B factory. A maximum likelihood fit finds the following branching fractions: {Beta}(B{sup 0} {yields} K{sup 0}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -}) = (43.0 {+-} 2.3 {+-} 2.3) x 10{sup -6}, {Beta}(B{sup 0} {yields} f{sub 0}({yields} {pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -})K{sup 0}) = (5.5 {+-} 0.7 {+-} 0.5 {+-} 0.3) x 10{sup -6} and {Beta}(B{sup 0} {yields} K*{sup +}{pi}{sup -}) = (11.0 {+-} 1.5 {+-} 0.5 {+-} 0.5) x 10{sup -6}. For these results, the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third (if present) is due to the effect of interference from other resonances. They also measure the CP-violating charge asymmetry in the decay B{sup 0} {yields} K*{sup +}{pi}{sup -}, {Alpha}{sub K*{pi}} = -0.11 {+-} 0.14 {+-} 0.05.

This book was released on 2003 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors present model-independent measurements of the branching fractions[Beta](B[sup 0][yields] D*[sub s][sup+] D*[sup -]) and[Beta](D[sub s][sup+][yields][phi][pi][sup+]) based on 19.3 fb[sup -1] of data collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e[sup+]e[sup -] B Factory. Neutral B-meson decays to the D*[sub s][sup+]D*[sup -] final state are selected with a partial reconstruction of the D*[sub s][sup+]; that is, only the D*[sup -] and the soft photon from the decay D*[sub s][sup+][yields] D[sub s][sup+][gamma] are reconstructed. The branching fraction[Beta](B[sup 0][yields] D*[sub s][sup+] D*[sup -]) is extracted from these event yields, while[Beta](D[sub s][sup+][yields][phi][pi][sup+]) is determined by combining this result with a previous measurement of the product[Beta](B[sup 0][yields] D*[sub s][sup+] D*[sup -]) x[Beta](D[sub s][sup+][yields][phi][pi][sup+]) with partial reconstruction of the D*[sup -]. They obtain the following preliminary results:[Beta](B[sup 0][yields] D*[sub s][sup+] D*[sup -])= (1.50[+-] 0.16[+-] 0.12)%, [Beta](D[sub s][sup+][yields][phi][pi][sup+])= (4.7[+-] 0.6[+-] 0.8)% where the first error is statistical, and the second systematic.

This book was released on 2006 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using 65 million {Upsilon}(4S) {yields} B{bar B} events collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e{sup +}e{sup -} storage ring at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, they measure the color-favored branching fractions {Beta}({bar B}{sup 0} {yields} D{sup +}{pi}{sup -}) = (2.63 {+-} 0.05 {+-} 0.22) x 10{sup -3}, {Beta}({bar B}{sup 0} {yields} D*{sup +}{pi}{sup -}) = (2.79 {+-} 0.08 {+-} 0.18) x 10{sup -3}, {Beta}(B{sup -} {yields} D{sup 0}{pi}{sup -}) = (4.90 {+-} 0.07 {+-} 0.23) x 10{sup -3} and {Beta}(B{sup -} {yields} D*{sup 0} {pi}{sup -}) = (5.52 {+-} 0.17 {+-} 0.43) x 10{sup -3}, where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic. With these results and the current world average for the branching fraction for the color-suppressed decay {bar B}{sup 0} {yields} D{sup (*)0}{pi}{sup 0}, the cosines of the strong phase difference {delta} between the I = 1/2 and I = 3/2 isospin amplitudes are determined to be cos{sigma} = 0.860{sub -0.006-0.028}{sup +0.007+0.029} for the {bar B} {yields} D{pi} process and cos{sigma} = 0.917{sub -0.016-0.051}{sup +0.018+0.059} for the {bar B} {yields} D*{pi} process. The results for cos{delta} suggest that final-state interactions are presented in the D{pi} system.

Results are based on a sample of 86 million B[bar B] pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC e[sup +]e[sup -] B Factory. We measure the branching fractions [Beta](B[sup +] [yields] [eta][sub c]K[sup +]) = (1.34 [+-] 0.09 [+-] 0.13 [+-] 0.41) x 10[sup -3] and [Beta](B[sup 0] [yields] [eta][sub c]K[sup 0]) = (1.18 [+-] 0.16 [+-] 0.13 [+-] 0.37) x 10[sup -3], where the first error is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third reflects the [eta][sub c] branching fraction uncertainty. This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The B[sup 0] meson decay modes B[sup 0] --> D*[sup -]p[bar p][pi][sup +], D[sup -]p[bar p][sup +], [bar D]*[sup 0]p[bar p], and B[sup 0] --> [bar D][sup 0]p[bar p] are studied in a sample of 124 x 10[sup 6] B[bar B] pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II collider. The decay of B[sup 0] --> D[sup -]p[bar p][pi][sup +] is observed for the first time, with a measured branching fraction B(B[sup 0] --> D[sup -]p[bar p][pi][sup +]) = (3.80 [+-] 0.35 [+-] 0.46) x 10[sup -4]. The following branching fractions are also determined: B(B[sup 0] --> D*[sup -]p[bar p][pi][sup +]) = (5.61 [+-] 0.59 [+-] 0.73) x 10[sup -4], B(B[sup 0] --> [bar D]*[sup 0] p[bar p]) = (0.67 [+-] 0.21 [+-] 0.09) x 10[sup -4], and B(B[sup 0] --> [bar D][sup 0]p[bar p]) = (1.24 [+-] 0.14 [+-] 0.12) x 10[sup -4]. In each decay mode the invariant mass spectra of the charmed mesons and the baryons are compared with a pure phase-space hypothesis in order to gain insight into the B meson decay dynamics. In particular, the Dalitz plots of [bar D]*[sup 0]p versus [bar D]*[sup 0][bar p] for B[sup 0] --> [bar D]*[sup 0]p[bar p] and of [bar D][sup 0]p versus [bar D][sup 0][bar p] for B[sup 0] --> [bar D][sup 0]p[bar p] are presented. All results are preliminary.

These results improve the previous existing measurements from BABAR. All results presented in this document are preliminary.

Book Measurement of the Branching Fraction And Search for Direct CP Violation in the B J Psi Pi Decay Mode at BaBar

Download or read book Measurement of the Branching Fraction And Search for Direct CP Violation in the B J Psi Pi Decay Mode at BaBar written by Francesco Fobozzi and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 139 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The phenomenon of CP-violation in weak interactions, discovered in 1964 in decays of neutral kaons, receives a simple and elegant explanation in the Standard Model with three generations of quarks. Indeed, in this model the common source of CP-asymmetry phenomena is represented by a simple complex phase in the unitary matrix (the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix) describing the charged weak couplings of the quarks. This simple scheme has never received an accurate validation, because the phenomenological parameters determined from measurements of CP-violation in kaons decays are related to the fundamental parameters of the theory in a complex way, sensitive to large theoretical uncertainties. On the contrary, decays of neutral B mesons like B{sup 0} {yields} J/{psi} K{sub S}{sup 0} represent a unique laboratory to test the predictions of the theory because they are expected to show significant CP-violation effects, the magnitude of which is cleanly related to the Standard Model parameters. Thus experimental facilities have been built with the purpose of performing extensive studies of B decays. The BABAR experiment is operating at one of these facilities, at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. It is collecting data at the PEP-II asymmetric e{sup +}e{sup -} collider (E{sub e{sup -}} = 9.0 GeV; E{sub e{sup +}} = 3.1 GeV), a high-luminosity accelerator machine (L = 3 x 10{sup 33} cm{sup -2}s{sup -1}). The center-of-mass energy (10.58 GeV) of the e{sup +}e{sup -} system at PEP-II allows resonant production of the {Upsilon}(4S), a b{bar b} bound state, which decays almost exclusively in a B{sup 0}{bar B}{sup 0} or a B{sup +}B{sup -} pair. A high-acceptance detector, projected and built by a wide international collaboration, detects and characterizes the decay products of the B mesons. From the analysis of the data collected during the first two years of operation, the BABAR collaboration has established CP-violation in decays of neutral B mesons at the 4.1{sigma} level. Besides the primary goal of CP-violation studies, the high luminosity of PEP-II, coupled with the high acceptance of the BABAR detector, allows competitive studies of the properties of a wide set of B decay modes. In particular, measurements of non-leptonic decays are extremely useful to understand the dynamics of the non-perturbative strong interactions involved in these processes. In this thesis a study of the non-leptonic decay mode B{sup {+-}} {yields} J/{psi}{pi}{sup {+-}} is presented.

Book excerpt: We present measurements of branching fractions and CP-violating asymmetries for neutral B meson decays to two-body final states of charged pions and kaons. The results are obtained from a data sample of about 88 million[Upsilon](4S)[yields] B[bar B] decays collected between 1999 and 2002 with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC. From a time-independent fit we measure the charge-averaged branching fractions[Beta](B[sup 0][yields][pi][sup+][pi][sup -])= (4.7[+-] 0.6[+-] 0.2) x 10[sup -6] and[Beta](B[sup 0][yields] K[sup+][pi][sup -])= (17.9[+-] 0.9[+-] 0.7) x 10[sup -6], where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic; the 90% confidence level upper limit[Beta](B[sup 0][yields] K[sup+]K[sup -])
