Book Asymmetry Measurements in P p Scattering with Polarized Beams and Targets Up to 12 GeV

Download or read book Asymmetry Measurements in P p Scattering with Polarized Beams and Targets Up to 12 GeV written by and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The processes of proton--proton scattering for various spin directions was investigated in the beam momentum range of 1 to 12 GeV/c. A striking energy dependence was observed at p/sub lab/ = 1 to 4 GeV/c, especially in .delta. sigma/sub L/, the total cross section difference in the longitudinal spin states. The rapid energy dependence has been interpreted as evidence for the formation of diproton resonances. Various pp scattering parameters were measured at 6 GeV/c, including 3-spin parameters, which are sufficient to determine pp elastic scattering amplitudes in a model independent way at 0.2

Book A Proposal to Measure Polarization in Pp Pi P and Pi P Elastic Scattering at 50 100 and 150 GeV c at the National Accelerator Laboratory

Download or read book A Proposal to Measure Polarization in Pp Pi P and Pi P Elastic Scattering at 50 100 and 150 GeV c at the National Accelerator Laboratory written by and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors propose to measure the polarization parameter in pp, [pi]−p, and [pi]p scattering at incident momenta of 50, 100, and 150 GeV/c over the range 0.15 d"--T d"1.5 (GeV/c)2. The apparatus consists of a polarized proton target, two spectrometer arms which determine the angles and momenta of both outgoing particles, and an on-line computer. The detectors are designed to operate at incident beam rates of up to 108 beam particles/pulse. They anticipate an error in the polarization parameter P of .005 d"[Delta]P d".01 over the range .15 d"-t d".8 (GeV/c)2 in 100 shifts of data taking and background studies.
