Book Input Design for Identification of Aircraft Stability and Control Derivatives

Download or read book Input Design for Identification of Aircraft Stability and Control Derivatives written by Narendra K. Gupta and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An approach for designing inputs to identify stability and control derivatives from flight test data is presented. This approach is based on finding inputs which provide the maximum possible accuracy of derivative estimates. Two techniques of input specification are implemented for this objective - a time domain technique and a frequency domain technique. The time domain technique gives the control input time history and can be used for any allowable duration of test maneuver, including those where data lengths can only be of short duration. The frequency domain technique specifies the input frequency spectrum, and is best applied for tests where extended data lengths, much longer than the time constants of the modes of interest, are possible. These technqiues are used to design inputs to identify parameters in longitudinal and lateral linear models of conventional aircraft. The constraints of aircraft response limits, such as on structural loads, are realized indirectly through a total energy constraint on the input. Tests with simulated data and theoretical predictions show that the new approaches give input signals which can provide more accurate parameter estimates than can conventional inputs of the same total energy. Results obtained indicate that the approach has been brought to the point where it should be used on flight tests for further evaluation.

Book Optimal Seismic Deconvolution

Download or read book Optimal Seismic Deconvolution written by Jerry M. Mendel and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-03 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Optimal Seismic Deconvolution: An Estimation-Based Approach presents an approach to the problem of seismic deconvolution. It is meant for two different audiences: practitioners of recursive estimation theory and geophysical signal processors. The book opens with a chapter on elements of minimum-variance estimation that are essential for all later developments. Included is a derivation of the Kaiman filter and discussions of prediction and smoothing. Separate chapters follow on minimum-variance deconvolution; maximum-likelihood and maximum a posteriori estimation methods; the philosophy of maximum-likelihood deconvolution (MLD); and two detection procedures for determining the location parameters in the input sequence product model. Subsequent chapters deal with the problem of estimating the parameters of the source wavelet when everything else is assumed known a priori; estimation of statistical parameters when the source wavelet is known a priori; and a different block component method for simultaneously estimating all wavelet and statistical parameters, detecting input signal occurrence times, and deconvolving a seismic signal. The final chapter shows how to incorporate the simplest of all models—the normal incidence model—into the maximum-likelihood deconvolution procedure.

Book Lessons in Estimation Theory for Signal Processing Communications and Control

Download or read book Lessons in Estimation Theory for Signal Processing Communications and Control written by Jerry M. Mendel and published by Pearson Education. This book was released on 1995-03-14 with total page 891 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Estimation theory is a product of need and technology. As a result, it is an integral part of many branches of science and engineering. To help readers differentiate among the rich collection of estimation methods and algorithms, this book describes in detail many of the important estimation methods and shows how they are interrelated. Written as a collection of lessons, this book introduces readers o the general field of estimation theory and includes abundant supplementary material.
