Book The Development and Study of a Mathematical Model for Non Catalytic Reactions in a Fluidized Bed Reactor

Download or read book The Development and Study of a Mathematical Model for Non Catalytic Reactions in a Fluidized Bed Reactor written by Charles Joseph Dale and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A mathematical model for the simulation of non-catalytic solid-gas reactions in a fluidized bed reactor is proposed. The performance of the model in predicting solid reactant conversions for an ore roasting process is investigated using available literature data. Model development required simplifying assumptions. The sensitivity of the model to certain of these assumptions is investigated. (Author).

Book Modelling Simulation and Optimization of Industrial Fixed Bed Catalytic Reactors

Download or read book Modelling Simulation and Optimization of Industrial Fixed Bed Catalytic Reactors written by S.S.E.H. Elnashaie and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2022-01-26 with total page 510 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last two decades impressive advances have been made toward the understanding and quantitative description of the kinetics. Despite these advances, however, the use of mathematical modelling of gas-solid catalytic reactors in industry is still limited. By consolidating progress in the understanding of catalytic processes, this book applies these fundamental advances to the development of models for design, simulation and optimization of industrial reactors. Paying particular attention to the verification of the developed models against industrial data, these models are used to optimize the performance of many practical reactor cases. Using a systems approach for the development of the different components and the resulting overall models, the book is easy to read and gives an insight into the behaviour of these complex industrial systems. In addition, the practical relevance of bifurcation, instability and chaos to industrial reactors is briefly discussed.

Book Tenth International Symposium on Chemical Reaction Engineering

Download or read book Tenth International Symposium on Chemical Reaction Engineering written by J. R. Bourne and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2017-05-04 with total page 617 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ISCRE 10 Tenth International Symposium on Chemical Reaction Engineering documents the proceedings of the symposium which brought together experts from all over the world to discuss developments in CRE. Efforts were made to cover high added value substances and to encourage papers from industry. Some success was achieved, but there remain significant gaps between Chemists and Chemical Engineers when considering high added value products as well as between researchers and practitioners of CRE. The volume begins with plenary papers covering topics such as challenges in reactor modeling; bioreactor engineering; the design of reaction systems for specialty organic chemicals. This is followed by papers presented during the eight technical sessions. Technical session A focused on the modeling and control of chemical reactions. Technical session B was devoted to studies on biotechnology. Technical session C covered mixing while Technical session D dealt with special reactor systems and chemicals. The papers in Technical session E examined reactions for emission control and recycling. Technical session F covered the safety aspects of CRE. Technical session G focused on the experiments with multiphase reactions while Technical session H dealt with catalytic reactors.

Book Reaction Engineering Principles

Download or read book Reaction Engineering Principles written by Himadri Roy Ghatak and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-04-05 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chemical reaction engineering is at the core of chemical engineering education. Unfortunately, the subject can be intimidating to students, because it requires a heavy dose of mathematics. These mathematics, unless suitably explained in the context of the physical phenomenon, can confuse rather than enlighten students. Bearing this in mind, Reaction Engineering Principles is written primarily from a student’s perspective. It is the culmination of the author’s more than twenty years of experience teaching chemical reaction engineering. The textbook begins by covering the basic building blocks of the subject—stoichiometry, kinetics, and thermodynamics—ensuring students gain a good grasp of the essential concepts before venturing into the world of reactors. The design and performance evaluation of reactors are conveniently grouped into chapters based on an increasing degree of difficulty. Accordingly, isothermal reactors—batch and ideal flow types—are addressed first, followed by non-isothermal reactor operation, non-ideal flow in reactors, and some special reactor types. For better comprehension, detailed derivations are provided for all important mathematical equations. Narrative of the physical context in which the formulae work adds to the clarity of thought. The use of mathematical formulae is elaborated upon in the form of problem solving steps followed by worked examples. Effects of parameters, changing trends, and comparisons between different situations are presented graphically. Self-practice exercises are included at the end of each chapter.

Book Modeling Simulation and Parameter Estimation of Catalytic and Non catalytic Heterogeneous Reaction Kinetics in Fluid solid Reactor Systems

Download or read book Modeling Simulation and Parameter Estimation of Catalytic and Non catalytic Heterogeneous Reaction Kinetics in Fluid solid Reactor Systems written by Justin Aubry Nellett and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: As the worldwide demand for energy continues to experience substantial increases, greater portions of this demand are expected to be fulfilled through the use of cheap and abundant fossil fuels; most notably coal. The combustion of coal releases large amounts of polluting nitric oxide and considerable efforts have been made in developing carbon sorbent technologies that remove these pollutants from coal combustion flue gases so that the use of coal as an energy source can become as environmentally friendly as it is economically practical. These technologies utilize heterogeneous reaction chemistry in decomposing the oxides of nitrogen through the use of both catalytic and non-catalytic reactions with carbon. This dissertation aims to model reactor systems that will hopefully utilize such technology. The purpose of this dissertation has two primary components: to develop and validate thorough and accurate models that link together, as effectively as possible, both theory and experiment, in describing the heterogeneous reduction behavior of nitric oxide through activated carbon sorbents; and to determine a set of kinetic parameters for use by these models that produce simulated results that closely matched those that were experimentally measured. These models are large systems of coupled ordinary differential equations in time and partial differential equations in space and time. The partial differential equations of a given system are discretized in space producing a large set of ordinary differential equations and the combined set of ordinary differential equations was integrated in time to yield the solution. The focus in this development has been on both the qualitative and quantitative aspects in the modeling of such reaction chemistry and in the utilization of such chemistry in both thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA) reactor and packed bed reactor (PBR) systems that decompose nitric oxide. Separate first and second order sensitivity systems were derived from the TGA reactor models to describe how sensitive the operation of the TGA reactor was to the kinetic parameters used to model the NO reduction chemistry. These sensitivity systems are large systems of coupled ordinary/partial differential equations that were solved in the same manner as the reactor models were solved. These separate models were used in an iterative optimization procedure that utilized a subspace trust region interior Newton- reflective method whose objective was to obtain a set of kinetic parameters that produces model simulated results that closely matched those that were experimentally measured with the TGA reactor. The set of kinetic parameters obtained from this procedure was then used with the reactor models to simulate sets of experiments conducted with the TGA and PBR systems. The results of these simulations closely matched the data of the corresponding experiments that were experimentally measured.
