Book Quantitative Techniques for Decision Making

Download or read book Quantitative Techniques for Decision Making written by Gupta M. P. and published by PHI Learning Pvt. Ltd.. This book was released on 2011-02 with total page 772 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thoroughly revised and well-received book, now in its Fourth Edition, continues to give an in-depth and incisive analysis of the various mathematical techniques required for managers in their decision-making process. The book provides a clear understanding of the practical utility of mathematical modelling and techniques, such as linear programming, integer programming, goal programming, dynamic programming, inventory models, decision theory, game theory, network analysis, queuing, simulation and Markov analysis, for solving real-life problems. The book lays emphasis on the practical applications of the techniques rather than their rigorous mathematical treatment. It also discusses probability and probability distributions--essential to tackling the everyday uncertainties of life. The book is primarily intended as a textbook for undergraduate and postgraduate students of management, postgraduate students of commerce, students of Master of Financial Control (MFC) course, and undergraduate students of industrial and production engineering. In addition, practising managers will also find the book immensely helpful in their day-to-day decision-making process. New to This Edition: A section describing the construction of activity on node (AON) networks for CPM and PERT networks has been included considering that most software designed for network analysis plot networks in this format. An appendix on 'Mathematics for Managers' which includes the topics of Matrix Algebra and Differential Calculus. New solved and unsolved problems.

Book Applications of Operations Research and Management Science for Military Decision Making

Download or read book Applications of Operations Research and Management Science for Military Decision Making written by William P. Fox and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-08-28 with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on many years of applied research, modeling and educating future decision makers, the authors have selected the critical set of mathematical modeling skills for decision analysis to include in this book. The book focuses on the model formulation and modeling building skills, as well as the technology to support decision analysis. The authors cover many of the main techniques that have been incorporated into their three-course sequence in mathematical modeling for decision making in the Department of Defense Analysis at the Naval Postgraduate School. The primary objective of this book is illustrative in nature. It begins with an introduction to mathematical modeling and a process for formally thinking about difficult problems, illustrating many scenarios and illustrative examples. The book incorporates the necessary mathematical foundations for solving these problems with military applications and related military processes to reinforce the applied nature of the mathematical modeling process.

Book Mathematical Analysis of Decision Problems in Ecology

Download or read book Mathematical Analysis of Decision Problems in Ecology written by A. Charnes and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-13 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The contents of this volume involve selection, emendation and up-dating of papers presented at the NATO Conference "Mathe matical Analysis of Decision problems in Ecology" in Istanbul, Turkey, July 9-13, 1973. It was sponsored by the System Sciences Division of NATO directed by Dr. B. Bayraktar with local arrange ments administered by Dr. Ilhami Karayalcin, professor of the Department of Industrial Engineering at the Technical University of Istanbul. It was organized by A. Charnes, University professor across the University of Texas System, and Walter R.Lynn, Di rector of the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Cornell Unjversity. The objective of the conference was to bring together a group of leading researchers from the major sciences involved in eco logical problems and to present the current state of progress in research of a mathematical nature which might assist in the solu tion of these problems. Although their presentations are not herein recorded, the key note address of Dr. John A. Logan, president, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and the presentation of Dr. Michael J. L. Kirby, then Assistant principal Secretary to the premier of Nova Scotia, Canada, greatly influenced the discussion of papers and their subsequent emendations and revisions.

Book Multicriteria Decision Making

Download or read book Multicriteria Decision Making written by Tomas Gal and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-10-30 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At a practical level, mathematical programming under multiple objectives has emerged as a powerful tool to assist in the process of searching for decisions which best satisfy a multitude of conflicting objectives, and there are a number of distinct methodologies for multicriteria decision-making problems that exist. These methodologies can be categorized in a variety of ways, such as form of model (e.g. linear, non-linear, stochastic), characteristics of the decision space (e.g. finite or infinite), or solution process (e.g. prior specification of preferences or interactive). Scientists from a variety of disciplines (mathematics, economics and psychology) have contributed to the development of the field of Multicriteria Decision Making (MCDM) (or Multicriteria Decision Analysis (MCDA), Multiattribute Decision Making (MADM), Multiobjective Decision Making (MODM), etc.) over the past 30 years, helping to establish MCDM as an important part of management science. MCDM has become a central component of studies in management science, economics and industrial engineering in many universities worldwide. Multicriteria Decision Making: Advances in MCDM Models, Algorithms, Theory and Applications aims to bring together `state-of-the-art' reviews and the most recent advances by leading experts on the fundamental theories, methodologies and applications of MCDM. This is aimed at graduate students and researchers in mathematics, economics, management and engineering, as well as at practicing management scientists who wish to better understand the principles of this new and fast developing field.
