Book Materials Reliability in Microelectronics IX Volume 563

Download or read book Materials Reliability in Microelectronics IX Volume 563 written by Cynthia A. Volkert and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1999-10-01 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The continual evolution of integrated circuit architecture places ever-increasing demands on the metal and dielectric thin films used in fabricating these circuits. Not only must these materials meet performance and manufacturability requirements, they must also be highly reliable for many years under operating conditions. A thorough understanding of the failure mechanisms and the effect of processing conditions and material properties on reliability is required to achieve this, particularly if it is to be done while minimizing cost and maximizing performance. This book brings together researchers from academia and industry to discuss fundamental mechanisms and phenomena in the reliability field. Topics include: solder and barrier-layer reliability; electromigration modeling; electromigration in interconnects; advanced measurement techniques; mechanical behavior of back-end materials and adhesion and fracture.

Book Constrained Deformation of Materials

Download or read book Constrained Deformation of Materials written by Y.-L. Shen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-08-09 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Constrained Deformation of Materials: Devices, Heterogeneous Structures and Thermo-Mechanical Modeling" is an in-depth look at the mechanical analyses and modeling of advanced small-scale structures and heterogeneous material systems. Mechanical deformations in thin films and miniaturized materials, commonly found in microelectronic devices and packages, MEMS, nanostructures and composite and multi-phase materials, are heavily influenced by the external or internal physical confinement. A continuum mechanics-based approach is used, together with discussions on micro-mechanisms, to treat the subject in a systematic manner under the unified theme. Readers will find valuable information on the proper application of thermo-mechanics in numerical modeling as well as in the interpretation and prediction of physical material behavior, along with many case studies. Additionally, particular attention is paid to practical engineering relevance. Thus real-life reliability issues are discussed in detail to serve the needs of researchers and engineers alike.

Book Liquid Crystals Materials and Devices Volume 559

Download or read book Liquid Crystals Materials and Devices Volume 559 written by Timothy J. Bunning and published by . This book was released on 1999-08-11 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Liquid crystal (LC) materials and devices play a central role in numerous established and emerging technologies. This book focuses on several large areas of research including polymer-dispersed liquid crystal technology and twisted smectic materials and applications, as well as nontraditional LC materials and applications. Various aspects of liquid crystal composite technology are featured. Of note is the work concentrating on the use of holography to imprint information into thin films of these systems. Three different approaches for employing holography with liquid crystal materials are discussed. In the ferroelectric liquid crystal arena, the intricacies of different chiral smectic-C architectures are described using detailed X-ray structural experiments on freestanding films. The differences between a molecule and a phase are explored. A number of nondisplay applications using this class of materials are presented and include topics such as adaptive optics, real-time holography and fiber-to-fiber interconnects. Also discussed are glass-forming liquid crystalline films and their ability to polarize photoluminescent emission, their utility in the fabrication of mid-wavelength infrared polarizers, and their utility in the fabrication of bistable electro-optical elements and broadband reflectors.
