Book Superplastic Forming of Titanium Structures

Download or read book Superplastic Forming of Titanium Structures written by C. H. Hamilton and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This program was directed at the establishment of superplastic forming of Ti-6Al-4V and Ti-6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo alloys as a production process. Forming studies were pursued to evaluate the process parameters of superplastic forming and to extend the process to forming aircraft structural components. A detailed study was carried out on the effect of forming parameter variations with the two titanium alloys and two configurations. It was found that the degree of forming was directly related to time at elevated temperatures. Optimum sealing techniques to eliminate atmospheric contamination of the titanium sheet material were established. Twenty-three parts were formed in six different configurations to assess the forming parameters needed to fabricate components of varying shapes and dimensions. The process was then extended to superplastic forming of Ti-6Al-4V and Ti-6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo sheet metal alloys through the fabrication of full-scale complex structural configurations. A total of 20 full-scale formed parts was produced utilizing gas pressure forming at elevated temperatures. Structural testing was accomplished on each configuration and alloy showing the compatibility of superplastic formed parts with aircraft structural integrity requirements. Substantial cost savings were shown to be possible.

Book Materials Properties Handbook

Download or read book Materials Properties Handbook written by Gerhard Welsch and published by ASM International. This book was released on 1993-12-31 with total page 1206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comprehensive datasheets on more than 60 titanium alloys More than 200 pages on metallurgy and fabrication procedures Input from more than 50 contributors from several countries Careful editorial review for accuracy and usefulness. Materials Properties Handbook: Titanium Alloys provides a data base for information on titanium and its alloys, and the selection of specific alloys for specific applications. The most comprehensive titanium data package ever assembled provides extensive information on applications, physical properties, corrosion, mechanical properties (including design allowances where available), fatigue, fracture properties, and elevated temperature properties. The appropriate specifications for each alloy are included. This international effort has provided a broad information base that has been compiled and reviewed by leading experts within the titanium industry, from several countries, encompassing numerous technology areas. Inputs have been obtained from the titanium industry, fabricators, users, government and academia. This up-to-date package covers information from almost the inception of the titanium industry, in the 1950s, to mid-1992. The information, organized by alloy, makes this exhaustive collection an easy-to-use data base at your fingertips, which generally includes all the product forms for each alloy. The 60-plus data sheets supply not only extensive graphical and tabular information on properties, but the datasheets also describe or illustrate important factors which would aid in the selection of the proper alloy or heat treatment. The datasheets are further supplemented with back-ground information on the metallurgy and fabrication characteristics of titanium alloys. An especially extensive coverage of properties, processing and metallurgy is provided in the datasheet for the workhorse of the titanium industry, Ti-6Al-4V. This compendium includes the newest alloys made public. even those still under development. In many cases, key references are included for further information on a given subject. Comprehensive datasheets provide extensive information on: Applications, Specifications, Corrosion, Mechanical Design Properties, Fatigue and Fracture

Book Advances in Processing of Lightweight Metal Alloys and Composites

Download or read book Advances in Processing of Lightweight Metal Alloys and Composites written by R. Vaira Vignesh and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-11-18 with total page 469 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers the most important aspects of lightweight metal alloys including history, physical metallurgy, overview of production technologies, alloy development, compositing, post-processing (heat treatment, surface engineering, bulk-deformation), and joining methodologies. It discusses the microstructural evolution, fractography, morphology of corroded and worn surface to enable easy understanding of the mechanism. The topics covered in this book include lightweight metallic materials, instrumental characterization of light weight metal alloys and composites, severe plastic deformation processing of aluminum alloys, solid-state welding of aluminum alloys, aluminum metal matrix composite for automotive and aircraft applications, and heat treatment of aluminum metal matrix composites. The book is highly useful for students, researchers, academicians, scientists, and engineers working on lightweight materials.
