Download or read book Masters of Fashion Vol 33 Italians written by Paul Roberts and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-09-13 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters of Fashion Vol 33 Italians THE DYNASTIES OF ITALIAN FASHION. In the 1960's scores of international Jet set dress buyers and status seekers flocked to Rome, as much for the couture designs of Valentino and Roberto Carpucci as for the search of La Dolce Vita. The jeweled island of Capri was their playground. Florence was famous for leathergoods and gold, and it didn't hurt Florentine fortunes that Pucci and Ferragamo were Jet set must haves. In the 1970's fashion heralded the arrival of ready-to-wear and the demand for practical masculine styled clothing that women could wear to work and Milan rose to power as Italy's fashion epicenter. In the last century, Italian movies, which have had a great influence on Hollywood, showed what sensual style meant to Italians through famous images of Sophia Loren and later, Monica Belluci in movies like Malena. The look was well tailored, respectable, and sensual at the same time. To these iconic images have been added the style statements of the likes of Prada, Pucci, Gucci, Versace and Valentino, who have taken Italian style in an entirely different, over-the-top direction. -Armani -Prada -Missoni -Elsa Schiaparelli -Valentino -Versace Fashion Industry Broadcast's "MASTERS OF FASHION" is an 12 title series: Masters of Fashion - Vol 31 Americans Masters of Fashion - Vol 32 Americans Masters of Fashion - Vol 33 Italians Masters of Fashion - Vol 34 Italians Masters of Fashion - Vol 35 Heels Part 1 Masters of Fashion - Vol 35 Heels Part 2 Masters of Fashion - Vol 36 Bags Masters of Fashion - Vol 37 Paris Part 1 Masters of Fashion - Vol 38 Paris Part 2 Masters of Fashion - Vol 39 Renegades Masters of Fashion - Vol 40 Lingerie Masters of Fashion - Vol 41 Music in Fashion Fashion Industry Broadcast is the number one destination on the web for the latest in fashion, style, music, creative arts, creative media, models, celebrity biographies and much more. Book The Pleasant Nights Volume 2

Download or read book The Pleasant Nights Volume 2 written by Don Beecher and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2012-10-19 with total page 673 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Renowned today for his contribution to the rise of the modern European fairy tale, Giovan Francesco Straparola (c. 1480–c. 1557) is particularly known for his dazzling anthology The Pleasant Nights. Originally published in Venice in 1550 and 1553, this collection features seventy-three folk stories, fables, jests, and pseudo-histories, including nine tales we might now designate for ‘mature readers’ and seventeen proto-fairy tales. Nearly all of these stories, including classics such as ‘Puss in Boots,’ made their first ever appearance in this collection; together, the tales comprise one of the most varied and engaging Renaissance miscellanies ever produced. Its appeal sustained it through twenty-six editions in the first sixty years. This full critical edition of The Pleasant Nights presents these stories in English for the first time in over a century. The text takes its inspiration from the celebrated Waters translation, which is entirely revised here to render it both more faithful to the original and more sparkishly idiomatic than ever before. The stories are accompanied by a rich sampling of illustrations, including originals from nineteenth-century English and French versions of the text. As a comprehensive critical and historical edition, these volumes contain far more information on the stories than can be found in any existing studies, literary histories, or Italian editions of the work. Donald Beecher provides a lengthy introduction discussing Straparola as an author, the nature of fairy tales and their passage through oral culture, and how this phenomenon provides a new reservoir of stories for literary adaptation. Moreover, the stories all feature extensive commentaries analysing not only their themes but also their fascinating provenances, drawing on thousands of analogue tales going back to ancient Sanskrit, Persian, and Arabic stories. Immensely entertaining and readable, The Pleasant Nights will appeal to anyone interested in fairy tales, ancient stories, and folk creations. Such readers will also enjoy Beecher’s academically solid and erudite commentaries, which unfold in a manner as light and amusing as the stories themselves.

Book The Cambridge Global History of Fashion Volume 2

Download or read book The Cambridge Global History of Fashion Volume 2 written by Christopher Breward and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2023-07-31 with total page 910 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume II surveys the history of fashion from the nineteenth-century to the present day. Covering the period beginning with mass industry and ending with calls for sustainability, this volume challenges the meaning of modernity and modernism from a global perspective and reflects on important scholarship that has changed our understanding of the relationship between fashion and colonialism. Empires shifted and new powers rose, with fashion marking and contending with this change. The volume concludes with a critical view of fashion and globalisation, and explores the deep connections between the fashion industry, the global economy, and the politics of production and wearing in the contemporary world.

Book The Perfect Genre Drama and Painting in Renaissance Italy

Download or read book The Perfect Genre Drama and Painting in Renaissance Italy written by Kristin Phillips-Court and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-12-05 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Proposing an original and important re-conceptualization of Italian Renaissance drama, Kristin Phillips-Court here explores how the intertextuality of major works of Italian dramatic literature is not only poetic but also figurative. She argues that not only did the painterly gaze, so prevalent in fifteenth- and sixteenth-century devotional art, portraiture, and visual allegory, inform humanistic theories, practices and themes, it also led prominent Italian intellectuals to write visually evocative works of dramatic literature whose topical plots and structures provide only a fraction of their cultural significance. Through a combination of interpretive literary criticism, art historical analysis and cultural and intellectual historiography, Phillips-Court offers detailed readings of individual plays juxtaposed with specific developments and achievements in the realm of painting. Revealing more than historical connections between artists and poets such as Tasso and Giorgione, Mantegna and Trissino, Michelangelo and Caro, or Bruno and Caravaggio, the author locates the history of Renaissance art and drama securely within the history of ideas. She provides us with a story about the emergence and eventual disintegration of Italian Renaissance drama as a rigorously philosophical and empirical form. Considering rhetorical, philosophical, ethical, religious, political-ideological, and aesthetic dimensions of each of the plays she treats, Kristin Phillips-Court draws our attention to the intermedial conversation between the theater and painting in a culture famously dominated by art. Her integrated analysis of visual and dramatic works brings to light how the lines and verses of the text reveal an ongoing dialogue with visual art that was far richer and more intellectually engaged than we might reconstruct from stage diagrams and painted backdrops.
