Esta visión, auspiciada por los partidarios de la Contrarrevolución, posteriormente se ha hecho canónica al asentarse los principios proclamados por los revolucionarios franceses. Con la perspectiva de esta visión sesgada, los escritos referentes a la religión se ven como añadidos discordantes, explicándose por causas subjetivas los que se presentan como disarmonías. Frente a esta interpretación, la que el autor propone atiende a aspectos culturales, antes que a aspectos subjetivos. Rousseau es fruto de un momento de transición. Frente al XVIII como el siglo de la razón, el pueblo es eminentemente religioso. La opción de Rousseau por el sentimiento religioso es una opción epistemológica pero a su vez es una opción social, una opción por el pueblo llano, frente a la razón auspiciada por la élite. Rousseau propone una revolución moral presidida por esquemas religiosos, aunque esta religión tiene que adaptarse a los nuevos tiempos: la metafísica debe ceder ante lo terrenal, o la moral primar frente a lo teológico. La religión civil, como religión patriótica, es expresión de su deísmo en el ámbito político.

In the Seventies, he strove to bring Marxism and Christianity together, to include all humanity in a project to set all people free. What emerges from Garaudy’s project is a very modern Marxism, with its emphasis on the individual, its ecological politics, and in its insistence on religion as central to human emancipation. Although Garaudy himself became frustrated by the failure of Marxism and converted to Islam, eventually resulting in his work being discredited in the West, it is certainly possible that Garaudy’s project represents a good, perhaps even the best, starting point for Marxism in today’s world.

This miscalculation is due to Carl Schmitt himself, who never gave us a final, complete version of his political thought, or even of some of his most famous concepts. In this book, I aim to reconstruct his political thought using three key concepts: political theology, the concept of the political, and the theory of modernity. To do so, I have consulted all his published works, but also the archival documents, in particular those with ties to Spain, which had previously received little attention. This reconstruction offers readers a qualitative introduction to Schmitt’s political thought that aims to blend logical clarity with document-based evidence.
