Book Grasping at Independence

Download or read book Grasping at Independence written by Robert S. Weise and published by Univ. of Tennessee Press. This book was released on 2001 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "By closely studying the strategic blend of land ownership, subsistence agriculture, and commerce, Weise reveals how white male farmers in Floyd County attempted to achieve and preserve patriarchal authority and independence - and how this household localism laid the foundation for the region's development during the industrial era. By shifting attention from the actions of industrialists to those of local residents, he reconciles contradictory views of antebellum Appalachia and offers a new understanding of the region's history and its people."--Jacket.

Book Genealogy of the Martin Family Classic Reprint

Download or read book Genealogy of the Martin Family Classic Reprint written by Charles William Francis and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Genealogy of the Martin Family Those who are without experience, in the work of collecting genealogical data, know little of the discouragements and difficulties attendant thereupon. The author has given much time to this work during a period of nearly three years and yet the book is not as complete as could be desired. We sent letters to all of the name, or who were connected with us in the particular branch of the Martin family, throughout the country, requesting such information as they might possess relating to descendant and family history. A number remain unanswered. Some do not care to reply, while others delayed their reply until it was too late. We have endeavored to make these pages as full and correct as possible, and for this purpose old graveyards have been searched. Family records, municipal proceedings and church registers have been consulted; old family Bibles have been interviewed; at the Newbury Library, in Chicago, the following books were consulted: New Jersey Marriage Records, 1665-1800. Woodbridge and Vicinity, by Joseph W. Dalby. Descendants of the Pioneers of New Jersey, Edward Shorp. Martin Genealogy of New England, by Henry Martin. Martin Genealogy of New England, by George Caster Martin. New Jersey Archives, twenty-five volumes. In the Chicago Public Library, the following books were consulted: Martin Family, by Martin. Documents Relating to Colonial History. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
