Download or read book Cities in Global Transition written by Raymond Charles Rauscher and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-10-05 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the planning of cities in global transition, looking at Australia’s Greater Sydney as a case example. The focus is on metropolitan districts (groups of municipalities) within the Greater Sydney region. The subjects of global transition and sustainable urban planning (SUP) are introduced in Chapter 1. How Greater Sydney approaches planning of its region and its districts is then outlined in Chapter 2. In this chapter, three case study districts are selected for critiquing planning in the face of population and new development changes. The districts, beyond the City of Sydney, are: Sydney Inner West, Greater Parramatta and St George. The book further outlines a methodology to assess planning practices within each of the municipalities (twelve case study municipalities in all within the three districts). Included here are State planning principles applying to Greater Sydney, with key principals selected to apply to the case study municipalities and to each district as a unit.

Download or read book Practice and Service Learning in Occupational Therapy written by Theresa Lorenzo and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2006-07-11 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While this book is based primarily on experiences of occupational therapy practice education in South Africa, it aims to have international appeal as key principles of practice and service learning are drawn from the differing scenarios covered. Based on qualitative research, some of the book’s chapters describe issues faced by students in complex practice situations and highlight educational strategies for promoting socially responsive professional development. They show how students engage with the personal and professional challenges of working in a multicultural society and how situated learning can enhance their resourcefulness in meeting the needs of individuals, groups and communities. The book is divided into three sections: The first, on the practice education agenda, establishes the academic rationale for various forms of practice learning within an occupational therapy curriculum. The second section examines the learning opportunities offered by different practice contexts and highlights mechanisms for developing the professional identity of students. The final section, on enhancing potential, reviews mechanisms that may be used for supporting students in the field, and ends with a look at the future of practice education and how it might develop in response to social and international drivers.

He resolved to find out. In 1988, in the midst of his army career, research for this book commenced and over the years numerous sources have been consulted. Victoria Crosses on the Western Front: Second Battle of Bapaume is designed for the battlefield visitor as much as the armchair reader. A thorough account of each VC action is set within the wider strategic and tactical context. Detailed sketch maps show the area today, together with the battle-lines and movements of the combatants. It will allow visitors to stand upon the spot, or very close to, where each VC was won. Photographs of the battle sites richly illustrate the accounts. There is also a comprehensive biography for each recipient, covering every aspect of their lives warts and all: parents and siblings, education, civilian employment, military career, wife and children, death and burial/commemoration. Download or read book Boycotting Israel is Wrong written by Philip Mendes and published by NewSouth. This book was released on 2015-05-01 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first progressive book to argue that the BDS movement (boycott, divestment and sanctions) against Israel is the wrong way to broker peace in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict; rather, it argues that peace will come ony when both Israelis’ and Palestinians’ legitimate claims to statehood are recognised – by both sides. The BDS movement (boycott, divestment, sanctions) against Israel has gained traction and publicity worldwide for a decade. Yet here, Philip Mendes and Nick Dyrenfurth – two politically progressive commentators – argue that BDS is far too blunt an instrument to use in such a complex political situation. Instead, they critically analyse the key arguments for and against BDS, and propose a solution that supports Israel’s existence and Palestinian rights to a homeland, urging mutual compromise and concessions from both sides.
