Book Marriage with a Deceased Wife s Sister Prohibited by the Word of God Classic Reprint

Download or read book Marriage with a Deceased Wife s Sister Prohibited by the Word of God Classic Reprint written by William Gregg and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2019-03-19 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Marriage With a Deceased Wife's Sister Prohibited by the Word of God His sister (lev. Xviii a relative by blood. 4. His half-sister (lev. Xviii. 9, and xx. 17) a relative by blood. 5. His son's daughter (lev. Xviii. A relative by blood. 6. His daughter's daughter (lev. Xviii. A relative by blood. 7. His father's sister (lev. Xviii. 12, and xx, a relative by blood. It seems sufficiently evident that the prohibitions in Lev. 18th include probi bitions of Marriage They were so understood by the Jews, and are so understood by Christians generally. The terms used are not, in themselves, applicable merely to unlawful intercourse between persons not married to each other - they are else where used with reference to marriages. Besides, if there be here no prohibition of incestuous marriages, such marriages are nowhere else forbidden, and thus a Jew might marry his nearest relatives without being guilty of incest. Although inter course with them was punished by death, if there was no marriage, yet if the par ties were married no punishment was infiicted It need scarcely be added that the wife whom a man is forbidden to marry means widow. Two men, father and son, or nephew and uncle cannot be supposed to have been married at the same time to the same wife. It is, obviously, the widow of the father and uncle whom the son and nephew are forbidden to marry. This is a common use of the word wife in other parts of Scripture. Book The Companion Guide to the Lake District

Download or read book The Companion Guide to the Lake District written by Frank Welsh and published by Boydell & Brewer Ltd. This book was released on 1997 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comprehensive guide to the Lake District, fully revised and updated. Unimprovably good JOHN LANCHESTER, LONDON REVIEW OF BOOKS There is hardly a stone in the Lake District that Frank Welsh leaves unturned. From the particular delights of the places with which the Lake Poets are associated - Dove Cottage, Grasmere, Buttermere, Cockermouth - to the remoter parts of the Eden Valley and Furness, over the fells, beside the lakes, through history, topography, archaeology, literature, geology and even bakery, Frank Welsh is the consummate guide and companion, writing with wit, intelligence and true skill. He covers both the less visited, and, in the author's view, unappreciated, parts of the Lake District, as well as those which no visitor will want to miss.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ptolemy's Almagest is one of the most influential scientific works in history. A masterpiece of technical exposition, it was the basic textbook of astronomy for more than a thousand years, and still is the main source for our knowledge of ancient astronomy. This translation, based on the standard Greek text of Heiberg, makes the work accessible to English readers in an intelligible and reliable form. It contains numerous corrections derived from medieval Arabic translations and extensive footnotes that take account of the great progress in understanding the work made in this century, due to the discovery of Babylonian records and other researches. It is designed to stand by itself as an interpretation of the original, but it will also be useful as an aid to reading the Greek text.
