Book excerpt: Ryan and Selena Frederick were newlyweds when they landed in Switzerland to pursue Selena's dream of training horses. Neither of them knew at the time that Ryan was living out a death sentence brought on by a worsening genetic heart defect. Soon it became clear he needed major surgery that could either save his life--or result in his death on the operating table. The young couple prepared for the worst. When Ryan survived, they both realized that they still had a future together. But the near loss changed the way they saw all that would lie ahead. They would live and love fiercely, fighting for each other and for a Christ-centered marriage, every step of the way. Fierce Marriage is their story, but more than that, it is a call for married couples to put God first in their relationship, to measure everything they do and say to each other against what Christ did for them, and to see marriage not just as a relationship they should try to keep healthy but also as one worth fighting for in every situation. With the gospel as their foundation, Ryan and Selena offer hope and practical help for common struggles in marriage, including communication problems, sexual frustration, financial stress, family tension, screen-time disconnection, and unrealistic expectations.

Book Make Love Whenever Possible When Married with Children

Download or read book Make Love Whenever Possible When Married with Children written by Leslie Kaplan and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2009-09 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Make Love Whenever Possible When Married With Children" is playful and poignant with spirited vignettes like "Seduce your spouse with humor," "Be a flasher," and "Experience the post-vasectomy sexual renaissance." Leslie Mancillas and Peg Melnik teamed up to write the book based on the following prescription program for staying sane within the madness of family life: 1. Be an opportunist. Make love whenever possible. 2. Date your spouse. Don't put off dating for two decades until your kids are conveniently in college. 3. Tend to your spouse. Even adults need to be nurtured. 4. Plan for chaos. 5. Become a top-flight negotiator. Marriage is one long, unwieldy negotiation. Keep closing the deal. 6. Keep close to your spirit. Find ways to nurture yourself. The co-authors firmly believe couples are living their most challenging years when they have children under their roof. Parents inhabit a different world than do those without children, one ruled by the needs of small people. The sheer responsibility that comes with parenthood can, over time, complicate even the healthiest marriage. While the divorce rate in America is at an astonishing 62 percent, staying happily married with children is not an insurmountable challenge as long as you realize it requires a kind of vigilance. It requires perspective, insight and, most importantly, the energy to keep a strong connection with your spouse. The authors use wisdom and wit to detail valuable tips drawn from their own experiences both positive and negative. The book is broken into six chapters, with a series of vignettes approximately one to three pages in length. Some of the more visual scenes from the book include playing hooky with your spouse, renewing marriage vows at Notre Dame and absent-mindedly driving to work with a plateful of cookies flying off the roof of the car, littering the road. Mancillas and Melnik's 100-page survival guide will no doubt be a compelling read, the best-selling bible for the married-with-kids crowd.

  • Release : 2011
  • ISBN : 0642277303
  • Pages : 394 pages

Download or read book Heysen to Heysen written by Catherine Speck and published by National Library Australia. This book was released on 2011 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains two volumes of African American folk tales collected by J. Mason Brewer. The stories included in Dog Ghosts are as varied as the Texas landscape, as full of contrasts as Texas weather. Among them are tales that have their roots deeply imbedded in African, Irish, and Welsh mythology; others have parallels in pre-Columbian Mexican tradition, and a few have versions that can be traced back to Chaucer's England. All make delightful reading. The title Dog Ghosts is drawn from the unique stories of dog spirits which Dr. Brewer collected in the Red River bottoms and elsewhere in Texas. The Word on the Brazos is a delightful collection of "preacher tales" from the Brazos River bottom in Texas. J. Mason Brewer worked side by side with field hands in the Brazos bottoms; he lived in their homes, worshipped in their churches, and shared the moments of relaxation in which laughter held full sway. Many of the tales these people told were related to religion—both "good religion" and "bad religion." Some of them concerned preachers and their families, while others were stories told in pulpits. Mr. Brewer has set all of these stories down in authentic yet easily readable dialect. They will delight all who are interested in the historic culture of rural African-American Texans, as well as those who simply enjoy fine humorous stories skillfully told.

Book The Ten Commandments in the Life of the Christian

Download or read book The Ten Commandments in the Life of the Christian written by C. Matthew McMahon and published by Puritan Publications. This book was released on 2022-05-02 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the contemporary church biblical teaching revolving around the Ten Commandments is inconsistent at best. Paul’s statement, misunderstood, is often what Christians will run to, “for ye are not under the law, but under grace,” (Rom. 6:14). Christians often want to divorce themselves from God’s holiness. They frequently do not understand how holiness in life is attached to both God’s character, and God’s commandments. Today's church is very happy to take Christ as Savior, in some instances, as prophet, but not so much as King. Christ says, “If a man love me, he will keep my words.” The man who loves Jesus as he ought, what will the outcome be for him in this act of loving? “…and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him,” (John 14:23). Union and communion with Christ are set on keeping his words. The King commands his people and he expects them to obey. This is not legalism, as if one would work for their justification, but rather, it is obedience, that one would be made more like the King in holiness. Christ says, “If ye love me, keep my commandments,” (John 14:15). This work takes Christ’s Ten Commandments, the commands of King Jesus, and not only expounds their basic teachings, but also how those commands apply to the life of the Christian. First considered is the relationship between the Law and the Gospel. Then each command will be considered, in both their positive and negative aspects (i.e. do not lie, also means, tell the truth). Then three concluding chapters will cover, 1) those people who count the Law of God as a “strange thing;” 2) those people who turn away from the Law and reject it; and 3) how Christ is the “end” of the Law for all believers, and what that actually means in light of his covenant work and merit. This is a practical study of how the “law of Christ” applies to every Christian both in obedience and submission to Christ the King, and for the good of their growth in holiness.
