Book Marital Agreements

Download or read book Marital Agreements written by Linda J. Ravdin and published by . This book was released on with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "... describes and analyzes three types of agreements: premarital agreements, postmarital agreements, and domestic partnership agreements. A premarital agreement is a contract between prospective spouses, including same-sex couples, made in contemplation of marriage. A postmarital agreement is a contract executed by parties to an ongoing marriage and not incident to a divorce or marital separation. A domestic partnership agreement, sometimes known as a cohabitation agreement, is a contract executed by a couple whose domestic arrangements may not be state-sanctioned. However, the term also includes such an agreement executed incident to a civil union or registered domestic partnership. Generally, all of these agreements are used to define the property and support rights of the parties upon termination of the marriage or other relationship by death or dissolution. Some parties also opt to include financial obligations during the marriage or other relationship. This Portfolio does not cover separation agreements that settle property rights, spousal and child support obligations, and child custody matters incident to a separation or divorce"--Portfolio description.

Book The 7th Contract

  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2021-04
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 126 pages

Download or read book The 7th Contract written by Larry Losoncy and published by . This book was released on 2021-04 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is based on the fact that while married people and people engaged to be married can say what they want and what they expect of themselves and their partner, most of their expectations actually lie just below the surface of consciousness. Most of the expectations only pop up when the situation arises. They might agree that they would like to do breakfast out on Saturdays. But neither give any thought to who should get the bathroom first on a morning when they are both running late. Marital expectations arise from living, then get stored away as it were, until needed. These expectations are based on each person's convictions about what it means to be a good man, a good husband and lover, a good father, a good woman, and a good wife and lover. That is to say, the man has three expectations of himself and three of his wife. The wife has three expectations of herself and three of her husband. Each of them must come into agreement with their partner and make workable an arrangement that takes account of their six expectations. That agreement could be thought of as the 7th Contract. Anyone contemplating marriage will discover in this book the work of love. There are suggestions everywhere about falling in love and how to express and encourage these feelings. This book goes to the next step: doing the work of love. Feelings are the motivation to start the marriage. Doing the work of love is what deepens and sustains the marriage forever. This book puts forth what that needs to be, how to find and keep it going, and the good things that happen as a result. Married couples can use it endlessly. Engaged couples can use it to gauge what they are contemplating for the rest of their lives. Counselors and ministers, physicians, and all who love the couple will find it to be a reliable guide. There is truth to the saying, "Better to have loved and lost than never to have loved." But a better saying would be, "Better to have loved and then loved ever more deeply." The 7th contract describes how to do the work of love, not just express the sentiments of love.

Book The New I Do

Download or read book The New I Do written by Susan Pease Gadoua and published by Seal Press. This book was released on 2014-09-23 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If half of all cars bought in America each year broke down, there would be a national uproar. But when people suggest that maybe every single marriage doesn't look like the next and isn't meant to last until death, there's nothing but a rash of proposed laws trying to force it to do just that. In The New I Do, therapist Susan Pease Gadoua and journalist Vicki Larson take a groundbreaking look at the modern shape of marriage to help readers open their minds to marrying more consciously and creatively. Offering actual models of less-traditional marriages, including everything from a parenting marriage (intended for the sake of raising and nurturing children) to a comfort or safety marriage (where people marry for financial security or companionship), the book covers unique options for couples interested in forging their own paths. With advice and quizzes to help readers decide what works for them, The New I Do acts as a guide to thinking outside the marital box and the framework for a new debate on marriage in the 21st century.

Book Marriage Divorce Remarriage

Download or read book Marriage Divorce Remarriage written by Andrew J. Cherlin and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 1992-09-28 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With roller coaster changes in marriage and divorce rates apparently leveling off in the 1980s, Andrew Cherlin feels that the time is right for an overall assessment of marital trends. His graceful and informal book surveys and explains the latest research on marriage, divorce, and remarriage since World War II.Cherlin presents the facts about family change over the past thirty-five years and examines the reasons for the trends that emerge. He views the 1950s, when Americans were marrying and having children early and divorcing infrequently, as the aberration, and he discusses why this period was unusual. He also explores the causes and consequences of the dramatic changes since 1960--increases in divorce, remarriage, and cohabitation, decreases in fertility--that are altering the very definition of the family in our society. He concludes with a discussion of the increasing differences in the marital patterns of black and white families over the past few decades.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 2007 book analyzes how, why, and when pre-modern Europeans documented their marriages - through property deeds, marital settlements, dotal charters, church court depositions, wedding liturgies, and other indicia of marital consent. The authors consider both the function of documentation in the process of marrying and what the surviving documents say about pre-modern marriage and how people in the day understood it. Drawing on archival evidence from classical Rome, medieval France, England, Iceland, and Ireland, and Renaissance Florence, Douai, and Geneva, the volume provides a rich interdisciplinary analysis of the range of marital customs, laws, and practices in Western Christendom. The chapters include freshly translated specimen documents that bring the reader closer to the actual practice of marrying than the normative literature of pre-modern theology and canon law.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Premarital Agreements, Second Edition is an updated clearly written primer that focuses on the fundamentals involved in negotiating and drafting these agreements, explaining the most critical aspects involved in creating a premarital agreement. A premarital agreement is a contract between prospective spouses made in contemplation of marriage. Historically courts refused to enforce premarital agreements at divorce, believing that such contracts made divorce too easy. That began to change in the early 1970s until every state, by statute or case law, permitted prospective spouses to predetermine in a premarital agreement their rights to property at divorce and, in the majority of states, to fix or waive the right to support.

Book Matrimonial Property Needs and Agreements

Download or read book Matrimonial Property Needs and Agreements written by Great Britain: Law Commission and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2012-09-11 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following its 2011 consultation on marital property agreements, the Law Commission has opened a supplementary consultation on needs and non-matrimonial property, Matrimonial Property, Needs and Agreements - A Supplementary Consulatation Paper (Consultation Paper No 208). The earlier paper examined the legal status of financial agreements made by husbands, wives and civil partners, often known as 'pre-nups' and 'post-nups'. The most important question addressed in that consultation was the enforceability of such agreements. This extension to the project followed the recommendation from Sir David Norgrove's Family Justice Review Panel for a review of the law relating to financial orders. The review is looking at two specific aspects of the law relating to financial provision on divorce: (i) to what extent one spouse should be required to meet the other's financial needs, and what exactly is meant by needs; and (
