Instead of studying brand marketing in general, the garment industry, where branding is particularly prominent, is selected to be the study focus to provide a window on brand marketing in general. This research is composed of two major studies: a comparison of Hong Kong fashion brands with leading foreign brands on effectiveness in brand marketing and company studies on Giordano and Esprit, two of the leading fashion brands in Hong Kong. Questionnaire survey, interviews, and secondary data from journals and publications were used. The results of the two studies show that: 1. Hong Kong fashion brands are as effective as foreign brands in brand marketing 2. Hong Kong brand marketers are responsive to the market needs, and are able to capitalise on the resources available locally and from abroad. 3.
