This gearing, it should be mentioned, has already been fitted and run in a number of American vessels, and the results obtained have given every satisfaction. A large amount of tonnage (held back meantime owing to Government requirements) has been placed in order for geared down cargo and passenger boats, and this type of machinery promises to be greatly in demand after the war for general service, and will in future replace to some considerable extent the reciprocating class of machinery for merchant service vessels.
