Book MARINAS and Small Craft Harbors

Download or read book MARINAS and Small Craft Harbors written by Bruce O. Tobiasson and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-12-06 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: MARINAS and Small Craft Barbors defines the state-of-the-art in marina and small craft harbor planning, design, and construction. Its authors are experienced teachers and practicing professionals. Their contribution through this book will be recognized for many years to come-both herein North America and in the many countries throughout the world now developing recreational facilities. Our engineering outreach program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison has for nearly two decades affered an annual state-of-the-art conference on marina planning, design, and construction. The conference has been built on meeting educational needs of professionals practicing in this field. The authors, Bruce Tobiasson and Ron Kollmeyer, have for many years partici pated as guest faculty at these conferences. By having done so, they have sharpened their instructional skills, broadened their knowledge base about state-of-the-art practice, and developed a compassion to help others in the field. MARINAS and Small Craft Barbors is a very comprehensive and readable work and belongs in the hands of all those people responsible for planning and building waterfront facilities in the 1990s and beyond. I commend the authors for their excellent work.

Book Hydraulic Design of Marina for Pelican Cove Sarasota County Florida for P C Sarasota LTD Sarasota Florida

Download or read book Hydraulic Design of Marina for Pelican Cove Sarasota County Florida for P C Sarasota LTD Sarasota Florida written by Chiranjib Kumar Sarkar and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The report presents design of a proposed marina and inlet channel located within the Pelican Cove development in Section 28, Township 37 South, Range 18 East in Sarasota County, Florida. The marina will be connected to the Clower Creek through the proposed inlet. The Clower Creek empties into Little Sarasota Bay and is tidal. A sophisticated and accurate analysis of the flow conditions in the proposed inlet and the extent of flushing which will be achieved in the marina has been presented in the report. The study has determined that the proposed marina will be flushed by the tides in the Clower Creek, and that 82.5% flushing will be achieved in every 5 days and about 90% in 7 days and 95% in 10 days. The flow conditions will produce turbulent mixing which will be enhanced by waves produced by wind and the movement of boats. The rock rip-rap provided on the sloping banks will provide protection against scouring actions of the waves generated by wind and movement of boats, and will encourage marine growth."--p. 1.

Book Marine Biomaterials

    Book Details:
  • Author : Se-Kwon Kim
  • Publisher : CRC Press
  • Release : 2013-04-11

Download or read book Marine Biomaterials written by Se-Kwon Kim and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2013-04-11 with total page 843 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Oceans are an abundant source of diverse biomaterials with potential for an array of uses. Marine Biomaterials: Characterization, Isolation and Applications brings together the wide range of research in this important area, including the latest developments and applications, from preliminary research to clinical trials. The book is divided into four parts, with chapters written by experts from around the world. Biomaterials described come from a variety of marine sources, such as fish, algae, microorganisms, crustaceans, and mollusks. Part I covers the isolation and characterization of marine biomaterials—bioceramics, biopolymers, fatty acids, toxins and pigments, nanoparticles, and adhesive materials. It also describes problems that may be encountered in the process as well as possible solutions. Part II looks at biological activities of marine biomaterials, including polysaccharides, biotoxins, and peptides. Chapters examine health benefits of the biomaterials, such as antiviral activity, antidiabetic properties, anticoagulant and anti-allergic effects, and more. Part III discusses biomedical applications of marine biomaterials, including nanocomposites, and describes applications of various materials in tissue engineering and drug delivery. Part IV explores commercialization of marine-derived biomaterials—marine polysaccharides and marine enzymes—and examines industry perspectives and applications. This book covers the key aspects of available marine biomaterials for biological and biomedical applications, and presents techniques that can be used for future isolation of novel materials from marine sources.
