Book excerpt: A third generation printer, Margaret runs a small, but respected print shop in Strasbourg, Germany. As new Christian ideas and beliefs spring from the Lutherans and Anabaptists, she willingly prints literature for them and sees herself being pulled closer and closer to the Anabaptist faith. When Balthasar Beck, a fellow printer, comes to town in the spring of 1525, Margaret and Beck quickly become friends. Together, they learn about and discuss the new religious ideas, and in the process, they discover their love for one another. Outside the city walls, Maragaret and Balthasar meet Conrad Grebel, the fiery red-bearded Swiss Anabaptist who invites them to accept believers baptism. They also meet George Blaurock, Hans Hut, and many other influential Anabaptists. In December of 1525, the Strasbourg City Council discovers the pamphlets Maragaret has printed for Conrad Grebel. On a cold and snowy night, at a huge blaze on Clement Ziegler's farm, the authorities burn her pamphlets. In spite of this, Maraget remains determined to continue to print materials that will build up the struggling Anabaptists.
Download or read book Anarchist Women 1870 1920 written by Margaret S. Marsh and published by Philadelphia : Temple University Press. This book was released on 1981 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The anarchist-feminists and their ideology possess a significance that extends beyond anarchism and nineteenth-century popular images of it. This book examines the women who espoused anarchism and what they believed, but more importantly it seeks to understand the unique ways in which a group of women responded to the social, sexual, and economic upheavals of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The antistatist, antiauthoritarian, decentralist visions of the anarchists are an integral part of our intellectual heritage. What the women anarchists tried to do is an important part of the history of the intellectual roots of the women's movement"--Jacket.

Download or read book Guilt written by Salman Akhtar and published by Jason Aronson, Incorporated. This book was released on 2012-12-22 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this elegantly written book, eight distinguished psychoanalysts address the ubiquitous phenomenon of guilt. They describe the childhood experiences that form the bedrock of this emotion and delineate various types of guilt, including pre-oedipal guilt, oedipal guilt, survivor guilt, separation guilt, induced guilt, and so on. Noting that guilt, by itself, is neither ‘good’ nor ‘bad,’ these master clinicians highlight the adverse (e.g. self-punishment, masochism, irritability) and potentially positive (e.g. reparation, helpfulness towards others) outcomes of guilt. They critically assess previously published findings, review diverse theories, and offer illustrative material from treatment of children and adults. As a result, Guilt: Origins, Manifestations, and Management is replete with clinical pearls and highly useful tips for the management of patients driven by feelings of guilt and remorse.

Book excerpt: EKA, On Our Own, 1943-1950 EKA the multi-volume memoir is a song, Erica's song, a spiritual, sung about her life and God; how she followed her spirituality, her feelings, the waiting, worrying, then knowing the way, heart singing, through many passages in her long, long life. Erica Maria Johanna Grossgerge was born in the German capitol of Berlin on the first day of January, nineteen hundred and eleven: 1/1/11. Her life spans most of the twentieth century and she considers herself blessed to have met so many spiritual figures important to the world's well-being. As a young adult Erica was continually drawn towards the English speaking world, first by the film "Showboat", then by her employment in American and English companies. In Munich she met and fell in love with the son of an American diplomat. After becoming engaged, the couple moved to England, she to work as an au pair while he attended Cambridge, where they got married. With an offer for her husband to teach German while studying for his PhD at Stanford University, the couple moved to America in 1938. In California, Erica was introduced to Eastern mysticism and Sufi thought, finding the first true path that resonated with her spirituality, which she has developed throughout her long life. Due to her husband's failed academic life, they moved into his retired parent's house down in the small town of Summerland, near beautiful Santa Barbara. There, Erica gave birth to her two sons, Michael and Daniel, and began her life as a mother. She moved out on her own, supporting herself and her sons with bookkeeping jobs while trying to start a printing press business. Following her heart as always, she moved her family again to a farm at the School of the Natural Order in San Marcos to further pursue her spiritual path studying under the American master Vitvan. Many paths and many years later, the book EKA was written.

Download or read book A Dictionary of Members of the Dublin Book Trade 1550 1800 written by Mary Pollard and published by OUP/The Bibliographical Society of London. This book was released on 2000 with total page 730 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This dictionary attempts in nearly 2,200 entries to cover all workers in the various branches of the Dublin book trade until the Act of Union in 1800. All grades of workers from apprentice to master, and papermakers, engravers, hawkers and other peripheral traders are considered, as well as the all-important printers and booksellers. Entries naturally vary from one or two lines to one or two pages in length. The aim is to illustrate the working life of each subject by reference to contemporary sources such as records of the stationer's Guild, state papers, imprints, newspaper advertisements, customers' accounts, etc, with documentation for each statement made. Entries will thus give practical clues to dating undated books, as well as provide a basis for further research into individual traders' work and the Dublin trade as a whole. Some account of the history and organization of the Dublin Guild of St Luke (cutlers, painter-stainers, and stationers) appears as introduction.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work offers buyers, sellers, and collectors an easy-to-use, one-volume source of information for these bird and quadruped prints of John James Audubon. It contains obscure references, where the author, Bill Steiner, has surveyed the contemporary market-place. Addressing one of the more complex aspects of print collection, the text clarifies the task of distinguishing the octavio prints of the successive editions of Audubon's Birds of America (1840-1871) and Quadrupeds of North America (1849-1870). It describes the publication histories of each edition since the first, offers information about printers, engravers, and subscribers, and provides practical information on price histories, accessibility, and preservation.
