Book excerpt: There is nothing quite like that feeling you get when you see that look of recognition and enjoyment on your students' faces. Not just the strong ones, but everyone is nodding in agreement during your first explanation of the geometry of directional derivatives. If you have incorporated animated demonstrations into your teaching, you know how effective they can be in eliciting this kind of response. You know the value of giving students vivid moving images to tie to concepts. But learning to make animations generally requires extensive searching through a vast computer algebra system for the pertinent functions. Maple Animation brings together virtually all of the functions and procedures useful in creating sophisticated animations using Maple 7, 8, or 9 and it presents them in a logical, accessible way. The accompanying downloadable resources provide all of the Maple code used in the book, including the code for more than 30 ready-to-use demonstrations. From Newton's method to linear transformations, the complete animations included in this book allow you to use them straight out of the box. Careful explanations of the methods teach you how to implement your own creative ideas. Whether you are a novice or an experienced Maple user, Maple Animation provides the tools and skills to enhance your teaching and your students' enjoyment of the subject through animation.

Book Pressure and Temperature Well Testing

Download or read book Pressure and Temperature Well Testing written by Izzy M. Kutasov and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2015-10-21 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book comprises two parts: Pressure and Flow Well Testing (Part I) and Temperature Well Testing (Part II), and contains numerous authors’ developments. Due to the similarity in Darcy’s and Fourier’s laws the same differential diffusivity equation describes the transient flow of incompressible fluid in porous medium and heat conduction in solids. Therefore it is reasonable to assume that the techniques and data processing procedures of pressure well tests can be applied to temperature well tests. The book presents new methods to determine the formation of permeability and skin factors from tests conducted in simulated wells, designing interference well tests, processing constant bottom-hole pressure tests, estimation of the formation temperature and geothermal gradients from temperature surveys and logs, in-situ determination of the formation thermal conductivity and contact thermal resistance of boreholes, temperature regime of boreholes (cementing of production liners), and the recovery of thermal equilibrium in deep and superdeep wells. Processing and analysis of pressure and geothermal data are shown on numerous field examples from different regions of the world. The book is intended for students, engineers, and researchers in the field of hydrocarbon geophysics and geology, groundwater searching and exploitation, and subsurface environment examination. It will be also useful for specialists studying pressure and temperature in parametric deep and superdeep wells.

Book Essential Maple

    Book Details:
  • Author : Robert M. Corless
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2013-03-09
  • ISBN : 1475739850
  • Pages : 229 pages

Download or read book Essential Maple written by Robert M. Corless and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What's in this book This book contains an accelerated introduction to Maple, a computer alge bra language. It is intended for scientific programmers who have experience with other computer languages such as C, FORTRAN, or Pascal. If you wish a longer and more leisurely introduction to Maple, see (8, 27, 39). This book is also intended as a reference summary for people who use Maple infrequently enough so that they forget key commands. Chapter 4 is a keyword summary. This will be useful if you have forgotten the exact Maple command for what you want. This chapter is best accessed through the table of contents, since it is organized by subject matter. The mathematical prerequisites are calculus, linear algebra, and some differential equations. A course in numerical analysis will also help. Any extra mathematics needed will be developed in the book. This book was prepared using Maple V Release 3, although most of the examples will work with, at most, only slight modification in Maple V Release 2. This book does not require any particular hardware. The systems I have used in developing the book are machines running IBM DOS and WIN/OS2, Unix machines in an ASCII terminal mode, and x windows systems. There should be no adjustments necessary for readers equipped with Macintoshes or other hardware. Maple is an evolving system. New features will be described in the documentation for updates (?updates in Maple).

Book Introduction to Maple

    Book Details:
  • Author : Andre HECK
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2003-04-08
  • ISBN : 9780387002309
  • Pages : 852 pages

Download or read book Introduction to Maple written by Andre HECK and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2003-04-08 with total page 852 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a fully revised edition of the best-selling Introduction to Maple. The book presents the modern computer algebra system Maple, teaching the reader not only what can be done by Maple, but also how and why it can be done. The book also provides the necessary background for those who want the most of Maple or want to extend its built-in knowledge. Emphasis is on understanding the Maple system more than on factual knowledge of built-in possibilities. To this end, the book contains both elementary and more sophisticated examples as well as many exercises. The typical reader should have a background in mathematics at the intermediate level. Andre Heck began developing and teaching Maple courses at the University of Nijmegen in 1987. In 1989 he was appointed managing director of the CAN Expertise Center in Amsterdam. CAN, Computer Algebra in the Netherlands, stimulates and coordinates the use of computer algebra in education and research. In 1996 the CAN Expertise Center was integrated into the Faculty of Science at the University of Amsterdam, into what became the AMSTEL Institute. The institute program focuses on the innovation of computer activities in mathematics and science education on all levels of education. The author is actively involved in the research and development aimed at the integrated computer learning environment Coach for mathematics and science education at secondary school level.
