Download or read book Nanostructured Titanium Dioxide Materials written by Ali Reza Khataee and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2012 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the past decade, research and development in the area of synthesis and applications of different nanostructured titanium dioxide have become tremendous. This book briefly describes properties, production, modification and applications of nanostructured titanium dioxide focusing in particular on photocatalytic activity. The physicochemical properties of nanostructured titanium dioxide are highlighted and the links between properties and applications are emphasized. The preparation of TiO2 nanomaterials, including nanoparticles, nanorods, nanowires, nanosheets, nanofibers, and nanotubes are primarily categorized by their preparation method (sol-gel and hydrothermal processes). Examples of early applications of nanostructured titanium dioxide in dye-sensitized solar cells, hydrogen production and storage, sensors, rechargeable batteries, electrocatalysis, self-cleaning and antibacterial surfaces and photocatalytic cancer treatment are reviewed. The review of modifications of TiO2 nanomaterials is mainly focused on the research related to the modifications of the optical properties of TiO2 nanomaterials, since many applications of TiO2 nanomaterials are closely related to their optical properties. Photocatalytic removal of various pollutants using pure TiO2 nanomaterials, TiO2-based nanoclays and non-metal doped nanostructured TiO2 are also discussed.

Book Encyclopedia of Metalloproteins

Download or read book Encyclopedia of Metalloproteins written by Robert H. Kretsinger and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-05-01 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In biochemistry, a metalloprotein is a generic term for a protein that contains a metal cofactor. The metal may be an isolated ion or may be coordinated with a nonprotein organic compound, such as the porphyrin found in hemoproteins. In some cases, the metal is co-coordinated with a side chain of the protein and an inorganic nonmetallic ion. This kind of protein-metal-nonmetal structure is seen in iron-sulfur clusters Metalloproteins deals with all aspects related to the intracellular and extracellular metal-binding proteins, including their structures, properties and functions. The biological roles of metal cations and metal-binding proteins are endless. They are involved in all crucial cellular activities. Many pathological conditions are related to the problematic metal metabolism. Research in metalloprotein-related topics is therefore rapidly growing, and different aspects of metal-binding proteins progressively enter curricula at Universities and even at the High School level on occasion. However, no key resource providing basic, but comprehensible knowledge on this rapidly expanding field exists. The Encyclopedia of Metalloproteins aims to bridge this gap, and will attempt to cover various aspects of metalloprotein/metalloproteomics and will deal with the different issues related to the intracellular and extracellular metal-binding proteins, including their structures, properties and functions. The goal is to cover exhaustively all catalytically and biologically crucial metal ions and to find at least one interacting protein for other metal ions. The Encyclopedia of Metalloproteins will provide a key resource for advanced undergraduate and graduate students, researchers, instructors, and professors interested in protein science, biochemistry, cell biology, and genetics.

Book excerpt: Paints, varnishes, and lacquers are chemicals or substances that you can use to change the color, texture or shine of a surface. These materials can be applied to a wide range of surfaces, including those made of metal, wood, paper, and plastic. They can be used to paint canvas works of art, to coat beautiful things with a layer of protection, or for practical uses like polishing furniture. The most popular kind of paints are oil-based paints, which are created using pigments that, when dried, leave an oily layer on the surface. Due to their lower levels of toxicity as compared to paintings made with an oil base, acrylics have grown in popularity in recent years. Paints, varnishes, and lacquers are essential supplies for any job involving home décor. Numerous colours are available for these products to match any style. Additionally, you can choose the finish that best meets your needs because they come in a variety of finishes. These products come in a variety that makes it simple to obtain just what you need without having to purchase numerous different things. These paints, varnishes, and lacquers are not only long-lasting but also simple to use thanks to current technology. The size of the global market for paints, varnishes, and lacquers is anticipated to increase at a CAGR of 7.8%. The demand is on the rise, and technological developments in the paint business are the main drivers of this expansion. Global population growth is also driving up demand for residential and commercial real estate, which will drive up demand for paints, varnishes, and lacquers globally.
