Book Best Practice Guideline for Statistical Analyses of Fatigue Results

Download or read book Best Practice Guideline for Statistical Analyses of Fatigue Results written by Guy Parmentier and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-03-31 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive guidance for the use of sound statistical methods and for the evaluation of fatigue data of welded components and structures obtained under constant amplitude loading and used to produce S-N curves. Recommendations for analyzing fatigue data are available, although they do not deal with all the statistical treatments that may be required to utilize fatigue test results, and none of them offers specific guidelines for analyzing fatigue data obtained from tests on welded specimens. For an easy use, working sheets are provided to assist in the proper statistical assessment of experimental fatigue data concerning practical problems giving the procedure and a numerical application as illustration.

Book Chapter 1 Fundamental Concepts in the Statistical Planning Design of Fatigue Experiments

Download or read book Chapter 1 Fundamental Concepts in the Statistical Planning Design of Fatigue Experiments written by and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 31 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No manual can provide the fatigue investigator with a complete step-by-step detailed procedure which is valid for the statistical planning of experiments whatever the situation. In fact, only certain very simple fatigue test programs fit precisely into the specific formats required for wellestablished planned experiments, such as the completely randomized design (CRD) and the randomized complete block (RCB) design, [1]. Generally these simple fatigue test programs pertain to either elementary comparative tests (for example, comparing the fatigue life of Material A versus Material B), or to quality assurance tests (namely, the generation of certain fatigue data under well-defined test conditions). On the other hand, most (exploratory) research programs involve one or more (sometimes subtle) constraints peculiar to the specific situation, that is, to the given material processing, specimen preparation, test machine, environment, or whatever. Such constraints often preclude elementary statistical analysis of the resulting data and may even present difficulties to a trained statistician, particularly if he is consulted only after the tests have been conducted. But whatever the nature and the complexity of the given fatigue test situation, there are certain design of experiments fundamentals which must appear in the planning and conduct of any competent experimental program. It is the objective of this chapter of the manual to state these fundamentals (presented in italics in the following paragraph) and to illustrate their application in a few example situations. For further specific references to the design of experiments, see Refs 2, 3, and 4.

Book Statistics of Metal Fatigue in Engineering Planning and Analysis of Metal Fatigue Tests

Download or read book Statistics of Metal Fatigue in Engineering Planning and Analysis of Metal Fatigue Tests written by Stefan Einbock and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2018-09-28 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is often difficult to become familiar with the field of metal fatigue analysis. Among other reasons, statistics being an important one. Therefore this book focuses on the basics of statistics for metal fatigue analysis. It is written for engineers in the fields of simulation, testing and design who look for a quick introduction to the statistics of metal fatigue. This book enables you - to understand and apply the statistics for metal fatigue in engeneering - to evaluate metal fatigue test data (S-N curves and endurance limits) statistically using probability net and regression - to evaluate endurance limits with the stair case method or the probit method - to calculate safety factors for your components - to assess the impact of small sample sizes - to find and evaluate outliers statistically and - to compare samples with statistic tests like the t-Test. In order to ensure a quick understanding, this book focuses on the most important methods and is limited to the downright necessary mathematics. In addition, you will find helpful tips and experiences for a significant improvement of our learning efficiency. For a comprehensible arrangement of the content many illustrations are utilized, which represents the text. In addition to it, a simple, clear language is consciously used. In order to consolidate the understanding, the theory is also supplemented by extensive job relevant exercises. For easy application of the methods of metal fatigue in engeneering you will find useful Excel tools for your own analysis. These cover the basics of the important methods of this book and can be downloaded for free.
