Book The Movement Muscle Manual

Download or read book The Movement Muscle Manual written by Jason Curtis and published by . This book was released on 2020-11-30 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a must-have for fitness professionals and enthusiasts. This unique muscle manual categorizes over 80 muscles into over 40 movements with medically accurate illustrations. Too many muscle manuals concentrate on muscle locations and origins and insertions, creating guides that emphasize an endless list of technical terminology with little functionality. The Movement Muscle Manual is a compact guide that categorizes muscles by the movements they facilitate. Therefore, the reader gains a much better understanding of how muscles assist and oppose each other to create a movement. The difference between good trainers and great trainers is often an in-depth understanding of functional anatomy - a deep understanding of how the body's structures relate to movement and training. Book The Practical Guide to Range of Motion Assessment

Download or read book The Practical Guide to Range of Motion Assessment written by John J. Gerhardt and published by Amer Medical Assn. This book was released on 2002-01-01 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This companion to Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment, Fifth Edition, provides instruction on a standardized method for measuring range of motion (ROM). The Guides Fifth assumes the user is experienced in measuring range of motion. This manual provides basic to proficient guidance that will enable physicians, physical therapists, and other evaluators to obtain accurate ROM measurements using standardized guidelines, reference tables, and reporting protocols. This consistent approach promises to produce greater intra- and interevaluator reliability. To increase accuracy, trained clinicians identify anatomic landmarks and properly position or stabilize the body to use a consistent technique to apply the measurement to the joint.

Excerpt: ...its apparent simplicity (when well done). This, and the fact that it is capable of being performed with a certain grace or style, make it a very popular exercise with young men, at once the never ending attraction and the despair of the uninitiated. Briefly considered, it may be said to consist of the following parts: 1. Starting the swing, as previously described. 2. On the next forward swing, the chest is forcibly expanded and the back arched as the body passes the vertical. This position is held, with absolute rigidity, until the forward swing is almost completed. The mechanism of this is practically identical with that of the "active" hanging position, already described. 3. A very small fraction of time before the forward swing is completed, the legs are quickly raised by a flexion in the hip joints. The less the spine is flexed, the better. 4. The legs are immediately brought down and back by a forcible extension in the hip joints and spine, while the arms, kept straight and rigid, are simultaneously pressed down to the sides, in other words, extension in the shoulder joint, rotation downward, depression and adduction of the scapula take place. The muscles concerned are the hip extensors and erector spinae; the latissimus and teres major; the pectoralis major; the pectoralis minor and rhomboids; the lower trapezius; the triceps. It is on the proper timing, quickness and vigor of this complex muscular effort in relation to the recoil from the forward swing that the success of the exercise depends. If it is made a moment too soon or too late, if the extension at the hip is not complete, if the arching of the back is excessive, if the extension of the shoulder joint (the bearing down with the arms) is not strong enough, or if...

Book A Manual Therapist s Guide to Movement

Download or read book A Manual Therapist s Guide to Movement written by Gordon Browne and published by Churchill Livingstone. This book was released on 2006 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A Manual Therapist's Guide to Movement examines the use of non-traditional movement systems in a physical therapy setting, focusing on orthopedic conditions or injuries. Browne derives much of the content of this book from two sophisticated movement systems: the Feldenkrais Method and the Chinese martial art of Tai Chi. He explores the intersection between movement and medicine and explains some of the potential applications of these methods to orthopedic conditions in a language understandable to physical therapists and others with a medical, rather than a movement, background." "The unique style of this approach features reader participation in a series of movement lessons. These lessons start in chapter three and include a written verbal description, picture sequences to illustrate each movement variation and a breakdown and discussion of the lesson afterward. These discussions include descriptions and examples of principles of ideal movement, teaching technique, applications to a clinical setting, links to other similar lessons and descriptions of some possible variations of that lesson. In short, the reader experiences the movement subjectively then reads about the design of that particular lesson and for whom it might be useful."--Jacket.
