Book Manual for Condition Rating of Gravel Surface Roads

Download or read book Manual for Condition Rating of Gravel Surface Roads written by G. J. Chong and published by [Downsview] : Research and Development Branch, Ministry of Transportation of Ontario. This book was released on 1989 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The existing pavement condition rating systems used in Ontario are designed only for hard surfaced roads. To date, there has been no system designed and developed specially to address the unique performance pattern of gravel surface roads. This document was prepared to meet this need and to present a roadway surface condition rating system for gravel surface roads. The manual covers the rating system, distress manifestations, procedures for roadway evaluation, surface defects, surface deformation, and shoulder distress manifestations.

Book Manual for Condition Rating of Surface treated Pavements

Download or read book Manual for Condition Rating of Surface treated Pavements written by G. J. Chong and published by [Downsview] : Research and Development Branch, Ministry of Transportation of Ontario. This book was released on 1989 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rating of highway pavement surface condition is used by highway system authorities as a measure of the ability of the pavement to continue to provide required service to the public. Ratings are based on riding quality and distress manifestations which currently apply only to those roads surfaced with asphaltic concrete and Portland-cement concrete. There is also a network of bituminous surface-treated roads for smaller and more remote population centres which has, to date, had no scheme designed and developed specifically to address their performance pattern. This manual presents a pavement surface condition rating scheme for such roads, based on the same interrelated measures used on the highway system. The manual describes the scheme, and gives a procedure for evaluation, defines riding quality, and details such distress manifestations as surface defects and deformation and cracking, shoulder distress, and maintenance treatments.

Book Gravel Roads

Download or read book Gravel Roads written by Ken Skorseth and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this manual is to provide clear and helpful information for maintaining gravel roads. Very little technical help is available to small agencies that are responsible for managing these roads. Gravel road maintenance has traditionally been "more of an art than a science" and very few formal standards exist. This manual contains guidelines to help answer the questions that arise concerning gravel road maintenance such as: What is enough surface crown? What is too much? What causes corrugation? The information is as nontechnical as possible without sacrificing clear guidelines and instructions on how to do the job right.

Book Manual for Condition Rating of Flexible Pavements

Download or read book Manual for Condition Rating of Flexible Pavements written by G. J. Chong and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 45 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rating of pavement surface condition is used in one form or another by most highway authorities as a measure of the ability of the pavement to continue to provide required service to the public. The more important uses for condition ratings are their use in determining deficiencies, inadequacies, remedial measures, fiscal needs, and in programming. The surface condition rating scheme used in Ontario is based on two interrelated measures - riding quality and distress manifestations.

Book Low Volume Road Engineering

Download or read book Low Volume Road Engineering written by Robert A. Douglas and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-10-09 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Everything that sustains us – grown, mined, or drilled – begins its journey to us on a low-volume road (Long)." Defined as roads with traffic volumes of no more than 400 vehicles per day, they have enormous impacts on economies, communication, and social interaction. Low-volume roads comprise, at one end of the spectrum, farm-to-market roads, roads in developing countries, northern roads, roads on aboriginal lands and parklands; and at the other end of the spectrum, heavy haul roads for mining, oil and gas, oil sands extraction, and forestry. Low-Volume Road Engineering: Design, Construction, and Maintenance gives an international perspective to the engineering design of low-volume roads and their construction and maintenance. It is a single reference drawing from the dispersed literature. It lays out the basic principles of each topic, from road location and geometric design, pavement design, slope stability and erosion control, through construction to maintenance, then refers the reader to more comprehensive treatment elsewhere. Wherever possible, comparisons are made between the standard specifications and practices existing in the US, Canada, the UK, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. Topics covered include the following: Road classification, location, and geometric design Pavement concepts, materials, and thickness design Drainage, erosion and sediment control, and watercrossings Slope stability Geosynthetics Road construction, maintenance, and maintenance management Low-Volume Road Engineering: Design, Construction, and Maintenance is a valuable reference for engineers, planners, designers and project managers in consulting firms, contracting firms and NGOs. It also is an essential reference in support of university courses on transportation engineering and planning, and on mining, oil and gas, and forestry infrastructure.

Book Rating Unsurfaced Roads

Download or read book Rating Unsurfaced Roads written by Robert A. Eaton and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: About two-thirds of the highways in the United States and 90% of all roads worldwide are unsurfaced or lightly surfaced low-volume roads. Many systems are being used to manage the maintenance of these roads. In this manual we describe a method that can help local highway agencies manage their unsurfaced roads. The result of the system is a rating for each section of road indicating how badly that section needs repairs. If you are managing unsurfaced roads, this system will help you keep your road system in good shape by identifying problem areas. Neglected problem areas can deteriorate quickly and require costly major repairs. The ratings from this system will help you decide how to divide up your maintenance budget so that you can get more for your money. An unsurfaced road is any road that does not have portland cement concrete, asphalt concrete or any other surface treatment. Some agencies consider gravel to be a surfacing material; for the purpose of this manual a gravel road in an unsurfaced road.
