Download or read book Design Processes written by W. A. Poelman and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2008 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Technologies enabling computers to process specific languages facilitate economic and political progress of societies where these languages are spoken. Development of methods and systems for language processing is therefore a worthy goal for national governments as well as for business entities and scientific and educational institutions in every country in the world. As work on systems and resources for the 'lower-density' languages becomes more widespread, an important question is how to leverage the results and experience accumulated by the field of computational linguistics for the major languages in the development of resources and systems for lower-density languages. This issue has been at the core of the NATO Advanced Studies Institute on language technologies for middle- and low-density languages held in Georgia in October 2007. This publication is a collection - of publication-oriented versions - of the lectures presented there and is a useful source of knowledge about many core facets of modern computational-linguistic work. By the same token, it can serve as a reference source for people interested in learning about strategies that are best suited for developing computational-linguistic capabilities for lesser-studied languages either 'from scratch' or using components developed for other languages. The book should also be quite useful in teaching practical system- and resource-building topics in computational linguistics.

Book Managing New Product Innovation

Download or read book Managing New Product Innovation written by B. Jerrard and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2003-09-02 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New product design and development is often the result of personal vision. Harnessing this often requires a special receptiveness and enthusiasm at all levels of an organization, which serves to unlock potential and can turn the entire organizational pyramid upside-down. It is particularly important to understand and develop those aspects of design which can be constructively employed by designers in a strategic alliance with management and research.; The papers in this volume result from the conference of the Design Society held at the University of Central England in September 1998. They show how design-led product development has worked in a range of industries, from engineering through to design and management consultancy. Not only practitioners but also students of industrial design and management should find this a valuable contribution to the subject.

Book Design Processes

Download or read book Design Processes written by W. A. Poelman and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Nowadays, the script of life is for a large part written by architects and designers. Urban planning decides how we spread our activities geographical. The design of modern residential districts determines for a large part how we communicate with each other. The design of shopping centers determines how we acquire our food. Designers for means of transport decide how we move ourselves and kitchen designers decide how we cook. All this has to do with the mechanisms of technology diffusion which will be elaborated on in this republication. The main issues discussed are the contemporary interrelationship of industrial design and architecture and a confrontation of contemporary design practice in both domains with academic theory and education. The cases used for this publication provide several examples of the various characters of design processes. The subjects of the cases discussed in 'Design Processes' are design processes in general, visualization as a design tool, project management, social complexity collaboration, decision making and technology diffusion"--Provided by publisher.

Download or read book Design Management written by Kathryn Best and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2015-02-26 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All designers will feel that creativity and innovation are at the heart of their designs. But for a design to have an effective and lasting impact it needs to work within certain structures, or have those structures created suitably around it. No matter how you work, a design can always be improved by assessing where it fits into the market, how it best to strengthen it before it's set in stone, who it could appeal to. It needs to be managed. In this accessible and informative second edition, Kathryn Best brings together the theory and practice of design management. With new interviews, case studies and related exercises, she provides an up to date guide for students wanting to know more about the strategy, process and implementation crucial to the management of design. The book takes its reader through the essential steps to good management of design and highlights topics currently under debate. In each part of the book Strategy, Process and Implementation are each explained using advice from leaders in the industry and real life examples. Best breaks up each part into clear and readable sections to create the perfect undergraduate book on design management.

Book Design Process Improvement

Download or read book Design Process Improvement written by John Clarkson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-03-26 with total page 571 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: vi The process is important! I learned this lesson the hard way during my previous existence working as a design engineer with PA Consulting Group's Cambridge Technology Centre. One of my earliest assignments involved the development of a piece of labo- tory automation equipment for a major European pharmaceutical manufacturer. Two things stick in my mind from those early days – first, that the equipment was always to be ready for delivery in three weeks and, second, that being able to write well structured Pascal was not sufficient to deliver reliable software performance. Delivery was ultimately six months late, the project ran some sixty percent over budget and I gained my first promotion to Senior Engineer. At the time it puzzled me that I had been unable to predict the John Clarkson real effort required to complete the automation project – I had Reader in Engineering Design, genuinely believed that the project would be finished in three Director, Cambridge Engineering weeks. It was some years later that I discovered Kenneth Cooper's Design Centre papers describing the Rework Cycle and realised that I had been the victim of “undiscovered rework”.I quickly learned that project plans were not just inaccurate,as most project managers would attest, but often grossly misleading, bearing little resemblance to actual development practice.

Book Managing Complexity and Creating Innovation through Design

Download or read book Managing Complexity and Creating Innovation through Design written by Satu Miettinen and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-04-18 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coping with complexities is an everyday reality for private, public and third sectors that face intricate, overlapping, obscuring and ever-changing challenges. Developments in technology and systems of value creation are driving a new need to understand, facilitate and manage complexity. The book proposes design and design research as a solution to respond to the complexities associated with the intensifying and rapid changes in societies, technological fields and environments. A four-step design process for managing complexities is introduced in the four parts of this book, spanning from design research in the field to practice-based contexts. This publication collates high-level research and the latest scholarship on this topic, while many of the case studies described herein draw on rich experiences and applications in practice. The ways designers work to overcome complexities through design, and the methods and frameworks presented in the chapters, provide critical insights and form an important scholarly contribution in this subject area.
