Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My book, Managing Critical Seconds Before a School Crisis is intended to motivate principals, teachers, students, and all school stakeholders to achieve the highest level of success in safety in public schools in America. It is organized for principals, policer officers, parents, students, teachers, superintendents, school board members, and politicians to use as a tool to improve safety and eliminate the violent acts of the school shooter in public schools. The organization and framework of this book is based on a true story of a safe and secure schools director who supervised 74 campuses and 60,000 students for 11 years. I saw many facets of school safety and prevention methods prior to my assignment as safe and secure schools director. I speak from a knowledge base of 47 years of service in public schools. This book, Managing Critical Seconds Before a School Crisis will recommend that we strictly enforce security and directions in every phase at the high school level and elementary level. Building a safe learning environment for our students is a top priority! Many challenges still exist and will continue to exist during this violent era in public education in America. We as parents, community leaders, educators, and first responders will face this dilemma together and develop a security system that will allow peace and harmony during time students are on campuses in our public schools. The purpose of this book is to share my views on keys to building an effective campus security system. As director of safe and secure schools for a large urban public school district for 11 years, I had the opportunity to research school security standards, attend safety staff development, seminars, observe "best practices" in surrounding school districts, develop, and implement a school district crisis management plan. We know as educators to put in place the best safety plan for our students and teachers. My book will summarize key components of building an effective campus security system. Managing Critical Seconds Before a School Crisis is designed to raise the hope and dreams of all high school and elementary school students who need to believe that accepting a challenge to be the best is only possible when hard work is applied correctly and in a timely manner. This book will recommend that we strictly enforce security and directions in every phase of school safety. The average elementary and junior high reader will have the opportunity to read this book and understand the path of a safe and secure learning environment.

Managing Critical Seconds Before a School Crisis is organized for principals, police officers, parents, students, teachers, superintendents, school board members, and politicians to use as a tool to improve safety and eliminate the violent acts of the potential school shooter in public schools. The foundation for developing and implementing safety practices is documented by Dr. Johnson, an educator with forty-seven years of experience in America's public schools who served the final eleven years as director of Safe and Secure Schools. Dr. Clarence Johnson utilized his experiences as an assistant principal for ten years and as a high school principal for fourteen years. He paints a picture of the guidelines that must be placed in a safe and secure school environment and addresses the specific safety features that must be in place for the 2019-2020 School Year. He speaks from a knowledge based on thirty-six years of service: a teacher of junior high school mathematics for ten years, a high school counselor for two years, a secondary assistant principal for ten years, a junior college site supervisor for four years, and a high school principal for fourteen years. Managing Critical Seconds Before a School Crisis will recommend that we strictly enforce security and directions in every phase at the high school level and elementary level. Building a safe learning environment for our students is a top priority! Many challenges still exist and will continue to exist during this violent era in public education in America. Managing Critical Seconds Before a School Crisis will address how to meet these challenges! We, as parents, community leaders, educators, and first responders, will face this dilemma together and develop a security system that will allow peace and harmony during the time students are on campuses in our public schools. Divided into six sections, the book traces the history and theory of management education, reimagining central educational principles and outlining an emerging practice-based approach.
