Book Modeling Human and Organizational Behavior

Download or read book Modeling Human and Organizational Behavior written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1998-08-31 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Simulations are widely used in the military for training personnel, analyzing proposed equipment, and rehearsing missions, and these simulations need realistic models of human behavior. This book draws together a wide variety of theoretical and applied research in human behavior modeling that can be considered for use in those simulations. It covers behavior at the individual, unit, and command level. At the individual soldier level, the topics covered include attention, learning, memory, decisionmaking, perception, situation awareness, and planning. At the unit level, the focus is on command and control. The book provides short-, medium-, and long-term goals for research and development of more realistic models of human behavior.

Book Analysis Analysis Practices and Implications for Modeling and Simulation

Download or read book Analysis Analysis Practices and Implications for Modeling and Simulation written by Paul K. Davis and published by Rand Corporation. This book was released on 2007 with total page 89 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An examination of analysis and analysis practices for defense planning, the paper1s purpose is to delineate priorities for the way ahead, i.e., for investments and other actions to ensure that future models and simulations will serve the needs of decisionmakers. The analysis in question is accomplished for Quadrennial Reviews and for continuing work on capability assessments, requirements analysis, and program analysis.

Book excerpt: Describes the evolving coordination of simulation activities under the auspices of the Defense Modeling and Simulation Office within DoD. Also addresses the Army's efforts to strengthen the management of its simulation programs, with a particular focus on the acquisition of the Close Combat Tactical Trainer (CCTT). Also includes a review of the Army's CCTT acquisition plan to ensure that it provided for: high level mgmt. oversight, system interoperability, and integration of the system with more traditional forms of training for greater cost effectiveness.

Book Computer Simulation of General and Flag Officer Management

Download or read book Computer Simulation of General and Flag Officer Management written by Peter Schirmer and published by RAND Corporation. This book was released on 2009 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, the RAND National Defense Research Institute has developed a simulation model that is capable of managing hundreds or thousands of officers individually according to complex laws, policies, and practices. The model can address very detailed questions that are not easily answered using spreadsheet models, stock-and-flow models, or linear programming models. The simulation model has been applied to research sponsored by the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the Army, the Navy, and the Air Force. This technical report describes the design of a version of the simulation model that has been adapted specifically to address general and flag officer management subject to provisions of the Duncan Hunter National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2009. The report also provides results requested by the Office of the Secretary of Defense, which has sponsored most of the work using different versions of the simulation model.

Book Defense Modeling Simulation and Analysis

Download or read book Defense Modeling Simulation and Analysis written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2006-09-22 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modeling, simulation, and analysis (MS&A) is a crucial tool for military affairs. MS&A is one of the announced pillars of a strategy for transforming the U.S. military. Yet changes in the enterprise of MS&A have not kept pace with the new demands arising from rapid changes in DOD processes and missions or with the rapid changes in the technology available to meet those demands. To help address those concerns, DOD asked the NRC to identify shortcomings in current practice of MS&A and suggest where and how they should be resolved. This report provides an assessment of the changing mission of DOD and environment in which it must operate, an identification of high-level opportunities for MS&A research to address the expanded mission, approaches for improving the interface between MS&A practitioners and decision makers, a discussion of training and continuing education of MS&A practitioners, and an examination of the need for coordinated military science research to support MS&A.

Book Generalizing Concepts and Methods of Verification Validation and Accreditation VV A for Military Simulations

Download or read book Generalizing Concepts and Methods of Verification Validation and Accreditation VV A for Military Simulations written by Paul K. Davis and published by . This book was released on 1992-01-01 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study on verification, validation, and accreditation (VV & A) seeks, for military models and simulations, to (1) provide a simple and realistic framework for modelers, analysts, managers, and recipients of analysis; (2) address important complications that have received too little attention in the past (e.g., evaluation of knowledge-based models such as those representing command-and-control decisions and other behaviors); and (3) discuss how modern model-building technology is changing the way we should develop models and conduct VV & A. The study illustrates many of its suggestions about VV & A with specific examples of language that might be used in reports and accreditation reviews. It sketches elements of advanced modeling and analysis environments that would make such work easier.

Book Organizational Simulation

Download or read book Organizational Simulation written by William B. Rouse and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2005-07-22 with total page 690 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From modeling and simulation to games and entertainment With contributions from leaders in systems and organizational modeling, behavioral and social sciences, computing and visualization, and gaming and entertainment, Organizational Simulation both articulates the grand vision of immersive environments and shows, in detail, how to realize it. This book offers unparalleled insight into the cutting edge of the field, since it was written by those who actually researched, designed, developed, deployed, marketed, sold, and critiqued today's best organizational simulations. The coverage is divided into four sections: * Introduction outlines the need for organizational simulation to support strategic thinking, design of unprecedented systems, and organizational learning, including the functionality and technology required to enable this support * Behaviors covers the state of knowledge of individual, group, and team behaviors and performance, how performance can best be supported, how performance is affected by national differences, and how organizational performance can best be measured * Modeling describes the latest approaches to modeling and simulating people, groups, teams, and organizations, as well as narrative contexts and organizational environments within which these entities act, drawing from a rich set of modeling methods and tools * Simulations and Games illustrates a wide range of fielded simulations, games, and entertainment, including the methods and tools employed for designing, developing, deploying, and evaluating these systems, as well as the social implications for the associated communities that have emerged Addressing all levels of organizational simulation architecture with theories and applications, and enabling technologies for each, Organizational Simulation offers students and professionals the premier reference and practical toolbox for this dynamic field.
