Book excerpt: Mama Melisi and Me is a compilation of the author's short stories, each followed by one of her mom's delicious recipes. Some of the stories depict life growing up in an Italian household in New Jersey. Others are fun and hilarious observations of events and experiences. The project started after Mama Melisi unexpectedly lost her only sister, Rose. Thinking a healthy distraction was in order, the author began writing humorous and heartwarming stories, and requesting specific recipes via e-mail from Mama Melisi. The plot of each story was always an entertaining surprise and ended with the select recipe. The long-distance collaboration between mother and daughter continued, and soon gained a larger audience of family and friends. The idea was born to share "Mama Melisi and Me" with you, too. This is not just an ordinary cookbook. It is an intimate journey that includes over 50 easy recipes, and delicious little stories to munch on while you cook. Test your culinary talent by trying traditional Italian dishes including pasta, seafood, and desserts. When you are done in the kitchen, relax and enjoy this quick read. This Italian cookbook offers zany laughs in "Bathroom Anxiety" and "Guess Who's Coming to the Barbecue." There is also a poignant tribute to September 11th in "Remembrance" and a heartwarming reaction to the Royal Wedding in "Grace, Giggles and Grins - A Portrait of the Royal Wedding." Silly, uplifting, fun, nostalgic - there's a little bit of everything for everyone in Mama Melisi and Me. Whether you find yourself laughing, or with a tear in your eye, you'll always have a delicious recipe to try.

Book Further investigations into the nature of phrasal compounding

Download or read book Further investigations into the nature of phrasal compounding written by Carola Trips and published by Language Science Press. This book was released on 2017 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of papers on phrasal compounding is part of a bigger project whose aims are twofold: First, it seeks to broaden the typological perspective by providing data for as many different languages as possible to gain a better understanding of the phenomenon itself. Second, based on these data which clearly show interaction between syntax and morphology it aims to discuss theoretical models which deal with this kind of interaction in different ways. Models like Generative Grammar, assume components of grammar and a clear-cut distinction between the lexicon (often including morphology) and grammar. Other models like construction grammar do not assume such components and are rather based on a lexicon including constructs. A comparison of these models on the basis of this phenomenon on the morphology-syntax interface makes it possible to assess their descriptive and explanatory power.

Nungon is a previously-undescribed Finisterre-Huon Papuan language spoken by about 1,000 people in the Saruwaged Mountains, Morobe Province. Hannah Sarvasy provides a rich description of the language in its cultural context, based on original immersion fieldwork. The exposition is extraordinarily thorough, covering phonetics, phonology, word classes, morphology, grammatical relations, switch-reference, valency, complex predicates, clause combining, possession, information structure, and the pragmatics of communication. Four complete interlinearized Nungon monologues and dialogues supplement the copious textual examples. A Grammar of Nungon sets a new standard of thoroughness for reference works on languages of this region.

Book excerpt: First, She Seduced Them. . . Sheila LaBarre liked to troll the personal ads and homeless shelters, looking for men whom society had rejected for one reason or another--men she could easily dominate both verbally and sexually. One by one, she invited them to her remote New Hampshire farmhouse, where she engaged them in S&M. But over time, sex gave way to brutal acts of torture as she mercilessly flogged and beat her captives until they confessed to committing unspeakable acts. Once satisfied that they had paid for their sins, Sheila savagely slaughtered them and burned their remains on her farm. . . Then, Humiliated, Tortured, And Killed Them. . . From the disturbing audiotapes Sheila made of her victims' confessions to her own bizarre statements in which she claimed to have returned from the dead to be God's avenger, The Burn Farm takes you behind the scenes of the scandal that rocked a quiet New England town, and into the twisted, depraved mind of a manipulative, cold-blooded murderer. . . Includes 16 Pages of Shocking Photos
