Book excerpt: What does being a Malfunction mean? Well, to put it in simple terms, you're dead meat. Being a Malfunction is fatal, and it often gets you killed in front of the entire State. The only thing you can do to escape death is run. Run as far away from The State as you can. Life in The State is not exciting. Cassiopeia has lived there her entire life, and that basically means that she has lived a satisfying life. According to the government, that is. She has no friends and no family. She lives by the rules, trying to blend in with everyone so she is not seen as an outsider. But things change for her when Malfunctions start popping up in The State. After witnessing the death of the Malfunction who murdered The President of The State, Cassiopeia returns to her Residential Unit and heads to bed, knowing that life is only going to get worse from there. Security will be tightened, and anyone who is seen as an outsider is going to be taken to The Labour District where they will spend the rest of their life in misery and agony. That night, after Cassiopeia has fallen into a peaceful slumber, she wakes up to a rapid pounding on her door. The minute Cassiopeia opens that door, she has to make a decision that will change her life drastically and put it in danger for as long as she lives.

Book Transportome Malfunction in the Cancer Spectrum

Download or read book Transportome Malfunction in the Cancer Spectrum written by Christian Stock and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-01-01 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first of three volumes in the "Ion Channels & Transporters in Tumor Biology" collection, which discusses the function of ion transport proteins in cellular and systemic homeostasis. The authors highlight the role of the so-called transportome, which is defined by the entirety of ion transporters and ion channels. Thereby, readers will get a better understanding of the impact dysregulated ion transport has on the whole spectrum of cancer types. Cancers display deficiencies in several, sometimes interdependent members of the transportome. Clinicians will be interested in the fact that controlled expression of ion transport proteins dramatically impacts the life span of cancer patients, as shown in recent studies. These observations offer a promising outlook for biomedical scientists, as members of the transportome could be the tumor markers of tomorrow - both for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. As part of a three-volume collection, this book will fascinate members of the active research community, as well as clinicians from the cancer field.

Book Cracked Media

Download or read book Cracked Media written by Caleb Kelly and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2009 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In Cracked Media, Caleb Kelly explores how the deliberate utilization of the normally undesirable (a crack, a break) has become the site of productive creation. Cracked media, Kelly writes, slides across disciplines, through music, sound, and noise. Cracked media encompasses everything from Cage's silences and indeterminacies, to Paik's often humorous tape works, to the cold and clean sounds of digital glitch in the work of Tone and Oval. Kelly offers a detailed historical account of these practices, arguing that they can be read as precursors to contemporary new media.".

Book The Fragments malfunctioning

Download or read book The Fragments malfunctioning written by TG Watts and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2013-08-08 with total page 49 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tom Watts lives and works in south-east London. His poetry has been published in Equilibrium Magazine, Remark, Plus-Que-Parfait, Streetcake Magazine, zimZalla, and a chapbook is forthcoming on The Arthur Shilling Press. Away from poetry, he writes reviews for Rabbit Hole Urban Music, and his short story 'Wasps' was long-listed for the 2010 Fish Short Story Prize. He is currently grappling man to man with his first novel. So far the novel is winning. He is fascinated by the accidental glimpse of the internet that broken coding provides. When, like the bones of a busted umbrella, the facade of the internet is ripped away and it's scaffolding revealed, it always has the appearance of a chaotic randomness. It is in fact the opposite as every letter, symbol, and mark must be in exactly the right place for the code to work. This is demonstrated beautifully by the probably simple error of composition that has caused the site or blog to malfunction and blurt out the ugly piece of code.
