Book Maladjusted Schooling RLE Edu L

Download or read book Maladjusted Schooling RLE Edu L written by John F Schostak and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-05-16 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problems this book discusses are the same now as they were 25 years ago: unemployment, poor housing, inadequate facilities, poverty, racism, violence. What is the function of a school in such a situation? Although many schools hold reformist ideals, their practice is constrained by organisational demands. School organisation is based upon a coercive theory of social control which is intolerant of expressions of individuality by teachers and pupils. Needs for individuality may be mistaken for deviance, and deviance is at least in part produced by, or exacerbated by, school organisation. The author maintains that schooling is therefore largely maladjusted to the needs of individuals.

Book Effective Schooling for Pupils with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties

Download or read book Effective Schooling for Pupils with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties written by John Visser and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-23 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First Published in 1998. Increasing pressure and new demands on LEAs, schools and their staff have led to an overall reduction in the number of special schools for children with EBD and a questioning of their place within the range of provision for these pupils. Recent attention has also been drawn by HMCI to the number of these schools which have failed to pass the OFSTED inspection process. This book is based on a national exanimation of special schools providing for pupils with EBD. The authors identify factors associated with good practice and offer advice on how schools can become more effective in providing for the country's most troubled and challenging pupils. They also highlight aspects of successful provision which can be applied in mainstream schools and pupil referral units.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Disaffected pupils respond well in circumstances where they feel secure, where they have a sense of being valued and respected, and where they perceive there to be opportunities for them to succeed. Effective Schools for Disaffected Students offers insights into how these outcomes might be achieved in both mainstream and segregated settings. The investigation is based on the views of pupils who have been excluded from mainstream schools for pupils with emotional and behavioural difficulties. The author relates the pupils' experiences of the different types of school to research in the area of school effectiveness. He offers some practical guidelines on ways in which teachers and managers can work towards reducing disaffection in schools within the real life contexts in which they occur. The book will appeal to anybody whose concerns are with the everday realities of schooling.

Book excerpt: What can schools and teachers do to promote discipline in the classroom? How do discipline and learning interact? The Elton Committee was set up in 1989 to consider ‘what action can be taken to secure the orderly atmosphere necessary in schools for effective teaching and learning to take place’. In this collection of papers, originally published in 1992, ten leading figures in the psychology of education reflect on some of the issues raised by the Elton Report and provide a series of psychological models for tackling problems of discipline, disorder and disruption in schools. Areas covered include whole-school approaches to discipline, the connection between learning difficulties and discipline problems, the effectiveness of positive behavioural methods of classroom management, the possible uses of techniques derived from family therapy in classroom discipline situations and the ‘good relationship’ between teacher and student as an agent of change. Though the perspectives of the contributors are very different, the emphasis throughout is on establishing a way forward for schools that will be valid and workable both in institutional terms and for the individual teacher in the classroom.

Book Creatively Maladjusted

Download or read book Creatively Maladjusted written by Theodore Richards and published by . This book was released on 2024-07-24 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Education is the subject of much public debate. Politicians and bureaucrats, educators and parents, students and concerned citizens all have an interest-and a stake-in the way we educate our children. But while much is said about the subject, seldom are the more profound, difficult questions ever asked, questions that require not only changing the way schools are organized and classes are taught, but also require a radical transformation of the very concept of education in the modern world. Creatively Maladjusted: The Wisdom Education Movement Manifesto approaches the problem of education from just such a radically new perspective.

Book Special Educational Needs and Disability

Download or read book Special Educational Needs and Disability written by Janice Wearmouth and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-11-30 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Special Educational Needs and Disability provides a clear, coherent overview of the historical development of the field of special educational, or additional learning or support needs and disability, and discusses important past and current social and political contexts in which this took place, as well as changes in the law across time. It offers broad coverage of a range of needs and disabilities, and how to effectively identify and support those young people who experience such needs. This revised fourth edition covers recent legislative changes across the UK, an expanded discussion of key areas such as social, emotional, and mental health, a new chapter on literacy difficulties, and further fair, balanced, and open discussion of up-to-date evidence that indicates how young people who experience barriers to their learning are affected by factors associated with such marketisation, for example competition between schools and the academies programme. Special Educational Needs and Disability serves as essential reading for trainee and practising teachers, members of governing boards in schools and colleges, policymakers, and all those working directly with learners and their families.

Book Helping Students with Learning Difficulties

Download or read book Helping Students with Learning Difficulties written by David W. Chan and published by Chinese University Press. This book was released on 1998 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How can we usefully understand the developments of special education in Hong Kong? What lessons can we learn from the developments and provisions of special education services in other societies such as the United Kingdom, Taiwan, and mainland China? What forms of educational or instructional practice can we envision as capable of offering new possibilities for helping Hong Kong students with learning difficulties? This book addresses all these and a host of other questions. In his extensive treatment of the topic, David W. Chan covers the role of special education in Hong Kong today, and contrasts it with special education systems in the United Kingdom and mainland China. Finally, he devotes his attention to exploring the perspectives of students and teachers to learning difficulties and the issues and means of intervention in helping students with learning difficulties.
