Book Making the Right Connections

Download or read book Making the Right Connections written by Susan Tsui Grundmann and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2011-05 with total page 67 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some abilities needed for Federal jobs may be inherently more difficult to learn than others. Research on mental abilities distinguishes among those that can be developed through training, those that are unresponsive to training, and those that are moderately responsive. This dimension is known as "trainability." This report contrasts employee perceptions of the trainability of job-relevant abilities with research findings about the actual trainability of these abilities. The goal is to help agencies use training resources to enhance individual and organizational performance by highlighting abilities for which training may be less beneficial than other organizational improvement strategies. Book Making The Right Connections A Cautionary Account Of WMD Intelligence

Download or read book Making The Right Connections A Cautionary Account Of WMD Intelligence written by Charles Tuten and published by Running End Ltd. This book was released on 2005 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Making The (Right) Connections: A Cautionary Account Of WMD Intelligence Can an intelligence service find hidden weapons of mass destruction if it doesn't recognize WMD in plain sight? This hard-hitting monograph, exploiting recent declassification of Cold War materials, presents a timely case study of US intelligence performance. Presenting details of intelligence analysis at work, illustrating realities of inquiry, the convolutions and uncertainties, the known, the missed, the forgotten. Intelligence mirage and reality are contrasted, with the intricate array of made, mishandled, and missed connections providing the unifying theme. The monograph constitutes an intelligence report, reassessing evidence to reach a new conclusion unnoticed by contemporaries, and revealed here for the first time. Intelligence outcomes during missile crises of the late 1950s- early 1960s, and 1980s, are examined and contrasted in this insider's account. Deployments of Soviet long-range nuclear missiles to the German Democratic Republic (East Germany) targeted critical American and NATO assets in Britain, West Germany, Spain, as well as in other European countries (in the first crisis, undetected by Western intelligence services). The account will alter the historical perspective of US intelligence success regarding the October 1962 Cuban missile confrontation. Intelligence misconstruing of information from a key agent, Soviet officer Oleg Penkovsky, is noteworthy. Imagery, clandestine source reporting, and recent Russian revelations are meshed to provide a revised picture of events. The account imparts caveats for historians, and policy analysts evaluating contemporary WMD issues, and is essential reading for anyone seeking to understand the vagaries of intelligence analysis. Much of the material has never before been publicly revealed. The 28 pages include 11 pages with illustrations.

Book Making the Right Connections

Download or read book Making the Right Connections written by Howard V. Malmstadt and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors believe that the effectiveness of future generations of scientists depends in part on their ability to use intelligently, diagnose, and modify their microcomputer-based and electronic instrumentation. Using a "top-down" approach, the authors present electronic concepts, principles, and technology that are impacting our daily lives. They start at the top, by providing a broad perspective of electronic instrumentation, and work down to functional modules, devices, and detailed operations. This top-down approach enables all of the pieces to fit together so that a working knowledge is developed as one proceeds through the chapters. Written specifically for chemists, physicists, engineers, biologists, medical researchers, students, and other technical personnel who can benefit from "making the right connections" to modern instrumentation, this book will empower you to gain better control and make better use of your microcomputers and laboratory instruments.

Book Making is Connecting

Download or read book Making is Connecting written by David Gauntlett and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-04-29 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Making is Connecting, David Gauntlett argues that, through making things, people engage with the world and create connections with each other. Both online and offline, we see that people want to make their mark on the world, and to make connections. During the previous century, the production of culture became dominated by professional elite producers. But today, a vast array of people are making and sharing their own ideas, videos and other creative material online, as well as engaging in real-world crafts, art projects and hands-on experiences. Gauntlett argues that we are seeing a shift from a ‘sit-back-and-be-told culture' to a ‘making-and-doing culture'. People are rejecting traditional teaching and television, and making their own learning and entertainment instead. Drawing on evidence from psychology, politics, philosophy and economics, he shows how this shift is necessary and essential for the happiness and survival of modern societies.

Book Creating Connections in Teaching and Learning

Download or read book Creating Connections in Teaching and Learning written by Lindy Abawi and published by IAP. This book was released on 2011-12-01 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the wide range of contexts in which research into creating connections in learning and teaching may take place. Creating connections can encompass making links, crossing divides, forming relationships, building frameworks, and generating new knowledge. The cognitive, cultural, social, emotional and/or physical aspects of understanding, meaning-making, motivating, acting, researching, and evaluating are explored as constituent forms of creativity in relation to such connections. From this exploration the authors identify varied connective contexts and means which include the learner, the educator, the organisation, and the relevant community. The crossing of divides, forming learner-educator relationships, bringing together diverse groups of learners, establishing networks and partnerships among educators, and establishing links between organisations and communities are all considered as connections which can be created by and within the learning and teaching dynamic. By examining the factors which help to facilitate and/or restrict the possibilities for creating connections in educational contexts, implications for and outcomes of learning and/or teaching arise from the connections created. The final chapter of this book will explicate the realisations that have emerged for educators and researchers working to create connections. These offer suggestions for future directions and enunciate what and how connections might contribute to both educational institutions and the broader society.
