This book was released on 2008-03-25 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In August of 2007, when global stock markets plunged and gold headed to a low of $660 an ounce, many investment experts warned of an imminent drop in the price of gold to $500 an ounce. Instead, J.S. Kim told his clients to buy gold and predicted a month later that gold would reach $850 an ounce by the end of 2007. Gold hit $850 an ounce on January 3, 2007. On November 16,2007, as Wall Street firms advised their clients to "buy the dips", J.S. boldly stated, "Use rallies like the one last Wednesday where the Dow piled on 300+ points in one session to sell out if for some reason you are still heavily invested in U.S. stocks" and predicted that triple-digit losses in the Dow would soon become "commonplace." By the second week of January, the DJIA and the Nikkei 225 had both plunged more than 1,000 points while stock markets in Korea, Hong Kong, and Europe also plummeted. Learn why you shouldn't listen to the investment industry...ever. And discover how to build a fortune from the coming global economic crisis.

Download or read book Whom Fortune Favours written by Laurence B. Mussio and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 2020-04-16 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bank of Montreal is not only Canada's first bank: it has also occupied a prominent place in the pantheon of Canadian nation building. Whom Fortune Favours examines the trajectory of this extraordinary organization across the span of two centuries. The historian Laurence Mussio applies an analytical lens to a financial institution whose strategies fundamentally shaped, and were shaped by, the evolution of a country and a continent. The Bank of Montreal (BMO) represents an extremely rare institution, one that has both endured and adapted to fundamental change. The depth and breadth of the Bank's history offer a unique opportunity to analyze a singular organization over ten generations. As an institution, BMO played a critical part in the destiny of its home city and in the emergence of Canada on an international scene. Crucial to the development of Canadian and North American financial systems, BMO shaped the political economy of banking. Over the last half century, the institution's response to successive economic, technological, demographic, and regulatory shifts illustrates how Canadian and North American finance has adapted to the challenges before it. At its heart, Whom Fortune Favours presents a multifaceted story about the making of contemporary finance. This epic chronicle is the result of a massive research effort incorporating thousands of never-before-released internal documents. Mussio's accessible narrative will appeal to both scholars and executives who seek to understand the origins, development, and present-day implications of one of North America's great institutions.

Book The Diva the Rancher

Download or read book The Diva the Rancher written by Jennifer Hamblin and published by Rocky Mountain Books Ltd. This book was released on 2006 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Big dreams, dashed hopes and romance are at the heart of this biography of Norma and George Pocaterra. The story begins in 1903 when George Pocaterra left Italy and came to the Canadian Rockies with hopes of striking it rich. George is best known for establishing the Buffalo Head Ranch in the foothills of Alberta. He developed a close friendship with members of the Stoney Indians, and was one of the first non-Natives to explore much of what is now called Kananaskis Country. In 1933, he returned to Italy, where he met and fell in love with Norma Piper, a young Calgary singer who had moved to Italy to study opera. They eventually married, and George took over the management of Norma's rising operatic career. World War II forced a return to Canada in 1939. In Calgary, Norma became part of the local music scene, giving concerts and teaching singing at Mount Royal College. In 1955, she started her own studio and over the next 25 years became one of Calgary's most loved music teachers. George, meanwhile, continued with his coal-mining ventures, although he suffered bitter disappointments. Drawing on personal diaries and correspondence, the authors have created an intimate portrait of these remarkable Albertans who became, each in their own way, legends in their lifetimes.
