Book excerpt: There are few creative acts more mysterious and magical than writing a song. But what if the goal wasn't so mysterious and was actually achievable for anyone who wants to experience more magic and creativity in their life? That's something that anyone will be inspired to do after reading Jeff Tweedy's How to Write One Song. Why one song? Because the difference between one song and many songs isn't a cute semantic trick—it's an important distinction that can simplify a notoriously confusing art form. The idea of becoming a capital-S songwriter can seem daunting, but approached as a focused, self-contained event, the mystery and fear subsides, and songwriting becomes an exciting pursuit. And then there is the energizing, nourishing creativity that can open up. How to Write One Song brings readers into the intimate process of writing one song—lyrics, music, and putting it all together—and accesses the deep sense of wonder that remains at the heart of this curious, yet incredibly fulfilling, artistic act. But it’s equally about the importance of making creativity part of your life every day, and of experiencing the hope, inspiration, and joy available to anyone who’s willing to get started.

Astaire is best known for his brilliant dancing in the movie musicals of the 1930s, but in Music Makes Me, Todd Decker argues that Astaire’s work as a dancer and choreographer —particularly in the realm of tap dancing—made a significant contribution to the art of jazz. Decker examines the full range of Astaire’s work in filmed and recorded media, from a 1926 recording with George Gershwin to his 1970 blues stylings on television, and analyzes Astaire’s creative relationships with the greats, including George and Ira Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern, and Johnny Mercer. He also highlights Astaire’s collaborations with African American musicians and his work with lesser known professionals—arrangers, musicians, dance directors, and performers.

Book Watch Me Play A Self guided Music Course for Children Easy to Play Sheet Music with Colors and Letters for Beginners Super Simple Songs for Keyboard or Piano

Download or read book Watch Me Play A Self guided Music Course for Children Easy to Play Sheet Music with Colors and Letters for Beginners Super Simple Songs for Keyboard or Piano written by and published by Helen Winter. This book was released on with total page 63 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is tailored for absolute beginners in music, whether they are kids or adults. We have deliberately kept the content simple, employing an "easy-to-play" visual guide that allows any novice to start making music quickly. No prior musical knowledge or background is required, making it accessible for both children and their parents. Each song is accompanied by a large and straightforward visual aid, color and letter-coded, alongside traditional sheet music. The instructions are structured to guide children from basic circles to reading notes using sheet music, making the learning process akin to a game where children progress through different levels on their own. The book comprises 22 songs and offers three options to help beginners start playing immediately: Playing by Color Circle Playing by Letter Playing with the Musical Staff Initially, players can follow the circles and then transition to interpreting classic note symbols and staff. Helpful letters are always provided above the notes for easy reference. The book is divided into three parts, corresponding to three levels of difficulty: Level 1: This section features songs played within one octave. Each song is presented twice: first with circles and then with classic music notes, aiding children in memorizing staff notes. For example: Mary Had a Little Lamb - Version 1 - Circles Mary Had a Little Lamb - Version 1 - Notes Level 2: Here, you will find songs presented in both circle and note formats, as well as more advanced versions with detailed musical notation. For example: Hot Cross Buns - Version 1 - Circles Hot Cross Buns - Version 1 - Notes Hot Cross Buns - Version 2 - Notes (This version introduces different key signatures and teaches transposition skills.) Generally, the sheet music versions of the songs are slightly more complex, incorporating musical notations like rests or beams. An illustrated explanation of these notations is provided at the end of the book. Level 3: This section features different combinations of notes for the same melody, presented in both circle and note formats. This enables beginners to understand how the same melody can be played in various keys. Primarily designed for newcomers to keyboard instruments such as the piano or synthesizer, this book offers 22 one-hand piano songs. It also serves as an excellent self-training guide for children and beginner adults looking to master percussion instruments like the kalimba, marimba, xylophone, glockenspiel, or even a color bell set. Book Watch Me Play a Self Guided Music Course for Children

Download or read book Watch Me Play a Self Guided Music Course for Children written by Helen Winter and published by . This book was released on 2020-06 with total page 59 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is for kids or adults who are absolute beginners in music. We tried to write it as simply as possible. That is why we use an "easy-to-play" visual aid so any beginner can play music quickly. Neither kids nor their parents have to read sheet music or have a musical background. No previous knowledge is necessary. None at all. Every song has a large and simple, color and letter coded visual, along with traditional sheet music. The instruction is designed so that children begin with simple circles and gradually advance to reading notes using sheet music. We try to make this transition as easy as a game, where children advance to higher levels themselves. There are totally 22 songs and 3 options to help children to begin to play right away. PLAYING BY COLOR CIRCLE PLAY BY LETTER PLAY WITH THE MUSICAL STAFF The player can first follow the circles and then repeat with the classic note symbols and staff. The helpful letters are always above the notes. There are 3 parts in this book. They are equal to 3 levels. Level 1. Songs that are played in one octave. All songs here appear twice: once written with circles and the next time with classic music notes. This will help kids remember the staff notes. For example: Mary Had a Little Lamb - Ver 1 - Circles Mary Had a Little Lamb - Ver 1 - Notes Level 2 In this part, you will find one version with both circles and notes, and a more advanced version of the song with notes and musical notation. For example: Hot Cross Buns - Ver 1 - CIRCLES Hot Cross Buns - Ver 1 - NOTES Hot Cross Buns - Ver 2 - NOTES (Here the player will play songs in a different key and learn to transpose.) Generally, the version of the song written with sheet music is a little bit more complex than a letter-coded version. Such versions already have music notation such as rests or beams, etc. You can find an illustrated explanation of the notation at the end of this book. Level 3 Here, the first two songs are versions of the same melody (different combinations of notes) written with circles and notes. This is important so that the beginner can see how the same melody can be played in different keys. First of all, this book is addressed to newcomers to any keyboard instrument (such as Piano or Synthesizer). We offer 22 one-hand piano songs. Also, it is a perfect self-training guide for children and beginner adults to mastering the challenges of percussion instruments such as kalimba, marimba, xylophone, glockenspiel, or even color bell set.
