Book excerpt: "Majestic Restoration: Taste of Hell, Glimpse of Heaven," authored by Bryan A. Roscoe, presents readers with stunning details of his encounters with Hell, then with Heaven. As you read this terror filled encounter with Hell, you will feel and experience it as if it is all happening -- vividly to you. Bryan's unexpected and unforgettable trip into Hell will bring you to the ultimate mental and spiritual brink. He takes you into that abyss right along side of him! You will know and feel there is no escape. Not long after that terror filled encounter, he caught a Glimpse of Heaven. Bryan knew that he had an obligation to get the word out regarding his two near death experiences. He understood they happened to him for a reason bigger than himself, and is compelled to make this known to a lost world, with equal and real encounters ahead for everyone. Bryan brings the drama, terror and supense of his near death encounters directly home to you. To write it he relived it. The stark terror of his enconter with hell was not an easy task to write about. Nor one he desired. Forget the nonsense that Hell is merely a joke. Then, he had yet another close encounter, but he did not experience another near death. Bryan fell asleep while driving at the wheel, then veered off into a swamp after hitting and snapping a telephone pole in half -- then encountering a tree. His vehicle landed on its top, after rolling over several times. He was able to walk away. Slightly bruised, but otherwise okay. This happened in the middle of writing this book. Here is his true story, written especially with you in mind. Hell and Heaven: You do have the Right to know! R. Maureen

Download or read book The Restoration Economy written by Storm Cunningham and published by Berrett-Koehler Publishers. This book was released on 2002-11-02 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Restoration Economy reveals the previously undocumented trillion-dollar global industries that are restoring our natural and manmade environments. Restorative development is rapidly overtaking new development because we are running out of things to develop. Most natural areas are already either farmed or degraded, and cities have built all the way to their borders. However, there is no lack of things to redevelop and restore. Storm Cunningham surveys the wide range of restoration industries and points out the connections among them. He shows, for example, how the restoration of a river ecosystem can have a major impact on the commercial success of a redeveloped historic urban waterfront. Written for a broad range of audiences, The Restoration Economy is an entertaining blend of business, science, and economics that details exciting new business and investment opportunities in this dynamic economic sector.

Download or read book Structural Studies Repairs and Maintenance of Heritage Architecture XVII Earthquake Resistant Engineering Structures XIII written by S. Hernández and published by WIT Press. This book was released on 2021-07-26 with total page 443 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Structural Studies, Repairs and Maintenance of Heritage Architecture XVII The importance of retaining the built cultural heritage cannot be overstated. Rapid development and inappropriate conservation techniques are threatening many heritage unique sites in different parts of the world. Selected papers presented at the 17th International Conference on Studies, Repairs and Maintenance of Heritage Architecture are included in this volume. They address a series of topics related to the historical aspects and the reuse of heritage buildings, as well as technical issues on the structural integrity of different types of buildings, such as those constructed with materials as varied as iron and steel, concrete, masonry, wood or earth. Restoration processes require the appropriate characterisation of those materials, the modes of construction and the structural behaviour of the building. This knowledge can be gained through a series of material characterisation techniques, preferably via non-destructive tests. Modern computer simulation can provide accurate results demonstrating the stress state of the building and possible failure mechanisms affecting its stability. Of particular importance are studies related to their dynamic and earthquake behaviour aiming to provide an assessment of the seismic vulnerability of heritage buildings. Contributions originate from scientists, architects, engineers and restoration experts from all over the world and deal with different aspects of heritage buildings, including how to formulate regulatory policies, to ensure effective ways of preserving the architectural heritage. Earthquake Resistant Engineering Structures XIII Papers presented at the 13th International Conference on Earthquake Resistant Engineering Structures form this volume and cover basic and applied research in the various fields of earthquake engineering relevant to the design of structures. Major earthquakes and associated effects such as tsunamis continue to stress the need to carry out more research on those topics. The problems will intensify as population pressure results in buildings in regions of high seismic vulnerability. A better understanding of these phenomena is required to design earthquake resistant structures and to carry out risk assessments and vulnerability studies. The problem of protecting the built environment in earthquake-prone regions involves not only the optimal design and construction of new facilities but also the upgrading and rehabilitation of existing structures including heritage buildings. The type of highly specialized retrofitting employed to protect the built heritage is an important area of research. The included papers cover such topics as Seismic hazard and tsunamis; Building performance during earthquakes; Structural vulnerability; Seismic isolation and energy dissipation; Passive earthquake protection systems.

Download or read book Rizzo s Fire written by Lou Manfredo and published by Minotaur Books. This book was released on 2011-03-01 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As twenty-year NYPD veteran Joe Rizzo edges closer to retirement, things only seem to get harder: a new partner, a promise to his wife to quit smoking, and the most baffling case of his career—a murder investigation. The victim, Robert Lauria, was practically a hermit and was dead ten days before anyone found him. Fired from his job as a shoe salesman weeks ago, he rarely left his apartment and had no visitors except his cousin, who says she hardly knew him. So who strangled him late one night as he made tea in his kitchen? And could there be a connection to the headline-grabbing murder of a Broadway producer a day earlier? Armed with more street smarts than the FBI agents assigned to the more glamorous case, Rizzo and his new partner, Priscilla Jackson, are tasked with navigating the twin labyrinths of the case and NYPD politics in order to find the killer and bring him to justice. Full of the sounds and sights of walking the beat in Bensonhurst, Rizzo's Fire comes on the heels of Lou Manfredo's acclaimed debut, Rizzo's War, and brings the streets of Brooklyn to life in a way that no New York City crime novel has before. Rizzo's Fire is a Kirkus Reviews Best of 2011 Mysteries title.
Download or read book Countless Joys written by Devaney Rae and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2015-05-28 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You can discover many simple joys in life to be thankful for, no matter how you feel or how many tears fall from your eyes today. How can it be, I asked myself, that at thirty-eight years of age Im watching all of my dreams crash into a giant brick wall? How will those I love the most deal with this news? What about our plans for continuing to do the work of the Lord? How will we finish the business plan that we have in full motion? Maybe the other ovary is okay, and I will still be able to have my first child before this gets really crazy. All of these life-impacting questions assaulted my mind. I felt a strong arm around my waist and heard my doctors voice say, Devaney, are you okay; can you hear me? The entire experience was like watching a horror movie programmed on fast forward. But at some point, a massive wave of calmness sweetly enveloped me like a thick fog, and it calmed the raging sea. Time came to a screeching halt and the issues of life, love, and relationships were narrowed to those that held eternal value. Many years after that fateful day of my cancer diagnosis in 2002, I can now say with assurance that I am an ordinary girl, but with an extraordinary calling and life in Christ. I have experienced how God calls ordinary people (regular girls and guys) to do extraordinary things for Him. Not all extraordinary things are packaged in missionary work abroad or preaching the gospel. Some include a simple faith-filled walk of perseverance and strength through sudden and extended suffering and loss. In the callings of God, some of the greatest impacts for His kingdom are the people who are called into action and those who are affected because of the one who is simply persevering and enduring. Heaven surely holds the treasures of each of these beautiful overcoming life works. I am thankful and blessed to have been called to walk in a small portion of His field. And so are you whether you see it clearly today, or not. Be inspired to relentlessly pursue joy Beyond the Place of Your Tears.
Download or read book Ending the War Between Humanity and Nature written by Patrick C. Lee and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2020-08-19 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers plausible explanations for people’s puzzling unwillingness to address the human-nature interactions that have led us to the precipice that is climate change today. Humanity and nature are at war; the evidence is all around us: catastrophic weather events, rising sea levels, extinction of species, famine, wildfires, melting polar ice, millions of environmental refugees, and toxic pollution of air, water, and soil. The list goes on and on. What is causing this war, and how can it be stopped? Is this war an unintended consequence of economic and environmental imperatives pulling in opposite directions? This book takes the question—and its answer—to a deeper level. It argues that the root cause of our war on nature might be found in the time-honored, historically deep myths, narratives and stories we tell ourselves—and have been telling ourselves for centuries—about humanity’s place in (or out of) the natural world.

Download or read book Restoring America s Wildlife 1937 1987 written by Harmon Kallman and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fittingly, the Act's chief sponsors were a Senator from Nevada, Key Pittman, and a Representative from Virginia, A. Willis Robertson. The Pittman-Robertson Act, as it came to be called, sped through Congress and was signed into law by President Franklin Roosevelt on September 2, 1937. From a modest beginning, the Pittman-Robertson program has grown with the economy and the human population of our country. By now it has channeled nearly $1.7 billion in Federal excise tax receipts, augmented by some $600 million from the States, into activities to restore wildlife. The projects include State acquisition of acreage needed to bring wildlife back, research into wildlife requirements and problems, active management of habitats, and development of scientific ways to enable wildlife and people to share our land in harmony. The program has strengthened State governments and built wildlife management into a respected profession.
