The edition proved inadequate to meet the requests for copies that came from different parts of the State. This new edition, which includes an index to the list of names of Maine officers and soldiers at Valley Forge now added, is published under an Act of the Legislature of 1909, granting the State Historian authority to expend, under the direction of the Governor and Council, in the publication of historical matter and data relating to the State of Maine, any portion of the money appropriated for the expenses of the State Historian. Here, amid the rolling hills of southeastern Pennsylvania, visitors can pass through the house which served as Washington's Headquarters during the famous winter encampment of 1777-1778. Others picnic and jog in the huge park, complete with monuments, recreated log huts, and modern visitor center, all built to pay tribute to the Valley Forge story.
