Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This richly illustrated book offers a concise overview of the geology of Egypt in the context of the geology of the Arab Region and Northeast Africa. An introductory chapter on history of geological research in Egypt sheds much light on the stages before and after the establishment of Egyptian Geological Survey (the second oldest geological survey worldwide), Hume's book and Said's 1962, 1990 books. The book starts with the Precambrian geology of Egypt, in terms of lithostratigraphy and classifications, structural and tectonic framework, crustal evolution and metamorphic belts. A dedicated chapter discusses the Paleozoic-Mesozoic-Cenozoic tectonics and structural evolution of Egypt. A chapter highlights the Red Sea tectonics and the Gulf of Suez and Gulf of Aqaba Rifts. Subsequent chapters address the Phanerozoic geology from Paleozoic to Quaternary. The Egyptian Impact Crater(s) and Meteorites are dealt with in a separate chapter. The Earth resources in Egypt, including metallic and non-metallic ore deposits, hydrocarbon and water resources, are given much more attention throughout four chapters. The last chapter addresses the seismicity, seismotectonics and neotectonics of Egypt.

It is intended both for academic researchers and especially for exploration geologists interested in mineral exploration in the northern part of the African continent. Recent changes in the mining laws of most countries in this region have encouraged international mining companies to invest in local mineral industries. Accordingly, this volume will be very useful for these professionals, as well as for researchers in the field of economic geology.

Book The Geology of the Egyptian Nubian Shield

Download or read book The Geology of the Egyptian Nubian Shield written by Zakaria Hamimi and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-09-29 with total page 700 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This richly illustrated book provides an overview of the Neoproterozoic Pan-African Belt of Egypt (PABE), which represents the northwestern continuation of the Arabian-Nubian Shield (ANS) and the East African Orogen (EAO). The first chapter offers an introduction to the Turin Papyrus Map and the historical background of the PABE, while the second addresses how the PABE is related to the ANS and EAO. Rock succession of the PABE is dealt with in Chapter 3, while Chapter 4 focuses on Sinai Metamorphic Core Complexes and implications on the break-up of Rodinia. Subsequent chapters discuss a broad range of topics, e.g. ophiolite-dominated suprastructural rocks; volcanosedimentary succession, Neoproterozoic volcanism and volcanic rocks in Egypt; enigmatic issues concerning granite, Dokhan and Hammamat sediments; the lithospheric mantle beneath the Northeast African continent and the mantle section of Neoproterozoic ophiolites from the PABE; sutures, megashears and petrogenetic evolution of the Neoproterozoic rocks of Egypt; and metallic and non-metallic mineral deposits in the PABE, which are covered in extensive detail. The book’s closing chapters discuss the application of remote sensing techniques and anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility (AMS) to decipher the tectonic evolution of the PABE, as well as the use of geophysical data to map structural features and hydrothermal alteration zones in the PABE.

Book Report on the Mineral Industry of Egypt 1928

Download or read book Report on the Mineral Industry of Egypt 1928 written by Egypt; Maṣlaḥat Al-Manājim Wa-Al-Maḥājir and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-17 with total page 63 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Report on the Mineral Industry of Egypt, 1928 The area of Egypt is approximately 1,000,000 square kilometres, of which 31,000 square kilometres comprise the cultivated area of the Delta and Valley of the River Nile. The remainder, no less than 969,000, square kilometres, is desert, for the most part waterless and devoid of vegetation. This desert area has no economic importance at the present day other than its mineral resources. The known mineral deposits are few in comparison with the vastness of the desert area, but much of this is as yet practically unprospected and there is the probability of further discoveries being made. These known deposits are mostly situated at great distances both from one another and from the River Nile, a fact which has retarded exploration and development. Considerable progress has, however, been made during recent years, notably on the coast of the Red Sea and Gulf of Suez. The sea affords the necessary facilities of access and transport, the lack of which so greatly detracts from the value of deposits situated in the interior. Local interest in mining is small; this is owing to the fact that the population of Egypt is almost entirely engaged in agricultural pursuits and has no knowledge or experience of mining. The capital and organization of existing enterprises has, in consequence, been mainly supplied by foreigners. The following chapters describe the various minerals, metals and precious stones which are found in Egypt and give details of the progress made in developing them. The value of the mineral production for the year 1921 was approximately L.E. 1,300,000. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Gold and Gold Mining in Ancient Egypt and Nubia

Download or read book Gold and Gold Mining in Ancient Egypt and Nubia written by Rosemarie Klemm and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-13 with total page 664 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book presents the historical evolution of gold mining activities in the Egyptian and Nubian Desert (Sudan) from about 4000 BC until the Early Islamic Period (~800–1350 AD), subdivided into the main classical epochs including the Early Dynastic – Old and Middle Kingdoms – New Kingdom (including Kushitic) – Ptolemaic – Roman and Early Islamic. It is illustrated with many informative colour images, maps and drawings. An up to date comprehensive geological introduction gives a general overview on the gold production zones in the Eastern Desert of Egypt and northern (Nubian) Sudan, including the various formation processes of the gold bearing quartz veins mined in these ancient periods. The more than 250 gold production sites presented, are described both, from their archaeological (as far as surface inventory is concerned) and geological environmental conditions, resulting in an evolution scheme of prospection and mining methods within the main periods of mining activities. The book offers for the first time a complete catalogue of the many gold production sites in Egypt and Nubia under geological and archaeological aspects. It provides information about the importance of gold for the Pharaohs and the spectacular gold rush in Early Arab times.
