Book excerpt: This book gives a comprehensive view of the most recent major international research in the field of tolerancing, and is an excellent resource for anyone interested in Computer Aided Tolerating. It is organized into 4 parts. Part 1 focuses on the more general problems of tolerance analysis and synthesis, for tolerancing in mechanical design and manufacturing processes. Part 2 specifically highlights the simulation of assembly with defects, and the influence of tolerances on the quality of the assembly. Part 3 deals with measurement aspects, and quality control throughout the life cycle. Different measurement technologies and methods for estimating uncertainty are considered. In Part 4, different aspects of tolerancing and their interactions are explored, from the definition of functional requirement to measurement processes in a PLM approach.

Book Computing in Object Oriented Parallel Environments

Download or read book Computing in Object Oriented Parallel Environments written by Denis Caromel and published by Springer. This book was released on 1998-11-25 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the Proceedings of the International Symposium on C- puting in Object-Oriented Parallel Environments (ISCOPE ’98), held at Santa 1 Fe, New Mexico, USA on December 8{11, 1998. ISCOPE is in its second year, and continues to grow both in attendance and in the diversity of the subjects covered. ISCOPE’97 and its predecessor conferences focused more narrowly on scienti c computing in the high-performance arena. ISCOPE ’98 retains this emphasis, but has broadened to include discrete-event simulation, mobile c- puting, and web-based metacomputing. The ISCOPE ’98 Program Committee received 39 submissions, and acc- ted 10 (26%) as Regular Papers, based on their excellent content, maturity of development, and likelihood for widespread interest. These 10 are divided into three technical categories. Applications: The rst paper describes an approach to simulating advanced nuclear power reactor designs that incorporates multiple local solution - thods and a natural extension to parallel execution. The second paper disc- ses a Time Warp simulation kernel that is highly con gurable and portable. The third gives an account of the development of software for simulating high-intensity charged particle beams in linear particle accelerators, based on the POOMA framework, that shows performance considerably better than an HPF version, along with good parallel speedup.

Book Numerical Methods for Partial Differential Equations

Download or read book Numerical Methods for Partial Differential Equations written by Sandip Mazumder and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2015-12-01 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerical Methods for Partial Differential Equations: Finite Difference and Finite Volume Methods focuses on two popular deterministic methods for solving partial differential equations (PDEs), namely finite difference and finite volume methods. The solution of PDEs can be very challenging, depending on the type of equation, the number of independent variables, the boundary, and initial conditions, and other factors. These two methods have been traditionally used to solve problems involving fluid flow. For practical reasons, the finite element method, used more often for solving problems in solid mechanics, and covered extensively in various other texts, has been excluded. The book is intended for beginning graduate students and early career professionals, although advanced undergraduate students may find it equally useful. The material is meant to serve as a prerequisite for students who might go on to take additional courses in computational mechanics, computational fluid dynamics, or computational electromagnetics. The notations, language, and technical jargon used in the book can be easily understood by scientists and engineers who may not have had graduate-level applied mathematics or computer science courses. - Presents one of the few available resources that comprehensively describes and demonstrates the finite volume method for unstructured mesh used frequently by practicing code developers in industry - Includes step-by-step algorithms and code snippets in each chapter that enables the reader to make the transition from equations on the page to working codes - Includes 51 worked out examples that comprehensively demonstrate important mathematical steps, algorithms, and coding practices required to numerically solve PDEs, as well as how to interpret the results from both physical and mathematic perspectives

Book Enhanced Abutment Scour Studies for Compound Channels

Download or read book Enhanced Abutment Scour Studies for Compound Channels written by Terry W. Sturm and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2004 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental results and analyses are given in this report on bridge abutment scour in compound channels. Experiments were conducted in a laboratory flume with a cross section consisting of a wide floodplain adjacent to a main channel. The embankment length, discharge, sediment size, and abutment shape were varied, and the resulting equilibrium scour depths were measured. Water-surface profiles, velocities, and scour-hole contours were also measured. In the report, a methodology is developed for estimating abutment scour that takes into account the redistribution of discharge in the bridge contraction, abutment shape, sediment size, and tailwater depth. The independant variables in the proposed scour formula are evaluated at the approach-channel cross section and can be obtained froma one-dimensional water-surface profile computer program such as the Water-Surface Profile Program (WSPRO). The proposed scour evaluation procedure is outlined and illustrated, including consideration of the time required to reach equilibrium scour. The proposed methodology is applied to two cases of measured scour in the field.
