Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of research and review papers addresses the question of structural evolution during deformation to high strains and the physical properties of rocks that have been affected by high-strain zones. The discussions range from natural examples at outcrop to microscopic studies. They include experiments and numerical models based on the active processes in high-strain zones as well as studies on the physical properties of highly strained rocks in the field and laboratory. Specific questions addressed include magnetotelluric imaging of faults, magnetic fabrics, fabric development, seismic properties of highly strained rocks, change of rheology with strain, influence of melt on the localization of deformation, the relationship between deformation and metamorphism as well as new methods in the analysis of deformation. The book is aimed at an interdisciplinary group of readers interested in the effects of high strain in rocks.

Book excerpt: This illustrated report is published annually to furnish estimates covering nonfuel mineral industry data. Data sheets contain information on the domestic industry structure, Government programs, tariffs, and 5-year salient statistics for more than 90 individual minerals and materials. Each chapter includes information on events, trends, and issues for each mineral commodity, as well as discussions and tabular presentations on domestic industry structure. Maps, charts, presentations, tables, and graphs are included throughout this text. Geoscientists, petroleum engineers, global community traders, construction industry engineering executives soil scientists, miners, economists, trade brokers specializing in mineral commodities and imports/exports, mineral manufacturers, statistical professionals, and American citizens may be interested in this updated historical reference. Students pursuing coursework for a Bachelor of Science or advanced degree in environmental science, geosciences, or geology may be interested in this volume for research. It is highly recommended that academic libraries with geology and mining engineering programs, special libraries within these fields, and public libraries place an updated annual copy of this primary source work in their business/economic and reference collections. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scientific analyses of the geology, metallogeny, and mineralization of gold, silver and other high-value elements in the western USATechnical details on working mines, exploration results, new depositsPresentations produced with the United States Geological Survey, Society of Economic GeologistsTwo-volume book set printed in full color with full-text searchable CD-ROM Produced under the auspices of the Geological Society of Nevada and published every five years, this two-volume book of peer-reviewed papers focuses on the geological analysis of ore-rich deposits in the western United States, especially ones containing gold and other high-value elements. Hundreds of stratigraphic, lithographic, remote-sensing and core sample examples are presented, particularly of areas likely to host Carlin-type gold deposits. The two volumes contain a wealth of data on specifically named mines, as well as technical information on high-potential areas for exploration. The book is profusely illustrated with full-color maps, photographs and charts for geology and mining engineering. A searchable CD accompanies the book and includes the full text of papers from the printed book, as well as abstracts and information from poster sessions not found in the printed book. Chapters in the text are fully refereed versions of presentations originally delivered at a symposium supported by the Geological Society of Nevada, along with the United States Geological Survey, Society of Economic Geologists and the Nevada Bureau of Mines. Sample key words: metallogeny, gold, epithermal ore, magmatism, Carlin trend, square array void mapping (SAVM), porphyry copper, tungsten, orogeny, lithogeochemistry, 3-D resistivity and modeling, fault-surface mapping, airborne electromagnetics and more. *The CD-ROM displays figures and illustrations in articles in full color along with a title screen and main menu screen. Each user can link to all papers from the Table of Contents and Author Index and also link to papers and front matter by using the global bookmarks which allow navigation of the entire CD-ROM from every article. Search features on the CD-ROM can be by full text including all key words, article title, author name, and session title. The CD-ROM has Autorun feature for Windows 2000 or higher products and can also be used with Macintosh computers. The CD includes the program for Adobe Acrobat Reader with Search 11.0. Book Tectonic Growth of a Collisional Continental Margin

Download or read book Tectonic Growth of a Collisional Continental Margin written by Kenneth D. Ridgway and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 2007 with total page 676 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The convergent margin of southern Alaska is considered one of the type areas for understanding the growth of continental margins through collisional tectonic processes. Collisional processes that formed this margin were responsible for multiple episodes of sedimentary basin development, subduction complex growth, magmatism, and deformation. Two main collisional episodes shaped this Mesozoic-Cenozoic continental margin. The first event was the Mesozoic collision of the allochthonous Wrangellia composite terrane. This event represents the largest addition of juvenile crust to western North America in the past 100 m.y. The second event is the ongoing collision of the Yakutat terrane along the southeastern margin of Alaska. This Cenozoic event has produced the highest coast mountain range on Earth (Saint Elias Mountains), the Wrangell continental arc, and sedimentary basins throughout southern Alaska. Active collisional processes continue to shape the southern margin of Alaska, mainly through crustal shortening and strike-slip deformation, large-magnitude earthquakes, and rapid uplift and exhumation of mountain belts and high sedimentation rates in adjacent sedimentary basins. This volume contains 24 articles that integrate new geophysical and geologic data, including many field-based studies, to better link the sedimentary, structural, geochemical, and magmatic processes that are important for understanding the development of collisional continental margins."--Publisher's website.

Book New Perspectives on Rio Grande Rift Basins From Tectonics to Groundwater

Download or read book New Perspectives on Rio Grande Rift Basins From Tectonics to Groundwater written by Mark R. Hudson and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 2013-01-01 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Extending from Colorado, USA, on the north to the state of Chihuahua, Mexico, on the south, the Rio Grande rift divides the Colorado Plateau on the west from the interior of the North American craton on the east. This volume focuses on the Rio Grande rift's upper crustal basins and is organized geographically with study areas progressing from north to south. Nineteen chapters cover a variety of topics, including sedimentation history, rift basin geometries and the influence of older structure on rift basin evolution, faulting and strain transfer within and among basins, relations of magmatism to rift tectonism, and basin hydrogeology"--Provided by publisher.
