Book Magical Albert

Download or read book Magical Albert written by Renata Lumsden and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2020-08-18 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When an unexpected medical miracle allows both a champion racing mare and her preemie colt to survive a critical emergency, their owners, Dave and Renata Lumsden, can only hold their breath as they watch the foal grow. Dave is optimistic, but science-minded Renata worries the colt’s preemie-related challenges will return to haunt him. If Albert can’t make it as a racehorse, what kind of future does he face? And, with his mother Lusi's broodmare career cut short by the surgery that saved her life, what’s in store for her? Seeking answers to these questions, Dave and Renata embark on a sometimes heartbreaking, often exhilarating, but always unpredictable journey that challenges them and their horses in startling ways. And when Renata finally opens her heart and mind beyond science, these four-legged creatures and the lessons they inspire will lead her and Dave to a whole new, and ultimately healing, concept of family.

Book Encyclopedia of Occult Scienses vol VI Second Part The Magical Sciences Low Magic

Download or read book Encyclopedia of Occult Scienses vol VI Second Part The Magical Sciences Low Magic written by Poinsot, Maffeo and published by Aegitas. This book was released on 2015-10-07 with total page 93 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It follows from this phenomenon (tested hundreds of times) that every thing may carry around it an invisibly written history. The same thing applies to the human being. Every one of us carries around him a radiance invisible to the human eye, but perceptible to the trained mind. Inscribed in this radiance in the shape of pictures are the most important results of our thoughts and our actions. In accordance with Tradition this radiance is termed the aura, and there is an aura for every principle. Thus there will be an aura of the physical body, of very small extent, an aura of the astral body, an aura of the mind. It is this last which was recognised by religious tradition surrounding the heads of saints and divinities with halos. It is thanks to this radiance of the three principles of the human being that we can explain many seemingly strange phenomena, such as sudden sympathies or antipathies, intuitions, and so-called unconscious previsions, etc. Clairvoyance is also produced, as we have said, by means of a special magnetised condenser of the astral plane termed the Magic Mirror, of which our author speaks in connection with the Arsenal of Magic, just, as he speaks of the visions seen in coffee grounds in the chapter dealing with divinations of the second degree. And I quite understand the reserve which he shews here ; but perhaps he ought to have dealt separately at least with the psychometry which has been tested by experiments. Our author, it is felt, gives but a limited belief to these divinations of the second degree. Yet he describes conscientiously, not the hundreds of ancient methods which are nearly forgotten, but those of the Kabbala (such as onomancy, taromancy) and also the oracles, the prophecies which prove that the secret influences of this radiance govern many of our states of mind.

Seventeen-year-old Alice and her mother have spent most of Alice’s life on the road, always a step ahead of the uncanny bad luck biting at their heels. But when Alice’s grandmother, the reclusive author of a cult-classic book of pitch-dark fairy tales, dies alone on her estate, the Hazel Wood, Alice learns how bad her luck can really get: Her mother is stolen away—by a figure who claims to come from the Hinterland, the cruel supernatural world where her grandmother's stories are set. Alice's only lead is the message her mother left behind: “Stay away from the Hazel Wood.” Alice has long steered clear of her grandmother’s cultish fans. But now she has no choice but to ally with classmate Ellery Finch, a Hinterland superfan who may have his own reasons for wanting to help her. To retrieve her mother, Alice must venture first to the Hazel Wood, then into the world where her grandmother's tales began—and where she might find out how her own story went so wrong. Don’t miss the bestselling sequel to The Hazel Wood, The Night Country or the illustrated collection of twelve fairy tales, Tales from the Hinterland!

Book The Magic Worlds of Bernard Malamud

Download or read book The Magic Worlds of Bernard Malamud written by Evelyn Avery and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 2012-02-01 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the best literary tradition, Bernard Malamud uses the particular experiences of his subjects—Eastern European Jews, immigrant Americans, and urban African Americans—to express the universal. This book offers an exploration of this beloved American writer's fiction, which has won two National Book Awards and a Pulitzer Prize. In addition to the literary studies, personal recollections by son Paul Malamud, memoirs and portraits by good friends, colleagues, and fellow writers such as Cynthia Ozick, Daniel Stern, and Nicolas Delbanco illuminate Malamud's life and work. The contributors reveal that in an age that deconstructs, Malamud's voice does not. Instead, it speaks clearly and imaginatively with the weight of ancient traditions and the understanding of modern conditions.

Book excerpt: My name is Tara Knightley, and I’m on the Fae mafia’s hit list. My childhood crush just rode back into town, too, and that may spell even bigger trouble . . . My talent for sensing magical objects has made me a damn good professional thief for the past decade. But it’s also what got me into a blood oath with notorious Fae mob boss Grant Shaw. My relationship with Shaw is rapidly souring, and I need to break free before it turns deadly. The solution? I must steal a magic skull from Shaw’s biggest rival and deliver it to him, and then he’ll nullify our blood oath. Just as I’m set to go after the skull, my childhood best friend and crush, wolf shifter Judah McMahon, shows up asking for help. It’s been ten years since the falling out that ended our friendship, and I know I shouldn’t get involved. But Judah’s life is threatened. How can I say no? The catch is, helping Judah will cost me the chance at freedom from Shaw . . . and possibly my life. Edge of Magic by Jayne Faith is perfect for fans of Kim Harrison, Kevin Hearne, Seanan McGuire, Patricia Briggs, Keri Arthur, Ella Summers, and Shannon Mayer. The Tara Knightley Series features action, magic, vivid world-building, a mystery involving Fae bloodlines, and a shifter-Fae romance subplot. Book The Metamorphosis of Magic from Late Antiquity to the Early Modern Period

Download or read book The Metamorphosis of Magic from Late Antiquity to the Early Modern Period written by Jan N. Bremmer and published by Peeters Publishers. This book was released on 2002 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Deities, demons, and angels became important protagonists in the magic of the Late Antique world, and were also the main reasons for the condemnation of magic in the Christian era. Supplicatory incantations, rituals of coercion, enticing suffumigations, magical prayers and mystical songs drew spiritual powers to the humain domain. Next to the magician's desire to regulate fate and fortune, it was the communion with the spirit world that gave magic the potential to purify and even deify its practitioners. The sense of elation and the awareness of a metaphysical order caused magic to merge with philosophy (notably Neoplatonism). The heritage of Late Antique theurgy would be passed on to the Arab world, and together with classical science and learning would take root again in the Latin West in the High Middle Ages. The metamorphosis of magic laid out in this book is the transformation of ritual into occult philosophy against the background of cultural changes in Judaism, Graeco-Roman religion and Christianity. This volume, the first in the new series Groningen Studies in Cultural Change, offers the papers presented at the workshop The Metamorphosis of Magic from Late Antiquity to the Early Modern Period held from 22 to 24 June 2000, and organised by Jan N. Bremmer and Jan R. Veenstra. The papers have been written by scholars from such varying disciplines as classics, theology, philosophy, cultural history, and law. Their contributions shed new light upon several old obscurities; they show magic to be a significant area of culture, and they advance the case for viewing transformations in the lore and practice of magic as a barometer with which to measure cultural change.
