Book Advanced Macroeconomics

Download or read book Advanced Macroeconomics written by Filipe R. Campante and published by LSE Press. This book was released on 2021-10-11 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Macroeconomic policy is one of the most important policy domains, and the tools of macroeconomics are among the most valuable for policy makers. Yet there has been, up to now, a wide gulf between the level at which macroeconomics is taught at the undergraduate level and the level at which it is practiced. At the same time, doctoral-level textbooks are usually not targeted at a policy audience, making advanced macroeconomics less accessible to current and aspiring practitioners. This book, born out of the Masters course the authors taught for many years at the Harvard Kennedy School, fills this gap. It introduces the tools of dynamic optimization in the context of economic growth, and then applies them to a wide range of policy questions – ranging from pensions, consumption, investment and finance, to the most recent developments in fiscal and monetary policy. It does so with the requisite rigor, but also with a light touch, and an unyielding focus on their application to policy-making, as befits the authors’ own practical experience. Advanced Macroeconomics: An Easy Guide is bound to become a great resource for graduate and advanced undergraduate students, and practitioners alike.

Book Foundations of International Macroeconomics

Download or read book Foundations of International Macroeconomics written by Maurice Obstfeld and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 1996-09-12 with total page 830 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Foundations of International Macroeconomics is an innovative text that offers the first integrative modern treatment of the core issues in open economy macroeconomics and finance. With its clear and accessible style, it is suitable for first-year graduate macroeconomics courses as well as graduate courses in international macroeconomics and finance. Each chapter incorporates an extensive and eclectic array of empirical evidence. For the beginning student, these examples provide motivation and aid in understanding the practical value of the economic models developed. For advanced researchers, they highlight key insights and conundrums in the field. Topic coverage includes intertemporal consumption and investment theory, government spending and budget deficits, finance theory and asset pricing, the implications of (and problems inherent in) international capital market integration, growth, inflation and seignorage, policy credibility, real and nominal exchange rate determination, and many interesting special topics such as speculative attacks, target exchange rate zones, and parallels between immigration and capital mobility. Most main results are derived both for the small country and world economy cases. The first seven chapters cover models of the real economy, while the final three chapters incorporate the economy's monetary side, including an innovative approach to bridging the usual chasm between real and monetary models.

Book Macroeconomics for Professionals Students and Investors

Download or read book Macroeconomics for Professionals Students and Investors written by Sher Mehta and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2015-05-08 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Macroeconomics: Vocational Education Series This book provides a practical and non-technical foundation in macroeconomics and is for professionals, students and investors across the globe who wish to comprehend or 'make sense' of the rapidly changing economic environment and economic factors driving such change. The distinguishing feature or aspect of this book is that it focuses primarily on economic issues related to the short run, rather than on long run economic growth and development. This is because professionals, students and investors across the globe are usually most affected or impacted by rapid changes in the economic environment, short-run fluctuations in economic activity in their respective economies and the global economy, day-to-day economic developments and rising economic instability (which is being reflected in more volatile growth rates, inflation rates, exchange rates and interest rates in the short run). After completing this book, you should be able to perform an intelligent analysis of the economic environment (in developed and developing economies and the global economy) and rapid changes in the same. No knowledge of mathematics or statistics is required to understand this book.

Book Macroeconomic Foundations of Macroeconomics

Download or read book Macroeconomic Foundations of Macroeconomics written by Alvaro Cencini and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-10-12 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contrary to common belief, macroeconomics is not merely a theory of aggregates, and cannot be constructed from individual behaviour. Both nationally and internationally, there are economic laws that are logically independent of economic agents’ behaviour. These are the macroeconomic foundations of macroeconomics. Presenting cutting-edge material, Alvaro Cencini explores these foundations, and shows that the introduction of money entails economics being interpreted conceptually not mathematically. His innovative book provides the elements for a new approach by applying the most recent results of monetary analysis to the study of national and international economics. It covers recent progress in monetary theory, provides the reader with a greater understanding of the subject, and will be essential reading for economic students as well as a valuable resource for economists.

Book Interest and Prices

Download or read book Interest and Prices written by Michael Woodford and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2011-12-12 with total page 805 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the collapse of the Bretton Woods system, any pretense of a connection of the world's currencies to any real commodity has been abandoned. Yet since the 1980s, most central banks have abandoned money-growth targets as practical guidelines for monetary policy as well. How then can pure "fiat" currencies be managed so as to create confidence in the stability of national units of account? Interest and Prices seeks to provide theoretical foundations for a rule-based approach to monetary policy suitable for a world of instant communications and ever more efficient financial markets. In such a world, effective monetary policy requires that central banks construct a conscious and articulate account of what they are doing. Michael Woodford reexamines the foundations of monetary economics, and shows how interest-rate policy can be used to achieve an inflation target in the absence of either commodity backing or control of a monetary aggregate. The book further shows how the tools of modern macroeconomic theory can be used to design an optimal inflation-targeting regime--one that balances stabilization goals with the pursuit of price stability in a way that is grounded in an explicit welfare analysis, and that takes account of the "New Classical" critique of traditional policy evaluation exercises. It thus argues that rule-based policymaking need not mean adherence to a rigid framework unrelated to stabilization objectives for the sake of credibility, while at the same time showing the advantages of rule-based over purely discretionary policymaking.
