Book Economic Progress and Growth

Download or read book Economic Progress and Growth written by H.M. Scobie and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-07 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume puts forward a group of models applied to different economies, capturing the progress and growth of their economic systems. The models provide a quantified framework for the formulation of economic policy. They aid the introduction of targets and policy instruments taking account of constraints in the process of development. Also, an evaluation of external and internal shocks is taken using a comparative static type of analysis. The models take into account constraints which are in the nature of institutional as well as supply constraints. Problems of data exist in any quantitative analysis and account was taken of this factor in presenting the models and the results reached. Nonetheless, the models attempt to specify, estimate and simulate a given macroeconomic system. Models of this type are not freely available to the interested reader, but only in a fragmented way. This book puts the efforts of a group of economists worldwide under one cover. It is believed that the collection will be of interest both for courses in planning and for those adviSing these countries such as international organizations, research bodies, etc. Moreover, an overview of trade policy and income distributional factors is presented. It is hoped that this collection will prove interesting and useful to economists world wide.

Book A Basic Needs Policy Model

Download or read book A Basic Needs Policy Model written by A. Kouwenaar and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 427 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using recent research on Ecuador, this book discusses a social accounting matrix (SAM)-based model for simulating the effects of basic needs policies on various socio-economic groups. Specific parameter choice and specification of relationships allow the general equilibrium model to capture rigidities and occurrences of non-perfect commodity and factor markets. Basic needs satisfaction is described as an ``output'' resulting from income formation and expenditure, and dynamically linked to the structural processes of household and socio-economic group formation, formation of the labour force and wealth, and labour productivity. Simulations concentrate on the effects of various expenditure, indirect tax and redistributive policies on incomes and basic needs satisfaction.

Book Macroeconomic Effects of Efficiency Pricing in the Public Sector in Egypt

Download or read book Macroeconomic Effects of Efficiency Pricing in the Public Sector in Egypt written by Sadiq Ahmed and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper presents an economy-wide framework, called MISR2, that provides a general equilibrium evaluation of these costs & hence of distortions. (MISR is the Arabic name for Egypt. MISR2 is a more disaggregated & technically advanced follow-up to MISR1, which is a very simple aggregative model using the Transaction Value (TV) approach.) The MISR2 framework is designed to analyze the short- to medium-term macroeconomic consequences of policies aimed at minimizing the costs of the misallocation & distortions. The framework was used to analyze two sets of policy interventions: (1) adjustments of regulated prices & quantities within the same policy regime, that is, with the regulated variables remaining controlled; & (2) adjustments in the policy regime itself, an approach that implies freeing controlled prices & quantities & letting market forces determine them. In MISR2 the focus is on four areas of economic intervention: (1) pricing of output in the public sector, (2) employment & wage policy in the public sector, (3) the trade & exchange rates. rate regime; & (4) rationing & subsidization as relates to households. In this paper, MISR2 is used mainly to analyze the effects of adjustments in public sector prices & in the regimes governing trade & exchange rates.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Commodity markets are of considerable interest and importance to economists, econometricians and dealers. This book reports the proceedings of an international conference on 'Primary Commodity Prices: Economic Models and Policy', held in London under the auspices of the Centre for Economic Policy Research in March 1989. A range of papers by leading international authorities covers topics such as expectations formation in econometric commodity market models; price determination in the market for aluminium; the estimation of dynamic disequilibrium models with rational expectations; and a comparison of forward markets and buffer stocks as commodity earnings stabilizers. A key feature of this stock is its development of the policy implications of theoretical and empirical work in the field of commodity economics. Most papers are accompanied by discussant's comments to draw out their technical and policy implications. The book's readership will include commodity economists, commodity market practitioners and policy analysis, as well as professionals and advanced students interested in the fields of applied econometrics, economic development and international trade.
