Book Maclean Clan Highland Romance

Download or read book Maclean Clan Highland Romance written by Fiona Grant and published by Blue Gem Publishing. This book was released on 2017-12-26 with total page 494 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE MACLEAN CLAN HIGHLAND ROMANCE - BOXED SET (Series 1) Five stories of deep and abiding love that see our Scottish Highlanders and their feisty women fighting for a happy ending. Book 1: The Highlander’s Braw Lass “That wildcat in the Chisholm clan,” is the way most people describe Mairi Chisholm. Her mother despairs of her, and her father, tired of her rejection of one suitable match after another, finally presents her with an ultimatum: Marry Alastair Maclean or spend the rest of her life in the priory. Book 2: The Highlander’s Defiant Bride Rhona Maclean dreams of being swept off her feet by a highlands hero: a man who is handsome, strong and brave and loves her more than life itself. Those dreams collapse into ashes when she is stolen from her home one dark night and delivered into the hands of a Calum Stewart, a warrior from a rival clan who has long planned his revenge on the Macleans for the murder of his beloved sister and his brother. Book 3: The Highlander’s Stolen Love When Caitriona’s parents tell her that Duncan, her first and only love, has been so badly injured in battle that he cannot be a husband to any woman, she resigns herself to marriage with a cruel Laird, Cormag MacPherson. Duncan, still recovering from his war injuries, is stunned to discover that Caitriona needs him desperately. Fighting against almost insurmountable odds, Duncan sets out to rescue his stolen love. Book 4: The Highlander’s Huntress Finlay MacGregor’s friend Malcolm Campbell challenges him to a wager—and when Finlay loses, he finds that his task is to escort Malcolm’s headstrong sister, Isla, on one last hunting trip before she has to face the distasteful task of choosing a suitor. All does not go as planned—and after an accident, Finlay is forced to recuperate in the Campbell keep, with Isla as his unwilling nurse. Although both feel the flames of attraction, neither wants to give up their treasured independence… Book 5: The Highlander’s Challenge Hamish Maclean has overcome many challenges in his life, but none so difficult as the one that faces him now: how to win the trust of a woman who has borne too much mistreatment in her life. Jessie Gunn trusts no man—and has good reasons for feeling that way. She feels safe at last in the service of her beloved mistress Caitriona, protected in the Maclean keep. She has no plans to give herself in marriage… until disaster strikes and war between clans threatens if she does not.

Book A River Runs through It and Other Stories

Download or read book A River Runs through It and Other Stories written by Norman MacLean and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2017-05-03 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The New York Times–bestselling classic set amid the mountains and streams of early twentieth-century Montana, “as beautiful as anything in Thoreau or Hemingway” (Chicago Tribune). When Norman Maclean sent the manuscript of A River Runs Through It and Other Stories to New York publishers, he received a slew of rejections. One editor, so the story goes, replied, “it has trees in it.” Today, the title novella is recognized as one of the great American tales of the twentieth century, and Maclean as one of the most beloved writers of our time. The finely distilled product of a long life of often surprising rapture—for fly-fishing, for the woods, for the interlocked beauty of life and art—A River Runs Through It has established itself as a classic of the American West filled with beautiful prose and understated emotional insights. Based on Maclean’s own experiences as a young man, the book’s two novellas and short story are set in the small towns and mountains of western Montana. It is a world populated with drunks, loggers, card sharks, and whores, but also one rich in the pleasures of fly-fishing, logging, cribbage, and family. By turns raunchy and elegiac, these superb tales express, in Maclean’s own words, “a little of the love I have for the earth as it goes by.” “Maclean’s book—acerbic, laconic, deadpan—rings out of a rich American tradition that includes Mark Twain, Kin Hubbard, Richard Bissell, Jean Shepherd, and Nelson Algren.” —New York Times Book Review Includes a new foreword by Robert Redford, director of the Academy Award–winning film adaptation

Download or read book The Genealogy of the Clan MacLean written by Ronald Wayne Collins and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-03-02 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the genealogy of the Clan MacLean from its beginning to the early part of the 20th century. This is the first work to try and reconcile all of the sources for MacLean genealogy, and to include, besides the lines of the Chiefs, collateral branches as they spread throughout the world. Included are some histories of the origins of the Clan as scholars in the ancient Kingdom of Dalriada, and long before they dominated the Isle of Mull they were the Lords of Knapdale. Unexpectedly, the disaster that was the Black Plague actually was a benefit to the growth of the power and prestige of the Clan. This work contains brief histories of pivotal Clan events. For example, the Clan fought at Inverkeithing and was decimated to the point that they could not protect their homeland of Mull. The Clan fought on the losing side for Bonny Prince Charlie. The result of these two events was the MacLean Diaspora that sent Clan members throughout the world. A complicating factor for all who attempt a MacLean genealogy is that inter-clan marriages were the norm, rather than the exception. There were many MacLean chieftains, that were sub-chiefs under the Chief MacLean of Duart or Lochbuie, that owned or controlled property stretching from Inverness, down throughout the Great Glen, Mull, Tiree, Coll, Muck, and many smaller islands off the western shore of Scotland. These chieftains can all be trace back to various Chiefs of Duart or Lochbuie. The families of those chieftains intermarried on a regular basis. The research for this book has made it obvious that the MacLeans, MacDonalds, Campbells, McLeods and Stewart clans are very intermingled. You cannot be descended from one without being descended from them all. The MacLeans are descended from King Robert the Bruce of Scotland, and through him from much of British and French Royalty.

Book excerpt: “Beautiful. ... A lyrical companion to his father’s classic, A River Runs through It, chronicling their family’s history and bond with Montana’s Blackfoot River.” —Washington Post A "poetic" and "captivating" (Publishers Weekly) memoir about the power of place to shape generations, Home Waters is John N. Maclean's remarkable chronicle of his family's century-long love affair with Montana's majestic Blackfoot River, the setting for his father's classic novella, A River Runs through It. Maclean returns annually to the simple family cabin that his grandfather built by hand, still in search of the trout of a lifetime. When he hooks it at last, decades of longing promise to be fulfilled, inspiring John, reporter and author, to finally write the story he was born to tell. A book that will resonate with everyone who feels deeply rooted to a landscape, Home Waters is a portrait of a family who claimed a river, from one generation to the next, of how this family came of age in the 20th century and later as they scattered across the country, faced tragedy and success, yet were always drawn back to the waters that bound them together. Here are the true stories behind the beloved characters fictionalized in A River Runs through It, including the Reverend Maclean, the patriarch who introduced the family to fishing; Norman, who balanced a life divided between literature and the tug of the rugged West; and tragic yet luminous Paul (played by Brad Pitt in Robert Redford’s film adaptation), whose mysterious death has haunted the family and led John to investigate his uncle’s murder and reveal new details in these pages. A universal story about nature, family, and the art of fly fishing, Maclean’s memoir beautifully captures the inextricable ways our personal histories are linked to the places we come from—our home waters. Featuring twelve wood engravings by Wesley W. Bates and a map of the Blackfoot River region.

Book Percy Guthrie and The MacLean Kilties

Download or read book Percy Guthrie and The MacLean Kilties written by Paul E. Belliveau and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2016-06-30 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In June 1915, while lying in No. 2 Canadian Stationary Hospital in France recovering from multiple wounds received at the Battle of Festubert, Major Percy Guthrie heard the pipes and drums of a Scottish battalion as it passed on its way to the front and the idea of forming a kilted battalion in his home province of New Brunswick was conceived. This is the story of the political, military, and financial trials and tribulations Percy Guthrie had to overcome to form his all volunteer Highland Battalion in Fredericton, New Brunswick, which became affectionately known as the "MacLean Kilties". The book details Guthrie's innovative and imaginative clarion "call to arms" to all those with Scottish roots throughout Canada and in the American New England States. The story unfolds with the Kilties' transition from an untrained military unit in Fredericton to a highly skilled military battalion in Camp Seaford, England.
