These challenges underscore the intricate balance required to navigate the human psyche with accuracy. The book, Using Machine Learning to Detect Emotions and Predict Human Psychology, serves as a guide for innovative solutions in the field of emotion detection through AI. It explores facial expression analysis, where AI decodes real-time emotions through subtle cues such as eyebrow movements and micro-expressions. In speech and voice analysis, the book unveils how AI processes vocal nuances to discern emotions, considering elements like tone, pitch, and language intricacies. Additionally, the power of text analysis is of great importance, revealing how AI extracts emotional tones from diverse textual communications. By weaving these systems together, the book offers a holistic solution to the challenges faced by AI in understanding the complex landscape of human emotions.
Download or read book The Psychological Construction of Emotion written by Lisa Feldman Barrett and published by Guilford Publications. This book was released on 2014-10-29 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents cutting-edge theory and research on emotions as constructed events rather than fixed, essential entities. It provides a thorough introduction to the assumptions, hypotheses, and scientific methods that embody psychological constructionist approaches. Leading scholars examine the neurobiological, cognitive/perceptual, and social processes that give rise to the experiences Western cultures call sadness, anger, fear, and so on. The book explores such compelling questions as how the brain creates emotional experiences, whether the "ingredients" of emotions also give rise to other mental states, and how to define what is or is not an emotion. Introductory and concluding chapters by the editors identify key themes and controversies and compare psychological construction to other theories of emotion.

Download or read book Analysis of Speech of People with Parkinson s Disease written by Juan Rafael Orozco-Arroyave and published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH. This book was released on 2016-11-11 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The analysis of speech of people with Parkinson's disease is an interesting and highly relevant topic that has attracted the research community during several years. The advances in digital signal processing and pattern recognition have motivated the research community to work on the development of computational tools to perform automatic analysis of speech. Most of the contributions on this topic are focused on sustained phonation of vowels and only consider recordings of one language. This thesis addresses two problems considering recordings of sustained phonations of vowels and continuous speech signals: (1) the automatic classification of Parkinson's patients vs. healthy speakers, and (2) the prediction of the neurological state of the patients according to the motor section of the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS). Recordings of three languages are considered: Spanish, German, and Czech. German and Czech data were provided by other researchers, and Spanish data were recorded in Medellin, Colombia, during the development of this work. Besides the classical approaches to assess pathological speech, a new method to model articulation deficits of Parkinson's patients is proposed. This new articulation modeling approach shows to be more accurate and robust than others to discriminate between Parkinson's patients and healthy speakers in the three considered languages.

Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of Affective Computing written by Rafael A. Calvo and published by Oxford Library of Psychology. This book was released on 2015 with total page 625 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Oxford Handbook of Affective Computing is a definitive reference in the burgeoning field of affective computing (AC), a multidisciplinary field encompassing computer science, engineering, psychology, education, neuroscience, and other disciplines. AC research explores how affective factors influence interactions between humans and technology, how affect sensing and affect generation techniques can inform our understanding of human affect, and on the design, implementation, and evaluation of systems involving affect at their core. The volume features 41 chapters and is divided into five sections: history and theory, detection, generation, methodologies, and applications. Section 1 begins with the making of AC and a historical review of the science of emotion. The following chapters discuss the theoretical underpinnings of AC from an interdisciplinary viewpoint. Section 2 examines affect detection or recognition, a commonly investigated area. Section 3 focuses on aspects of affect generation, including the synthesis of emotion and its expression via facial features, speech, postures, and gestures. Cultural issues are also discussed. Section 4 focuses on methodological issues in AC research, including data collection techniques, multimodal affect databases, formats for the representation of emotion, crowdsourcing techniques, machine learning approaches, affect elicitation techniques, useful AC tools, and ethical issues. Finally, Section 5 highlights applications of AC in such domains as formal and informal learning, games, robotics, virtual reality, autism research, health care, cyberpsychology, music, deception, reflective writing, and cyberpsychology. This compendium will prove suitable for use as a textbook and serve as a valuable resource for everyone with an interest in AC."--
