Book excerpt: La thèse présente une démarche originale et innovante de conception de produit qui prend en compte la complexité du processus de conception et propose des méthodes pour la gérer. Elle comprend deux aspects novateurs majeurs qui sont : la construction de représentations communes pertinentes du groupe de conception et du produit afin de favoriser la synergie du groupe. Cela est réalisé grâce à une étude du groupe de conception sous forme de système et à l'utilisation de la méthode pat-miroir (peurs, attraits, tentations en miroir), l'intégration du futur utilisateur très en amont du processus de conception. L'implication des utilisateurs depuis l'élaboration du cahier des charges jusqu'a l'étude de leurs interactions en situation réelle avec le prototype permet aux concepteurs de mieux comprendre leur activité réelle, de prendre en compte leurs remarques et leurs suggestions. Cette démarche a été appliquée avec succès à la conception d'un prototype d'un système d'aide à la gestion de la trajectoire d'une automobile informant le conducteur via des messages tactiles dans le volant. Les essais réalisés avec le prototype ont montré la pertinence de son action pour la population testée qui a pu apprécier son aide efficace dans diverses situations de conduite. Ce nouveau type d'assistance coopérative et active semble, d'un point de vue fonctionnel, apporter un supplément de sécurité et d'agrément de conduite en permettant de réduire les sorties de voie involontaires.
